I can't believe how underrated Mike Einziger is. I have been a huge Incubus fan since their early days and since I play a little guitar, I have always been amazed by Mike's talent and creativity. When I first heard this song, I liked the guitar right away and when I read that it was Mike who had wrote it, it just made sense. This guy is one of the greatest guitarist of our generation. Simple yet great, and he plays so joyfully.

@@marinaquinones5130 Sick Sad Little World is one of my favorite Incubus songs. Pretty much all of A Crow Left of the Murder is great song after great song, but Sick Sad is probably my favorite, and that guitar solo is just on a whole different level. Have you ever seen their Live at Red Rocks performance? I highly recommend it.
Same! Been listening to incubus since probably with SCIENCE in 2000 before morning view came out. He’s been a massive influence in my guitar playing since then!
As a muscian myself, I think Aloe and Mike deserve just as much credit for the song as Avicii

Besides the lyrics is straight Avicii - I don't care what anyone says it was about his life. He always talked about hoping to "find himself", feeling like he is in a daze (wake me up), hoping to stay young, which was an Avicii theme, he traveled the world when he had the chance (after retirement) and then there's the little detail about "being lost"-yeah he knew he was...

Black has confirmed this himself that he was brought on to come up with the lyrics.
Mike has written some of my favorite guitar riffs of all time... and THIS is the one that gets all the attention? I mean it's a catchy riff but he's made even more amazing ones with Incubus

Two great musicians
I don't have anything against Avicii. I do however get annoyed by his fans that state this is "his song". This was a collaboration. Mike Einziger wrote most of the chord progression with input from Avicii and Aloe Blacc wrote and sang the lyrics. Avicii took that and essentially made a remix of it with his music. Now it wouldn't have came to be without Avicii, but everyone needs to give credit where credit is due.

"Writing" a song does not mean specifically writing the lyrics, it is synonymous with composing the song. Mike and Avicii wrote/composed the song in a matter of minutes in their very first session together. Aloe Blacc presumably wrote the lyrics.

It’s often said that once you strip back all the layers of production and instrumentation a truly great song will still shine when played bare-bones and acoustic. If this isn’t enough proof that that is true then I don’t know what is. I’m not even an Avicii fan but this song is truly brilliant. Rest easy

Hi, hope everyone is doing well. Im going to tell you the history with this song.
My cousin some years ago introduced me to avicii and all electronic music of the time like swedish hpuse mafia, alesso, etc. I just feel in love with this music at the first moment. He made a tatto of avicii in his chest years ago. So for me my cousin was the person that introduce me to all this music and the music i love nowadays (and more things like games) He was like a big brother for me.
Today my family and i have buried my cousin of 27 year old of selfkill. I just put this song, wake me up, and this cover version, in the moment he was being cremated. i will remeber this song to the last day of my life. Thank you for all the memories you have made avicii, and you my dear cousin. Hope you two enjoy singing and dancing your new released in heaven.
