How are you guys feeling about Elon letting the SuC department go? As mentioned, I think it seems wild now but in a few months it will all work out. Also, don't forget to check out the Fanttik discounts in the description if you're interested :) - as always thanks for considering supporting the channel in this way!
I work for an electrical contractor and we’re involved in
@@willtheelectrician8184I highly doubt they didn't think that through, I'm sure they'll do right by your companies
Personally I’m pretty bummed. Sure hope this doesn’t mean Supercharger network falls by the wayside.
@@willtheelectrician8184They will have to get lawyers involved. Just look at how Twitter screwed over so many of their suppliers and landlords.
I mean they literally cleaned house for everything charging related without any other plans in place. What an absolute mess.
Oof, I'm actually more concerned about him unfollowing Sawyer and Omar. You can justify letting high executives go on a cost cutting measure, but there's no way to hide that burning bridges with two of your top supporters is just petty. I hope that this is just one of his periodic low periods and they're big enough not to hold it against him.
Firing the charging team is a bad move. We're fine in California because the superchargers are so dense here. But the rest of the country? The part with the most addressable market remaining to convert? They don't have nearly enough to make EVs as attractive as hybrids. Tesla showed incredible foresight building out the supercharger network before they even had the sales to justify it. It was a leap of faith that paid off many times over. This is the opposite. Pulling back on superchargers to reflect the "slowdown in EV sales" sounds like a Ford/GM move. That's not Tesla . . . at least, it didn't used to be.
The country - and Continent - is well served by Tesla. Here in rural Nova Scotia, 200 km from Halifax, Superchargers are available and rarely used.
@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneckthat may be the case now. Start to add more 45 minute Mach Es and Chevy bolts and it could change. Even if sales are slightly down, there will be way more EVs eligible to use the network very soon.
Even in California, there are not enough superchargers. Firing the entire supercharging team is a horrible knee-jerk reaction to the sales. Just imagine what the FSD team is thinking now. Elon is hurting the Tesla brand not only in terms of product sales but also of talent acquisition and preservation.
Also - while normal in sociopathic USA work environment - firing whole team out of nowhere will tarnish Tesla in the eyes of the European employees even in a situation, that this can't be done to them - Tesla is moving towards "zero trust", which is both costly and ineffective…
This supercharging information is a severe punch in the gut. Here in SW Florida where there are many EVs, DC fast charging is horrible. I’ve promoted a SuC for 2 years with Tesla and now all that work is down the drain and we are unlikely to get one in Bonita Springs. Dejected 😩
Superchargers is why I have a tesla vs lighting. It makes the fact that you can never actually get 300miles of range on a road trip easier to stomach. Cutting doesn’t make sense, seems to give credibility to EVs being in a bad spot in general.
I had the same experience as Chuck. My 3 was backing into a spot, stopped, and as it slowly moved forward to improve its angle a driver passed in front of me. I had to quickly hit the brakes because it seemed my car was not going to stop. Be careful with autopark folks.
Thanks for all.
Just finished approx 3500 mile road trip on Fsd. From Portland OR through ID,UT,NV,AZ Los Angeles north back to OR. 98 % on Fsd. Unfamiliar destinations entered off freeways and the car just took us there. Over 70 and would not have taken this 12 day trip without having Fsd 12.3.4 . Averaged 400 to 500 miles on driving days. Owned other EVs , traveling in. Tesla was a joy by comparison. Thanks for all your great videos.
my pleasure! thanks for sharing this, glad to hear you had a good experience!

An independent installations contractor says he was sad for those let go, & how, but understood that he & his peers would continue to be paid & supplied, PLUS new contractors and site owners, such as Walmart & "transitioning" BP, etc., gas stations, were already being scheduled for taking over from the old team's expansion projects. Also, that the "pudding proof" of the new deployment process would sooner than later suffice as "explanation" much better than Tesla attempting to convince the already doubting public of the veracity of their new approach.
Tesla laid off entire super charging staff.
This is a company in serious trouble.
All auto manufactures are in trouble. This is the tip of the ICEberg.
@@EwanM11 Tesla would fair the weather if Elon wasn't such a fascist.
