thank you for this incredibly detailed video, Dave! This has given me the confidence to try and sort this out myself. I've had a 2011 Ford Fiesta econetic since new, and this exact same injector is just starting to show evidence of carbon. I know a lot of people like to trash these engines, but mine has over 150,000 miles on it and until now has never had a single issue until now. All just regular maintenance and wear and tear items. Hands down the most reliable car I've ever owned, and that includes my Volvo 240. An old diesel mechanic told me when the car was new to just cut the service intervals in half, so the oil/filter gets done every 6 months or around 5000 miles. Seems like it's worked!

Dave, another excellent video as usual. I do most of my families car repairs, servicing, broken springs etc, but what you did in this video is demonstrate that are least 6 ways of getting this job wrong! This is one job I would leave to experts like yourself, with the necessary tools and a wealth of experience. Keep the videos coming, I always look forward to them!

Great video Dave. 3 questions: what size was the “wiggle”bolt you used to remove the injectors pls? Looks possibly M12? What was the tool that you used to polish the injector seat (I get that you used a seat cutting set for doing the gentle seat cutting) and what was the pin that you used to block the injector hole into the cylinder while you cleaned the debris out with an air duster?

    Hello,
Thank you very much for the information. I have a small question for you. On the robot gearbox, there was over-revving in every gear. I was advised to replace the entire clutch kit, so I did. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. I’ve already performed the adaptation, and there are no error codes. Could it be a problem with the hydraulic unit itself? What do you think? Have you encountered this issue before? I will try to find the hydraulic unit as part of the kit, replace it, and see if it solves the problem.
Thank you in advance for your help!

do everything he did, but add this : unthigh the two studs, clean the threads as well as the hole. torque them at the good spec (I can search if you want), for more safety, I recommend adding some loctite 243 (it will stop the oil to leak from the studs, yes it does). then pursue the procedure described by our friend. torque specs are more than important tho, for every bolt.

Hello, what are the symptoms of this fault, my car 2012 ford focus mk3 1.6 tdci has started to chugg or cough on start up and white light smoke appears from the back side topside of the engine, my engine is clean and there os no symtoms of head gasket white residue, my injectors have been cleaned using liqui moly injector cleaner and i only use shwll V power diesal, i have no idea what the issue is but my hunch is leading to injector seals or maybe fuel pumos or fuel filter, my fuel filter was replaced back in 2020 June time and car has only coversed about 6k miles since then and i have just serviced it about 2k miles ago in August 2021 with v good parts and Mobil 1 3000xe ford focus recommended. Some help would be apreciated thank you feom any engineers and Mechanics.

    Hi there,
I've bought a 2007 Focus with the 1.6tdci. Unfortunately it is leaking at the injectors and creating the black tar like you show in this video. The previous owner told me he had done one of the injector seals already, but only one. All of them have the tar buildup, and it also has diesel fuel pooling around the injectors. What could he have messed up?
It isn't leaking fast enough for me to visually see the diesel leaking. And the pools don't seem to appear immediately. I guess a nice side effect of this is the diesel softens the tar substance

Seems like you need to get them redone properly

Hello, can you tell me if I replace all bad diesel injectors with new, in my engine (Ford Focus 1.6 tdci), will it already improve obvious weak power I feel every day, or does't- perhaps if turbine pump is also demaged (during driving with bad injectors maybe). Does setting new injectors with old pump is good solution with no worries in future? Thanks

What did you use to clean the injector? Carb cleaner and a wire brush do?

Good man yourself David, I have an MOT coming up and thought its about time to fix this white smoke that i'm sure has been bothering many a folk in my rear view mirror. I was wondering would this issue cause blowby and oil through the turbo to the air hose that leads to the airbox? Viewing this from knockagh 👍

That’s a question you can’t answer through TH-cam with out even looking at the car there
So many variables for that fault
White smoke is either un burnt fuel or steam could be condensation from exhaust
      Better taking it to garage
