Its nice they let you keep your bikes in the room

Yeah I find it's a bit hit or miss here in Japan with if they will let you. Though I find if you ca speak some Japanese it goes a long way in getting them to let you as you can discuss what is "reasonable".

I rode up to Kusatsu onsen last year too, and remember that Lawson too. We took the main road up but was dark by then and I ended up walking my bike uphill for a few kilometres and arrived at my hotel last in the group at 10pm!! You guys made it look easy.

Oh gosh never fun to walk a bike up a dark hill at night 😔
Where did you start from? Go over Haruna too?
It was certainly far from easy. That backpack probably had 7kg in it and by the time we started the final climb up to Kusatsu I was almost thinking of just ditching it on the side of the road my shoulders we so sore 😆

@@RindoRob We started from Ogose in Saitama, lunch in Takasaki then headed out from there. Made the mistake of ending up in a construction dead end before heading back up hill through that long tunnel and across the bridge you showed.

Oh wow that's a pretty long day for sure. So you went all the way up to the lake at Haruna then?

Oh man that's a pretty nuts 3 days of riding!
Well you'll have to try one of the other routes to Kusatsu another time 😊

Cool video Rob. Would love to be back cycling in Japan. Some day... assume you are using a drone. Can you share make, model etc. Might be my next project!

Thanks Tony, yes with any luck things will turn around in the not to distant future for international travel!
As for the drone, this is a Mavic Air (original). It's pretty good but I think the new ones have some better software and way better battery life so I would go with that if you are just getting started.

What's the situation with bikes in the central Yubatake area? You'll notice there is a conspicuous absence of them, ridden or parked. The 7-11 signs say don't park bicycles or motorbikes there and I was reprimanded for simply walking my bike along the road on that side, which you rode down at 5:15. Also, there's some excellent live cameras of the town and surrounds here:

There is no rule saying you can't ride a bike there that I've seen/heard of. Certainly have seen other cyclists there before many times in the past as well. But it's also good to not cause traffic jams & definitely not park bikes where signs say not to.