@@EwanM11Toyota is doing well. Only EV companies are doing bad because Tesla has dropped the value of an EV by a lot.

As a shareholder, this SuC move is unsettling to me. It doesn’t really impact my confidence, but it seems a really strange move.
It may not be a massive profit centre, but it’s certainly important for the global transition to EVs. It gives confidence to potential buyers that they can charge - especially if they buy Tesla cars.
Oh well…. Keep the faith, I suppose!

It’s shocking to see how Elon has neglected Tesla since 2021 and then came back to destroy a once-extremely-promising company with one bad decision after another. A main reason that Tesla’s demand has been dropping is because it is getting harder to find an available and affordable supercharger. Another reason is that Elon has drastically dropped the EV price to boost demand instead of pursuing other means such as advertising and Tesla App Store. People are afraid of buying an expensive item and find it 10% cheaper to buy in 3 months.
Slowing Supercharger buildout is nothing short of insane.
What makes you think they are slowing supercharger roll-out?
@@NaughtyGoatFarm It's literally in Elon's tweet
Why? Do you have internal company data to proof that? Maybe utilization is low on new locations making it a low effeciency capex. Especially with legay manufacturers slowing down, not using the stations. Better to improve current busy stations

He'll then come back as Optimus.
Whatever happened to the 7 billion dollars the Biden administration invested in new chargers?
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Biden signed in November 2021, included $7.5 billion for EV charging. Of that, $5 billion was allocated to individual states in so-called “formula funding” to build a network of fast chargers along major highways in the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, or NEVI, program.
But after two years, that program has only delivered seven open charging stations with a total of 38 spots where drivers can charge their vehicles, according to a spokesperson for the Federal Highway Administration. (The funding should be enough to build up to 20,000 charging spots or around 5,000 stations, according to analysis from the EV policy analyst group Atlas Public Policy.)
Government at work.
"ALLOCATED"
not "PAID"
.
Maybe the government should approach other companies and suggest they find a way to build chargers at similar price, (in other words "providing good value for public funds"?) then roll out the network while providing apparently much needed cash to those companies?
.
It's "a bit rich" to expect one company to roll out a network while others are "pulling back"?
@@rogerstarkey5390 Exactly, Tesla is making the right business call. If you need Superchargers in your area, contact your state rrp and ask them how they spent the money they were allocated for charging infrastructure.
when they say 7 billion, they mean 700.000 and the rest goes to whatever warzone is open right now ;)
7 billion was the bill...not for just chargers. All the hidden costs and diverting of that is nowhere to be found. People actually think these bills and $$$ allocations is for the benefit of its people. Since when in history has the government or politicians come through with what they say. I guess the scam can continue since there's enough people that still believe the scammers. 🤣🤣🤣
You should make a Tee shirt that says “Not bad for, just a car company”. It’s your signature phrase 😅
With all this firing he should include that 'Senior' manager who has been moonlighting for the last couple years while the company deteriorated!
I live in rock springs wyoming. There are 8 T chargers right near my house. That usually have at least three or four cars there at all times. Electrify america has a charging station across the street and I have never seen a vehicle there.
It probably doesn't work.
@@billweberx It took them nine months at least to complete building it. It's definitely not making any money
Who did Elon see in China the day before letting Rebecca and her staff go? Coincidence? Elon seems to downgrade interpersonal relationships with executives at other car companies concerning NACS. Very sad…I hope additional clarity is given to the public since it is the people that buy the cars who care about the charging network!
Thanks for digging deep on all of this!
The supercharger network is one of the benefits I tout to people when recommending Teslas over other EV brands. I hope that news of these layoffs doesn’t dampen sales ever further as folks on the fence are put off by worries over charging.
The network is still there and will continue to grow, a little slower.
@@billweberxHow’s it going to grow when Elon fired everyone below the manager of the Supercharger division? This from the man who insists that we don’t need USS or a rain sensor. How has that gone?
People that are worried about charging are so because of media fud, not the actual charging experience. Building more chargers wouldn't help.
@@garymyron6699 They didn't fire everyone that works on SuperChargers, only the logistics group, which will be reformed with new management and staff.
