The super soldier serum in his blood prevented ice crystallization as his body “froze”. He was left in a state of suspended animation. Effectively cryogenically frozen.

But in all seriousness... he brings the same thing that Superman brings... a strong moral compass, an example, compassion and self sacrifice... all of those, things he had BEFORE the super soldier serum. The BIG power of Captain America, just like Superman, is that he is a good person. the enhanced abilities are just cherry on top.

One thing about the romance in this movie that I do really enjoy: if you watch it back, there are lots of subtle little moments suggesting that she genuinely starts getting a crush on him BEFORE he transforms into the super-ripped hunk. Moments where she looks at him with growing respect, admiration, and affection, and they help it feel like the two of them were already connecting as humans before his big change. Sure, the fact that he got super-hot didn't HURT matters, but still...

Cap's greatest power is his morality, he's the leader because he's the best dude there is. A small guy who knows how to use power wisely. He's a super soldier otherwise, never gets tired, runs like 60mph, jump high, heal fast, and about as strong as a silverback gorilla. Like 10 men strong.

The treatment turned Cap and the Red Skull into exemplars of what they previously were. Red Skull embodied inhumanly ruthless intellect, dark authoritarian charisma, and physical prowess. Cap came to embody heroically optimistic idealism, lead-from-the-front charisma, and physical prowess. Cap is rarely the strongest Avenger in the room, but he's usually the best leader and rallying symbol. As for the over-the-top patriotism, the comics often addressed the tension between a character that is the embodiment of America's stated ideals, and the reality of a nation that has very often failed to realize our moral potential. For one example, after Watergate, he quit for a few years, superheroing as a disavowed renegade.

    Cap’s a Super Soldier.
In the comics he was brought to the peak of human perfection. After the serum he could meet every physical human record.
With additional strength and combat training, his speed and strength improve with physical fitness.
The films nudge it a tad in the superhuman realm.
He’s not bulletproof (hence the shield). But he does have an eidetic memory.

Captain America's strength is his determination and the absolute will to do what's right for the sake of what's right. He started out determined to join the military because it wasn't right for other men to go and fight and him stay home safe. So determined that he lied on application after application. Now that he has all this strength, he understands the responsibility that goes with it because he was so weak to begin with. As the movies progress, you will come to appreciate these traits more.

It was mentioned the serum provided protection at the cellular level in the destroyed bar scene where he could not get drunk. The key is ice crystals are initially larger than the liquid water they came from, and tear holes in cells so when the cells thaw out they die; but if the cells can repair themselves fast enough then you should recover. So his enhanced cells responded to freezing as stopping metabolic processes in the form of suspended animation (no aging) where he recovered upon thawing rather than dying.

"Captain America possesses no superpowers, though the Super-Soldier Serum has enhanced his body's strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, reaction time, and natural self-healing ability to the peak of human physical perfection. He is additionally an expert tactician and field commander, and has achieved mastery in a variety of hand-to-hand combat styles" Taken from wiki. But Captain America's greatest superpower is the power of Plot Armor. He was built to exact specifications that when they say he can go one on one against the hulk and survive because of his skill in hand to hand and his shield, you will believe it.

    • @surfersilver6610
      @surfersilver6610 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

The OG shield is almost indestructible so Hulk's not breaking it to get to cap, so that's not plot armor that's FACT.
A 190lb Matador vs a 2,000lb Bull, the Matador will win despite the Bull outweighing him AND also being faster and way more durable.
      IS THAT plot armor?
      Hulk is like a Bull.
Steve Rogers 240lbs, is WAYYYYYYY Greater than a Matador in EVERY aspect and beyond.
His bones are denser than normal humans.
Steve is in the spot between "Super" and "Human" in his abilities and the fact ALL his qualities are enhanced actually MAKE HIM SUPER as few other characters have ALL traits enhanced and in UNISON/BALANCE/SYNERGY like Steve, most characters are just stronger, more durable & maybe 'faster', can fly, shoot beams, when becoming 'super'.
It's not only his skill in H2H that he survives Hulk but more so his reaction speed & reflexes that are above Hulk's, so Hulk can't land a definitive blow, if he does connect Steve is very tough and rolls with punches to lessen the impacts(think drunk drivers surviving crashes vs everyone else dies).
Hulk can out jump Cap, I don't know if he runs faster or the same; 30-60mph.
Steve uses Hulk's rage against him to trip, toss & evade him.
Steve has ACTUAL war experience against armies and many team efforts something few others have.
He trains more than any other character who isn't a martial artist.
He STUDIES ALL CHARACTERS friend and foes and their histories.
He's a MASTER TACTICIAN, partly because of his studies.
He learns on the fly and can change tactics at will.
He's way more than plot armor and if you see how he gets out of battles you'll see CONSISTENCY in that 'plot armor' that his ABILITIES and calculating allows him victory or to survive a massively over powered foe: Matador v Bull.
Note he doesn't walk away squeaky clean, he takes damage a lot, unlike other 'plot armor' stories.
I will say that out of all the crazy stories Steve's been in, Steve 'defeating' Hulk is the one I'm not keen on, unless he used gas or some other aspect than brute strength impacts considering all Hulk has survived.
Steve surviving Hulk yes! Defeating him without some crazy assist, no!
      Some writers go overboard, 😆

