I'm not very good at modelling because I'm an animator, but I'm trying to get better. You are precise, quick but not too quick AND you dont drone on for minutes at a time! You're really good at teaching! I'll be subscribing! :D
If anyone has access to Zbrush I would highly recommend simply using booleans to your hearts content and Dynamesh in Zbrush. If your looking to do traditional high poly work baked into low poly methods then this is a great way to create both models fast and easily. There really needs to be more vids or tutorials on this considering its the industry norm for most triple AAA games assets atm. The largest titles out there mostly use this- although they also use fusion.
When I click the add cylinder object it just adds a presized cylinder. It doesnt allow me to draw it on the screen interactively? Do you know why this is behaving this way?
You’ll want to use interactive creation knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Maya/files/GUID-97A48BAD-DE69-423A-9B96-313F5494E5DC-htm.html
At 5:56 you said to "hit V on the keyboard and just snap it to that vertex" to align the extruded edge, but I've never been able to do it that way. In my experience, I have to select the component(s), set the pivot to one corner vertex (insert > V > drag to corner vertex), and then press V and drag the selected component(s) to the vertex of whatever area I want to align with my selection. How were you able to shorten the process to just selecting that edge, pressing V, and hovering on a vertex to snap? I tried doing it in Maya just now and mine won't work unless I set the pivot to a corner vertex first.
you know.. idk why people love maya so much.. he's clearly taking too much time for a really simple shape. i know he's explaining but. too much of a struggle.. i would done this exact shape in blender .. like in two or three clicks.. there's bunch of Blender haters but i don't get it. which is easier.. "go to menu.. croll down to boolians.. then boolian cut" after that delete some edges manually... or in BLender *Shift+"-"* ... and that's it. idk which one is easier for you.. ?
Solid video with good info, the only thing I would mention is the speed at which you speak. It is easily understandable, however, the pace of speech just seems hurried, which takes away from an otherwise great tutorial.
@@JoshAntonio I checked out some of your more current videos and have subscribed! You've continued with great informative tutorials and your vocal instructions are very clean and punctual now.
I LOVE you adding the hotkey at the bottom while you use it. Non intrusive for people who already know it, but super helpful to those who don't!
More of these little mini modelling tutorials for small hard surface parts would be great!
Okay, sure thing 🙂
sometimes i forget ‘bout these cleanup topology and mirroring objects.. thx josh for making it like a drill exercise!
Nice clean little project. Well paced and presented. Thanks for the effort.
Glad you found it helpful 🙂

Maya is a “miracle”!!! You follow the actions, but at some point get a different result
to make a task like this allot easier id recommend trying the hardmesh plugin
Solid quick video !! Thanks a lot for this !!

You have to middle-mouse-button hover over the vertex to snap. That should do it for you :)
@@JoshAntonio Thank you so much. You just saved me several seconds, which really stack up when I have to do it over and over.
tnks
Hi josh! I cnat use xray tool even i attached a hotkey. But if i Clicl Alt+x im going to walk tool.
Mmm strange, did you definitely override the hotkey?
My boo leans creates extra divisions I don’t know why

But at 7:14 doesn’t the object you scaled to -1 have reversed normals?

Love this speaking speed. Please don't slow down!
Thank you ..
Hi, guys, it's B or V to snip the vertices
It's V to snap

Yeah I’m sorry my old tutorials are awful! Please give some of my newer ones a watch and see that (hopefully) I’ve improved!

Thanks, glad you liked it. 🙂
Thx for the video. A small observation though, you are speaking way too fast like you are thinking out loud. Might not be ideal. Appreciate the video.