@@billweberx Wrong. There are city/state infrastructure workers who were expanding the network in various cities who no longer have any contacts at Tesla because they're all laid off. They mentioned if there isn't payment incoming to their projects then lawsuits will be firing off from all over the country.
Central USA and mountain West need a lot of coverage outside of the interstates and cities. Most of the plains states have only 1 east west interstate, so you must travel that route in an EV at present.
Mountain vacationing is often staying in one place and doing road trips from there, and it's easy to not pass through anywhere that has Level 3 charging, such as Crested Butte, Lake City, Durango, and Steamboat Springs. Aspen, Telluride, and Breckinridge/Silverthorne are nicely covered, but not a lot else. Additionally, these areas have little/unpredictable Level 2 charging. An EV driver has to plan their trip around their EV if staying outside of the above 3 areas in Colorado.
I'm extremely disappointed that Tesla isn't trying to expand the coverage map of Superchargers as it is probably at around half of the needed locations in the midwest/west.
Make this make sense.☹️ Superchargers are one of Tesla's competitive advantages; Electrify America, ChargePoint, evgo, blink, et al. don't have the chops to build robust EV charging we need☹️

Tesla used to be the most attractive employer for graduates. You might keep fan-boying all day long: I believe you are not an attractive employer when you randomly cut people as if they are numbers. As Walter said in the book Elon's brilliance is in many areas but this total lack of empathy will harm the company. it might not matter for recent graduates but for executive-level people I can see a future where people will not be interested in taking the risk of being cut like this just because Elon feels like it.
Exactly. Elon is an asshole.
Every multi billion dollar company cuts people as if they are numbers. Tesla doesn't exclude executives from this. Ultimately Tesla still getting the most talented applicants who actually get more opportunity if hired to move up to executive because not entrenched. Who wouldn't want to work 10 years and be a multimillionaire, get cut because company priorities changed, all while having the best mark on your resume to get hired from another company in your field at the highest level.
Elon attracts talent because of culture he creates there are pros and cons to style but attracting talent is in the bag 100%
Last time he fired so many at one of his companies, it was with starlink. He was told there's no way they could have a starling network around the globe till atleast 5 years. He fired them and the new team had a network of 6000 in place within 2 years. Work is not your day care. It is not your family. It is there to produce and you are paid, in full, for any trouble you may have. People with your mentality are precisely why the world is leaving EU and somewhat the US behind.
@@jdawg5960 Elon has gone off the rails. Elon used to attract talent. Maybe not so much any more. I used to be one of his biggest fanbois but no longer. If I was still in the job market I now would think thrice about working for him. To be treated like shit after 10 years of outstanding performance is not an attractive employment idea. Long time employees and top executives who have given their all for years to Elon's cause deserve at least a bit of warning and certainly more than a overnight email that you are fired immediately on a whim. Notice that Bahadue's post thanked and appreciated a host of his colleagues but glaringly excluded Musk. Elon seems to be becoming more like Trump every day in his treatment of people.
Tesla was not in dire straits. In fact it was quite healthy although that may no longer be true now. I would not be surprised if there is a mass exodus of executives in the near future wanting to get out while the getting is good.
Elon needs to look in the mirror and accept responsibility for a mojor portion of Tesla's slowdown as well as his hypocrisy. His stated mission was to accelerate the transition to renewables which is just what opening up the supercharger network did. Firing the entire department is the antithesis that goal.
His emotion-based business acumen isn't doing him any favors, from his commitment to a child's drawing of a truck, to the overpriced impulse buy of Twitter.
Charger builds in OZ needs to be at fulcharge not slowed. But I can see the US has a lot of charging locations. EV's are selling well here! Firing everyone is might not be the best thing to do as there would have been good workers amongst them. I'm not sure it should be a Elon call where is the board?
Has Elon been possessed by the ghost of Jack Welsh? Does Elon want to turn Tesla into the next GE or Boeing? A year ago I would have wanted to work for Tesla if I ever had the opportunity, but Elon’s drama unchecked by the board has changed my mind. I fear he’s taking the company in the wrong direction with these drastic cuts.
