"Why are we going to black and white?!?!"
Because keeping it in color would have made the movie as a whole too bloody for an R rating and bumped it to NC-17. The director's cut keeps the whole fight in color.

I had the opportunity to make a kogatana, a small traditional utility blade made of tamahagane compounded with shirogane. My good friend is one of 50 or so active licensed sword smiths in Japan. He usually takes longer than a month to finish a blade and a full size katana or tachi made of folded Tamahagane can run 15-25 thousand usd. The sand used to create the high carbon steel is very regulated as a cultural treasure. The blades can be many times that amount if it is made by a famous master craftsman.
I live in Japan. Any blade over 21cm is considered a regulated weapon and falls under the firearms and knives act. Just owning one has to be registered if it is a real functioning blade. You cannot walk around with a Katana unless it is stored properly for transportation and you have the paperwork.

3:55, its been said that all Quentin Tarantino movies take place in the same universe. This is shown by Vincent Vega (from Pulp Fiction) being brother to a character from Reservoir Dogs. Also the brand Red Apple cigarettes are in all of his movies.
In this common universe, the Kill Bill movies are a martial arts fantasy film series playing at the local theatres. So when you see magical and plain impossible things happen it’s because this is a movie playing within a movie universe. The Bride’s impossible feats are also because of the magical nature of one of her instructors. He and Bill were masters of death and trained her to become the right hand of death.

    • @robling1937
      @robling1937 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Another theory is that some films take place in the same universe (Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction or Django Unchanged/Hateful Eight), then some of the more campy films (Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, ect.) are films from within that universe. Sort of like the fan theory that the Schumacher films are Batman movies from within the Batman universe.

Certain movie scènes require you to be quiet in order to *fully* experience a certain emotion (crying, being outraged, shocked etc) that the movie director wanted you to feel.
For example let's say you have a favorite scène from a movie and you are watching a reactionvideo to see how reactors gonna respond to your favorite scène but the moment when your favorite scène gets displayed, you notice that the reactor is distracted because he or she is too busy talking with his audience and looking to the camera and therefore fails to focus on the movie at that *particular* moment, are you not going to be frustrated?

From what I remember you can't carry a bladed weapon more then two inches long in Japan. You can't even bring in a bladed weapon into Japan with the exception of a sword, but you need a hard to get permit. Though my friends dad had a custom katana made using the old fashioned methods. Cost him almost 35k in the 90s. He had to fly to Japan once it was done to retrieve it. There are very few that still make the swords the old fashioned way. Thus they are way better quality.

As far as the story, Uma and Quinton were working on a little project known as Pulp Fiction and they came up with this script. I want a katana, Ohh I am allowed to carry one on the streets, and you also looked up the price.
So apperently Quintin and Uma, was bonding while they filmed pulp fiction over their love of old westerns and kung fu movies. They sat many dinners and talked about it and this is the story that they got out of it all. It ended up being two movies as the studio said it was to long, I think Quintin then added even more to it to fill out two movies instead of just one, and I also think the extra violence in the anime and black and white was a way to get it past censorship. A lot of the things quintin have in his movies are a homage to older things actually.

It's a weapon that never runs out of ammo, needs reloading, or makes much noise. Just don't get a katana... it's overhyped, get a Jian/Gim 700$ ish is the pricepoint at which it's likely to be good. Make sure the grip is not round, that it's a more modern flattened design, for easy edge alignment on just holding it, make sure it's folded, high carbon, with not highly visible "watermarks" it means they didn't mix "random metals together for the look", needles to say it needs to be full tang, make sure it comes apart easy and comes together easy, that way you can clean ALL the parts and tighten the blade, make sure it has a decent pomel, and definitely make sure it has as good a "cross guard" as a Jian can have...

There was an actress back in the 60's/70's named Sandy Duncan who had a glass eye. Don't remember the story about how she lost her eye but obviously she decided to forego the patch as well.
    Tarantino has a foot fetish.
Assassin or spy + secret stashes of cash & ID's go hand in hand in movies.
The sound and music when she sees red is from the old tv show Ironside. I think the other one you mentioned is from another old cop or P.I. show.
The sound effects and over the top fight moves are because this is an homage of sorts to old martial arts movies. The b&w was to get the blood and gore past the ratings system. 😂
This whole thing is the brainchild of Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman. It was originally 1 movie but it was so long they wanted Tarantino to cut down the runtime. Instead of losing parts of the story they decided to make it 2 volumes instead.

Sandy Duncan never had a glass eye. When she was 24 she had a brain tumor and was having problems with her optic nerve in one of her eyes. The surgeon tried to fix it and ended up severing it, which means she was blind in that eye. Since that day, she’s been operating with just one eye, which makes it challenging for her depth perception, but that eyeball in the socket is her real eye. No prosthetic. 😉

@@jacquelinerodriguez270 ah. Ok. Must have just been a tabloid rumor then. I was a kid at the time so my memory is a bit patchy on things like that. I read a lot but I wasn't exactly reading magazines or tabloids. Lol.
All I remembered was that the one eye didn't seem to move.

35:20 I’m super curious why chromatic aberration is considered a camera error - this is a comment I’ve seen made on the Inglourious Bastards reaction as well. Robert Richardson was already an Academy Award winning DP by the time he shot Kill Bill, I can assure you the look of that shot was not an error.

I absolutely love this movie and the part 2 of it as well but one thing has always bugged me about this one. Kiddo scalps Ishii in one slice removing the top of her skull cleanly but the brain is completely untouched? How did your blade cut only deep enough to penetrate the skull and not the brain and also go all the way around the head again not harming the brain at all? Major flaw there.

24:11 i think he has a shot of someone's feet in every movie. Quinton Tarantino has a foot fetish. He wrote into a scene in a movie(From Dusk Til Dawn) where a character drinks a shot of alcohol from a ladies foot, and then he cast himself as the character! So he got to put Salma Hayak's foot in his mouth lol.