    • @surfersilver6610
      @surfersilver6610 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have to add that, like Hulk who gets stronger as he gets angrier, Steve also has this trait in HIS WILL POWER which increases his strength (not to Hulk levels obviously), stamina, tactical processing etc. and explains why he's survived and defeated many foes.
It's not written down but it's easy to see it in ACTUAL INK, not just lip service.
Dealing with Nightmare, Mephisto, Satan himself, Beyonder, Cosmic powered Red Skull, Korvac and many other nigh leveled opponents you see his will power allowed him to even exist in those scenarios and it's been mentioned by some of those.
Tony Stark said it in the Civil War comic that STEVE was THE MOST DANGEROUS of ALL the characters in Marvel, to the Registration Act and their side.

The super soldier program that created the hulk is derived from the program that created red skull and Cpt. America. It just took decades with varrying results across multiple projects along the journey. He is not bullet proof. He is basically super human. Faster and stronger in every way. Together with his good heart and miltary training and experince in leadership he is a cornerstone of the avengers. Add that shield of his and you have a man capable of amazing things.
The how is that when he crashed he was frozen and because of his physiology he survived being frozen and thawed back out. He has better durability, enhanced senses, greater agility and reflexes, superior stamina and an accelerated healing factor though nothing like wolverine or the hulk for that matter. The last of those is likey the cuprit to surviving the freezing process.

By the time of Captain America's release, there was only Steve, with the Hulk and Abomination being bastardized versions of the program. Now, in 2024, there are some four or five different programs from the 1940s onwards, each one more or less succesful. One of them almost 100% succesful.

The comment at 24:00 about changing language classes wasn't talking about the girls in the countries, he was talking about the girls in his school classes. The original super soldier serum increases the human body to the peak to human physical perfection. It does not technically make him super-human, but he seems that way when compared to us normal people. The range of peak human varies by the comic run's interpretation, but he is always the peak human. Normal humans range from 3-5 out of 10 in most attributes and Cap rolls them all up to 10. Meta-Humans, mutants, aliens are all on different scales, so he does fall behind when compared to some of them physically. Normally he keeps up mentally pretty well though. After crashing into the water, the cold "froze" him. His body slowed to a crazy low metabolic rate, think natural cryogenics. Then Shield found him and returned him from his hibernation after that 70 year period.

    • @neospock5034

Yes the original comic book serum elevated physical attributes to peak human levels. However the MCU serum is based upon the Ultimate (1610) rather than mainstream (616) universe comics. So in the MCU, Steve Rogers gained legit superhuman levels of strength, speed, agility etc. Cap is about 8-10 times stronger in the MCU than in the 616 comics.

Cap is definitely a superhero. He performs feats other humans simply cannot do. For example how he gets the shield to bounce around is he's able to almost instantly calculate the angles and speed he has to throw it to make it do that. He's not technically superhuman like the Hulk for example but all his physical and mental attributes are boosted to absolute peak human levels. For example he'd be able to run as fast as Usain Bolt if not slightly faster, but for far longer, he's stronger than the best bodybuilders, endurance, intelligence and everything got boosted. But his main "power" was something you picked up on, is that the dude just doesn't give up and no matter how much he's beaten down he'll get back up until he physically can't. And he was like that before the serum, the serum just gives him more capacity to take or give a beating.

Further, he uses his augmentations to find weaknesses and vulnerabilities in others, often (though certainly not always) allowing him to overcome stronger and faster opponents when necessary. Cap is also, importantly, a master tactician and field commander, and easily among the greatest hand-to-hand combatants in the Marvel Universe. He has far more experience with large-scale combat as well, and though the movie doesn’t explain it, was trained by the very best in battle strategies, combat tactics, etc. His shield is made of a (fictional, obviously) nearly indestructible metal alloy that also absorbs and redirects kinetic energy, meaning it can repel the impact of even the largest caliber ammunition and even small explosives without transferring ballistic force to Cap’s body. It’s also flexible enough to be ricocheted off objects when thrown.
Even more important than his physicality and training, Cap has a tremendous force of will, and an ethical core, that drive him far beyond normal limits. He is nearly indefatigable, and would fight to his last breath for something he believes in. He’s the embodiment of aspirational America, what it should be, what the Declaration of Independence calls on us to strive towards becoming. Above all, he’s a good man, and leads by example, not by force, intimidation, fear, or coercion. He’s forgiving, compassionate, just, and nearly always unwavering in his integrity.
He is also supposed to have an excellent singing voice, but that’s probably speculative.