Tesla has made these kinds of cuts in the past. Just getting rid of deadwood.
Not Jack Welsh. That lazy sod never had more than 7 "direct reports." Neutral Jack expanded GE by agglomeration, buying more companies so GE's total revenue SEEMED to increase, then letting acquired companies rot. Post Jack, GE divested mismanaged subdivisions. Old Suzy sure knew how to write a myth.
Unless his targets are absolutely justified by real performance failures in their jobs he will be risking severely lowering of morale in many of the remaining workers. Nothing eats away at morale more than random, serious injustice from leaders against good people who give their all.
Do a great job and get fired.
Elon is getting off on firing people. It's the manifestation of the narcissist. That's why he bought X so that rightwing nutjobs can spread their lies and conspiracy theories unchecked.
Yeah. That's a risk.

Too hardcore? If it makes Tesla a less attractive workplace - less desirable for attracting the best of the best, then yes. If they've let too many great people go, then yes. If it has ultimately made awesome top/senior managers quit, then yes.
This news about the supercharging systems is a major blow to Australia. Australia lacks a suitable charging network particularly intercapital. So we cannot expect anymore. however superchargers are not a profit making system because most people charge at home or work. It has been on my mind as a problem for manufacturers we need a charging network for buyer confidence, but buyers mostly don't need it.
People misrepresent Elons actions often on purpose.
Tesla's charging network is run as if it was a separate business and they have maintained profitability that funds further expansion of the network, the network is to fight range fears for EV newbies and the convenience of travelers.

re: autopark PSA. As of a few weeks ago on the 1st day i had autopark enabled for the first time on my HW4 MY that i got last October. the best part initially was the fact that i didn't know i had autopark and I found myself looking at a busy traffic in city LEFT hand parallel park job. I see it come up on the screen and was so excited. i tried putting it into FSD first (fail) didn't know how to engage and finally just though maybe i touch the parking spot and sure enough it starts going. then it starts the first turn whilst backing up and it just stops. I'm thinking "hmm well i guess i shouldn't have expected a smooth first autopark" but then i see a car has squeezed around me to the right. I was paying attention to the left parallel autopark and the car correctly saw a car passing us on the right and paused until it knew what this car was doing. so opposite of this clip posted here.

Something like #expandsuperchargers, or #heymusksuperchargethesuperchargers.
I have been a follower and fan of Elon's work since 2010 which led me to defend many of his highly questionable decisions over the past 4 years. For those of us following from the beginning it was easy to look at his great early work and give him the benefit of many, many doubts believing that his goals were noble. I can no longer do so. Since the payout of the first huge compensation package his actions appear more ego driven and less (if at all) focused on the mission statement of Tesla. The world needed a mass produced truck at a reasonable price and he took enormous company resources to create a polarizing, impractical, expensive and extremely hard to produce product of his ego. He has now cancelled the affordable EV and vaporized the most successful charging roll out on the planet. As he maneuvers for more ownership of the company and massive compensation packages he cuts costs by eliminating the income of the working class employees and raises the prices to consumers. His actions and leadership no longer represent anything noble or remotely impressive. I anticipate it will become harder and harder for him to convince everyone he's the smartest person in the room as we witness his dissension into the simplest of human failures, greed and ego.
I started following him around 2000 for entertainment purposes when a software guy got interested in space travel. Many Apollo team members had failed on the mission he took on. His early success at Tesla and SpaceX quickly made me a huge fan who promoted him to everyone I knew. For over 15 years when world affairs got me down I would turn to Elon’s latest progress to lift my spirits and give me hope for the future.
I too made excuses when he started doing morally questionable actions. I no longer trust or admire him as a person. He also seems to be joining a long list of tech founders who outlived their usefulness as business matured due primarily to past success going to their heads. The only my opinion matters mindset is a huge roadblock to progress and dealing with problems. I have seen it in managers everywhere I have worked especially right before disastrous decisions. The smartest managers I ever worked for were the opposite as was Elon early on.
My 2024 model Y with a FSD subscription is running V11.3
Does anyone know we will receive V12?
