The enter key being the most abused of all keys, you could even tell by the state of the enter key who had been using it, with admin staff keyboards looking roughly the same but the cashier keyboard had the enter and function keys looking worn down (often super shiny too)
Alphanumeric were used but usually very rarely, mostly when we need to type in a description of an item if their item code/barcode was missing or too badly damaged to read.

As a former retail saleman, I saw this and I REALLY liked it. Once you got the musclememory of the itemnumbers in store, I could use the touchpad to navigate the different sales sections, have the F keys for point of sales and then slam the enter key like Mad. Even the backspace is in a good place for as numbercentric enviroment. Alphas are rarely used once you forgo items names and go by their numbers.
Then I realized, this setup is only good for me as a leftie.
This setup is just atrocios. But I would buy it ;)

Quite expensive to get uniform keycaps in German, as "rowed" keycaps don't support the layout I am used to. Had DSA Granite prior, which I sold. In retrospect, I don't even know why. Hilarious review! The reason for the odd placement of some keys is that for retail use you would only use the lower half of the keyboard for most of the time.
Keys like Enter and Backspace are also standard on POS keyboards, so they are moved down so that someone working in the checkout would never need to use the upper half of the keyboard and accidentally hit one of the verious small keys that aren't used. In fact, most POS keyboards probably don't have the alphabet so you can type words on them!

It seems that way! I've not found a massive amount of information but it seems like anything from the early 2000s or before was decent, then there was a long period of bad tooling, then 2016-2018 made cherry were decent, and now it's apparently regressed again? Something like that?

@@Glarses Well, it is getting worse and worse each day that passes here in the USA (east coast). I still have my job thankfully, but I am not sure if that will last much longer at this rate. We will see what the future brings us! Thanks for asking. Stay safe!

I try to write main points that I want to say because when I would try with just a few headers I would go off on a tangent and never say what I wanted to say, so there are some jokes and things that I write in, but more often than not I'll leave in improvisation

I like looking at weird keyboard layout like these, and see how they've moved around the keys. The thing is, regardless of what layout they use, they still have to map it to a regular keyboard. For example how they've moved the -_ and =+ keys down to the right side below the letters, shift and return. They are still the same keys as the keys found to the right of 0 on a UK keyboard.
What this keyboard does extra is by adding the "Symbol Shift" key. It changes what key the letter keys are. So by pressing Symbol Shift, the keys N and M becomes the keys ,< and .> respectfully. But they've gone one extra step and made the K and L keys to also become ,< and .> but in a shifted state. This is very unusual. I do wonder what happens if you press Symbol Shift + Shift + N, does that result in < or does it remain as ,? The keyboard incorrectly labels | as ¦, so Z will output | and not ¦. The upper row becomes the numerical keys in shifted state. But there are some keys missing: `¬¦ [{ ]} are keys simply not available. Then there are some key states missing from Symbol Shift: ! on key 1! and ^ on key 6^ and ' on key '@ as well as ~ on key #~ are not on this keyboard. (By 1! 6^ '@ #~ I'm referring to them by the standard UK layout). Finally Alt Gr is missing, forcing you to press Ctrl+Alt to access Á É Í Ó Ú, but due to missing keys, you can't access ¦ €, unless you can press Ctrl+Alt+Symbol Shift+E$ to make €.
There are two blank keys. Right of L is one blank key in the normal state, and right of M is one blank key in both normal and Symbol Shifted state. What do these keys do? Are these the missing keys? Could you tell which symbols these outputs using normal, shifted and Symbol Shifted states? Maybe ' is available here? Because it isn't available from any other key and it is a common English symbol.

need a non-staggered build around a square ENTER now. or otherwise standard but with the enter rows non-staggered?
edit. or just plop that bad boi in dead center of a build and let the rest of the keys figure it out.

Its for commercial use. I worked at amazon before and they had computers with only keypads and keys for their program, that looks like it goes to a cash register and the f keys are for the different options on the screen. But you wont do a lot (if any) typing words, itll mainly be for numbers and those f keys

I love imagining how it would be trying to type with other layouts using weird keyboards like these.
German; due to [{ missing, you'll never be able to type Ü, to type Ö and Ä, you press Symbol Shift and press C for Ö, V for ö, O for Ä and ä is missing. You won't be able to type { } [ ] due to missing Alt Gr + numerical key combination, unless Ctrl+Alt+Symbol Shift works, then Y U I O will give you these symbols. Y and Z will be swapped as expected.
French; due to the AZERTY layout moving M up to the left of L, this will make it awkward to access. Press Symbol Shift and C for M and V for m. Due to the numbers and symbols being swapped around on the number bar, pressing Symbol Shift and Q W E R T Y U I will no longer give symbols, but instead the digits 2 3 4 5 7 8 9 0. Missing 1 and 6.
Other languages will be messy as well. This isn't a good keyboard.