The serum enhances everything inside, body, mind, "morals"..., everything... thats why Erskine chose Steve Rogers.... as he said... " Good becomes great, bad becomes worse." Asgardians, like Thor, through technology and "magic" are also peak human , hence why Thor can be almost human when Odin takes that away...
Any significant leap in technology will be seen by those who dont understand as magic.... paraphrased from.... I believe.. Arthur C Clark....Captain America's powers are the extent of what a human can be.

Asgardians are way above peak human. Cap can take on pretty much any human being. But against someone like Thor he would get his butt handed to him.

Superhero don't have to be superhuman a example of this is Tony Stark. Tony is normal a human but because of his Iron Man armor he's considered a superhero. Captain America skin is more durable than normal humans with a healing ability added on top that but he's not bulletproof. Captain America Super strength come with a cost because Steve has to constantly work out if he doesn't he will lose his super strength. Due to that fact Steve Rogers gets stronger in every appearance and his current strength level is around 6 to 9 tons.

You're right on the CGI comment. They used CGI to put Chris Evans' face on the real body of a smaller male actor. As for him surviving the freeze, the super serum gave Captain America enhanced healing abilities. So, I'm assuming those healing factors were healing his body's cells in real time just enough to fight off the damage from being frozen alive while he ended up in some kind of stasis. It would be similar to how people think cryogenics might theoretically work in the future to keep people alive in long-term storage.

Hitler’s weapons programmes were fantastic. That’s not a compliment. His fantasies of superweapons diverted resources away from the production of practical weapons and contributed to his downfall. He liked tanks, and if tanks are good then what could be better than a supertank? So the Maus was built. Weighing around 200 tons, if I remember right, it was too heavy for most road bridges and sank into soft ground. But Hitler thought it was wonderful and wanted an even bigger tank. Fortunately there are many more examples of wasted effort and resources. The Hydra weapons in Captain America are the kind of things Hitler must have fantasised about.

He's superhuman, but not supernaturally so. People are saying that the serum boosted him to the absolute limit of human potential, but I think it boosted him past that, but still within the realm of Earthly animal potential. Like, his power and speed seems unrealistic if you compare him to other humans, but if you compare him to cats or chimps, it starts to feel more believable. He's super human, but so is basically every animal on the planet. So it's outside of the realm of human possibilities, but well within the realm of Earthly possibilities.

The interesting thing with Cap is that being peak of *everything* adds up to impossibilities. Faster than Usain Bolt is one thing, but also being able to do it for hours makes it super him. Being the world's strongest man *or* a Simone Biles level gymnast is cool, but both at once is incredible.

In the comics Captain America is normally portrayed as being at the peak of human ability like above an Olympic decathlon contestant. However, this movie is really inspired by the Ultimate imprint version of Captain America.
In this incarnation Steve's normal human abilities have been ramped up to a superhuman level. He is far stronger, faster and durable than a normal human. Also Steve natural cognitive and analytical abilities have been enhanced as well. He literally thinks faster than normal people.

I loved “Iron Man” but this movie is what really hooked me on the MCU. Chris Evans embodies the character so well. This movie will stand the test of time. I’ve seen it probably 50 times and every time it hits. This is what really pushed the MCU forward. Great film, great reaction.
Edit: So Captain America is the Hulk basically. They were both the same experiments but Steve Rogers was successful and Bruce Banners was not and had unforeseen side effects. Bruce however is bullet proof. Captain America is not. Steve has an increased metabolism, increased speed, agility, strength, reflexes. His moral compass and his ability to lead and do the right thing is his best attribute. I saw a comment saying he could lift up to 1200 pounds but that’s not entirely correct. His strength is far greater.

The secrets of the Super soldier serium died with its creator it has been replicated many times but never been able to produce a captain America equal, many different serums have been created more powerful but those often grant super natural powers, so Steve Rodgers isn't really known what he can do he's not bullet proof his skin is just tough, 70 years in the ice might have changed the serum into something god like

Stark's power is his genius mind. He also adapts and finds solutions to past failures and new problems quickly, which is crucial. Hulk has no training whatsoever, so his fight style is just brute force. However, Banner is probably as smart at Stark. I am told that in the comics Thor has the ability to understand and use any language he encounters. Not every hero is equal, which is good.

47:19 "Captain America is Captain America because of the Tesseract". No, the Tesseract had nothing to do with creating Cap or his powers. He got his powers from the Super Soldier Serum created by Dr. Erskine. Erskine never saw the tesseract in his life and Stark didn't get it until after Steve crashed into the ice near the end of the film.