The big cuts in supercharging seems crazy to me. With the opening up of the chargers to all the other brands I would think this would become the most critical area that Tesla needs to concentrate on. There are still large swaths of the United states that are still not served by ANY charging stations. I personally have friends and family in rural Montana and the Dakotas that live nowhere near the interstates, where the only chargers are. If I go to see them, my model S stays home. So it is obvious to me that Tesla has just given up on this whole demographic.
Cutting supercharger network may be a good idea, but the rest of resources should work in places that actually need new supercharger locations. For example, Poland is almost the size of California with almost the same amount of ppl living there, but has only 14 superchargers locations, while California has over 200. Ppl in Poland can afford EVs, but demand is not great because our EV infrastructure is lacking.
Superchargers are profitable, but because new chargers are being installed, bottom line profit is low.
The drop in stock price is the reason we should not be too happy when it starts going up. Need to have more patience.
0:32 inference hardware in cars isn't capex, it's COGS
@electrified You estimated the revenue from the Neoen contract at megapack list prices and came up with a value of over $1B. Isn't this likely to be a huge overestimate. Large contracts like this are usually negotiated at prices considerably below list. This is particularly likely as utility scale batteries are now available from a number of mfgs.
tesla doesnt do discounts like others as far as we know and when they have demand 9+ months out im not sure why they would!
@@DillonLoomis22 We don't know at what prices the demand nine months out was negotiated. For instance both Airbus and Boeing have demand years out and still all the big deals are at discounted prices, according to industry watchers.
Wow game over for Tesla!
Investing $10 B on AI is a lot. And it has to be done now! Cutting cost by a temporary slowdown of investments in a low marging business like the charging network seems to be strategically sound.
If the macros were sound, Tesla might take on debt and do everything, but it isn't.
We just have to accept that Tesla is going fully into AI, or it's not for us!
I'll expect the car business will be kept very cost effective, using the current facilities to the limit for quite a while, until the AI startup investments peter out.
Is there any way to contact IF Metall and tell them to FO?
1:03 I thought there were two inference chips on the HW4 board, no? this would either mean a cost of around $600 each or if $1200 each, then $4.8 billion, leaving $2.2B for "training capacity), no?
We have also not heard anything about Tesla Insurance AND Virtual Power Plant or VPP expansion to other states.
Elon is doing a fantastic job. I like what I hear. Thank you Dillon!
you're very welcome philip!
Wow, significant changes.
So the inference Cap-Ex should also include some Optimus
Inference is COGS not Cap-Ex.
The other reason for reducing the supercharger team may be because oil companies like Shell and BP are going to be deploying Tesla chargers. So maybe at this point the deployment of superchargers will be done by others?
@9:29 The future of *SuperCharging* and *MegaCharging* is _wireless._
Why retain employees whose skillsets are becoming unnecessary?
Installation of new **Chargers* becomes a lot cheaper, faster, and simpler.
I mentioned this on Twitter a couple of days ago, but it seems like no one else is paying attention the proximity of elon's firing of the supercharger team correlating with a visit to China, where it appears as if a Tesla has secured the ability to sell FSD in that country.
Another thing that interestingly happened around the same week is catl was showing off its high density battery technology shinshang. This technology is an lfp-based battery which has a significantly more density than existing lfp packs.
What if Elon saw this battery pack? What if Elon made some sort of preliminary deal with catl so that they could provide this set of batteries to Tesla for inclusion into its battery packs?. What if that means that within the next year we'll be seeing new versions of all of Tesla's existing vehicles with 15‰ to 30% larger battery packs?
Such a shift would perfectly explain the urgency of elon's actions against the supercharger team as well as the depth of the action. Made me think about it. If you knew that your battery packs were going to be 30%, more dense and you can get the proportional increase in mileage on every vehicle, then the existing plans for supercharger expansion would essentially suddenly be Overkill. You would now realize that you have the opportunity to slow down the build out of these expensive sites while at the same time mitigating against the longer distance that some drivers would have to drive before getting a charge by the new batteries.
I think there's a very high probability that within the next 6 months or so, Tesla will reveal some innovation. With regards to its battery tech, they might have something to do with the new catl technology
Well I hope you are right, but Tesla’s graduate desirability ranking for engineers may still take a hit.
I would go work for Vinfast
Decisions on models X and S need to be taken ? Even the cull of the Tesla Semi must be under review. These vehicles are becoming an expensive luxury ?
People buy Teslas in large part because of the Supercharging network. What reason will they have to swing EV buyers to choose to buy a Tesla now, rather than another marque?
Sawyer and Omar both did make a big mistake. Instead of stating: 'An Article on *** just came out that said...' They just wrote the info. This is bad form and Elon is rightfully pissed if big names in the Tesla community just repeat stuff that was said elsewhere as if it was a sure thing.
I think this is concerning. If he's cutting that much, demand must really suck right now. Seems Zach, Drew, Rohan, and others knew things were going to get bad before any improvements. The recent pop on the backs of the China visit is likely to be short lived. Many executives in many sectors seem to be suggesting a weaker consumer and higher rates for longer.
Tesla’s reputation as an employer has taken a big hit. The manufacturer has been exposed as just another ‘sausage factory.’
Will auto-bidder ever be available to homeowners?
It's deployed in their test VPPs.
Battery supply and slowing economy are the two biggest factors facing Elon right now . Everything Tesla does uses a lot of batteries. Super chargers use a lot of batteries. Think about Sandy Monroe’s tear down of the Cybertruck. He found a lot of unfilled battery spaces, and the extra long range battery pack is still unavailable. There is an over supply of batteries in China, but import constraints make those much less attractive. To weather this slowing economic storm Elon is trimming not only fat, but muscle too. There is nowhere near the market for Robotaxis as there is for a small car at this moment, but the need for batteries will be less the margin will be greater. I think Elon sees the near term problems, and isn’t afraid to make the tough decisions needed right now for Tesla to continue making a profit through the hard times ahead.
Why are super charger locations not franchised?
They don't need to hire workers at super charging stations. Franchise parent companies do everything except they allow locations to hire their own employees
Why would they be when Tesla can own and control everything
@@lazerusmfh there is a lot of private properties they can’t own. Condos etc
There’s a SuC partner program, where you can add superchargers to your own property
@@Steph1 some have also been sold to other companies to operate.
How much would it cost to upgrade from hardware 3 to 4 do you think?
A lot. I've heard the two are not swappable. There are insurmountable structural differences in the hardware (think layout of the ports for liquid cooling).
EV Mr D ✔️🖖🌎 Exactly
Tesla cars have a Persona of being expensive. My Wife wants a MY LR but doesn't want people to think she makes too much money, in her business. Elon needs a boxy suv that doesn't look like a rich man's car. Like the new Ford explorer made overseas...
Maybe Tesla could make it "Tesla inside" for Ford in the USA
Would be a cool collaboration
12:12?) What The Frunk is a "solar duck?" Is that how they get power for migration?
Theory: this hurts other car companies much more. They will pay for his new supercharger team.
No, they will just continue to increase their production of hybrids.
XPeng... suuuure, they absolutely know about Tesla's self-driving tech. They've been using a copy for quite some time.
First He bet that there was a recession coming and slowed down expansion. Now he is gutting a jewel. This looks like playing a lead and going into prevent defense, when we expect Tesla to put their foot on the neck of the competition.
If you haven't noticed, there is a slow down. Tesla's just redirecting focus to something that will make explosive growth: robotaxis.
It's "Ready, Fire, Aim all over again
@@billweberxI use FSD daily. While very much improved, it’s not even close to being ready for driving with no steering wheel. Speed limits are wrong, it speeds through school zones, and often panic around trucks.
@@garymyron6699 Yes. But it's improving at a dramatically faster rate. By this time next year, you may not require any interventions.
People should be very weary about future Tesla Recruiting Days...
Is there a reason Tesla doesn't just offer their own financing? They could still give lower interest rates like I see a lot of dealers doing. Then they could raise the price of their cars again.
CapX spending. @1:09 you cited $1200 per car for HW4, as if that's considered part of CapX. I'm not an accountant but is that how it works? This $1200 is a COGS, actually. Can the two be conflated?
ABSURD take 15 min to back the project... I demand an audit. I'm certain it was 15 seconds ! 😂❤
Tesla’s robotaxi initiative needs a new type of supercharger where cars can pull up and recharge without human intervention. Maybe the current staff didn’t get this required change.
Cash is burning fast, so deep cuts need to be made to prevent bankruptcy...again.
Toyota is having it's cake now. 🤷🏻♂️
Supercharger culture problem? Easier to start over?
tesla stock was getting a bit expensive lately, glad i get a opportunity to finally buy in
H100's. What about server buildings, electricity cost, more staff, are things like this included in the $10Bn.
They will be yes.
That one way to fund XAI compute
Is L.E.M self-medicating?
***An inference engine is a software program that applies the knowledge encoded in a knowledge base to answer questions, make decisions, or draw conclusions from new data. FSD currently uses a Neural Network-Based Inference Engine.***
Inference is performed by the software inference engine.
It is likely but not guaranteed that any improvement to inference 'in the car' will be applicable to Optimus.
I hope this makes it clear that the $7 billion will not be used to pay for the physical HWx computer in the customers car.
Musk literally said it included the hardware chips in the cars.
@@billweberx Show me.
The loss of supercharging team, and the rest of the layoffs, frankly, is a tough pill to swallow. Tesla needs to understand the UAW is actively trying to unionize everywhere. Elons attempts to cut costs may end up costing the company a lot more if employees demand a work contract.
That said, it doesn't look good when execs leave the company, many of which were responsible for the growth of the company.
AI can be tasked for sift through data and make the most strategic decisions, better than people. Still need installers and maintainers and those who liaison with utilities. I do think V4 and delayed Semi charger rollout has possibly raised Elon's ire.
Supercharging is highly profitable business, so why lay off a profitable team, especially the leader? It doesn’t make sense.
StreetFighting Mode. Ross, don't let Elon get you in a clinch. He may spit your ear out.
The walrus! It's his signature move!
@@citizenblue Or maybe Stan Hurley.
Its pretty obvious, he is making changes to incorporate AI efficiencies into the operations. Can't wait till Optimus replaces the factory workers.
Reasons behind shift in strategy
We see obviously slower build up in SC network and postponement of 25.000$ car. What are the reasons ? In my opinion
- changed FSD architecture (cancel 300k Lines of code) and use E2E training instead needs huge investments in training hardware
- now > 70 % of yearly investment budget is allocated to AI leaving little room for factory investments
- the IRA with 7500 $ deduction requires batteries to be build in NA. Currently there is not sufficient battery supply of made in Amerika batteries (see Model 3 with no IRA credits)
- battery supply (made in Amerika) is even worse for those with LFP chemistry.
- But 25.000$ vehicle to be successful desperately needs low cost batteries (LFP ?) AND IRA credits.
===> in the context of the points above the 25.000 $ vehicle cannot be successful at the moment. Therefore postponement of GIGA Mexico and and change of focus for GIGA Austin seems to be the right decision. (Missing sales growth this year is more an operational issue than a strategic issue)
Why didnt they discuss this at recent earnings call?
it wasnt the supercharging department its was the supercharger infrastructure there are 2 teams
Hi Dillon Loomis 22 from Trisha 🙂💕
Ouch. This doesn't feel like the best move mission-wise. What's happening that is driving Elon to such drastic measures?
On the layoffs and firings, we must remember that Elon is a ground-up boots on the ground, mattress on the floor entrepreneur, meaning he's comfortable and thrives on a skeleton crew to progress ahead. Though it's a shock to many, it shouldn't be.
"Going to the mattresses."
That's when you know it's real.
With most all of the legacy auto stopping EV production, it’s makes perfect send to slow down the construction.
109%
Tesla always has a plan. Possibly a move to wireless charging. ⚡
Automatic breaking at 90 mph? Passing on a two lane road? Maybe think again.
LICENCE the building of chargers.
If other companies want government cash, Andy the government wants the network, those companies SHOULD be able to build the chargers to the Tesla design profitably.
A royalty to Tesla and access to the network covers their involvement.
