    Would I buy a Type S after these losses? Yes but…the day I am picking it up here’s what I will do: new exhaust, new lowered spring (way to high), tune the engine to at least 400 to 450bhp if it can be done, replace the front seats ( too bulky) and maybe a better infotainment screen! Then I would daily drive it. For 62,000 dollars Canadian, it’s not a bad deal and most dealerships aren’t charging premium!

      The problem is we have no idea how the engine will respond to tuning yet, and you may void your warranty on any engine repairs for damage caused by the tune. Same goes for the adjustable suspension if you drop it on lowering springs. One of the main appeals of buying Acura is the reliability and so you modding it may negate some of that

      @@edwindiaz7034 warranty as the least I am worried if I am tuning it. But a slight increase will help for sure ;)

      So basically change everything about the car the day you buy it. That says a lot right there in terms of what Acura put out here. The good deal really depends on what you perceive as value and what you are looking for in a car. As a performance car, that by Acura's numbers should be right in the mix with all its competitors, $53k US is not a great deal. Especially considering the Stinger and Genesis can be found for less than this with motivated dealers, infiniti Red sport 400 are selling new in the mid to low $40s (with an MSRP of $53k-$60k), BMW M340i are leasing really well, etc. The Acura Type S does not have aggressive lease deals and even if they are not charging a premium where you are, they are certainly not coming off MSRP to the extent others are because of all the hype. For me, I wanted the Type S to dominant which for as much as it was pumped up, it really needed to do. I would not pay full MSRP even though many will and many have (even over MSRP) because of Acura's marketing. You have to give it to Acura for that.

    Fascinating to see real world results. I’ve always said Acura F’d up in not giving the Type S more HP. It needed 380 -400. Acura should be embarrassed and this will hurt sales overall. I have a whole new respect for genesis now!!!

      The Type S is really fast for its specs, just because the Type S is a bit slower than a car that weighs ~400 pounds less, with a bigger engine, and an extra turbo does not mean it’s a bad car. Put them on the track and see the difference in performance that’s where the type S badge will come in clutch.

      @@acuras4ever you said it yourself, it's 400 pounds heavier. That much weight makes an even bigger difference on the track. I'm sure the sh-awd will provide good traction, but its just too heavy to perform competitively in its league. Acura really dropped the ball with this one

    TLX Type s is a good looking car, but cmon Acura! Even the last model RLX with the electrics motors have 377hp. For a perfomance car, they should of made this car packed with atleast 400hp🤦

    I had narrowed my purchase decision down to these two cars and ended up buying the G70, mostly on account of some features you couldn’t get on the fully dressed Type S like heads up display, 360 cameras, etc. I’ve had the G70 for about 6 weeks now and I have absolutely no regrets. I’ve got the exact same spec as the one in this video, except for black leather with red stitching and red seatbelts. It looks awesome and drives even better than it looks.

      I have also owned a 22 G70 Sport AWD for around 6 weeks and agree with you. Not a single regret. I love the G more than my old C43 and 335!!!

      @@SlipAngleG70 the ride comfort and NVH on the G70 is much better. Also, I prefer the look and feel of the materials in the G70; not sure how well it will wear though. The one thing I miss from my C43 is the crazy AMG exhaust.

      Hyundai struggles with taste. This car is probaby the best-looking out of any of their designs, but it's still a little off.
      If you've ever been to a Kia dealer, the experience is odd. Like they hired people from the carnival to sell cars, and it leaves a lot to be desired, and I don't trust them.
      The genesis is a smaller car, it is also not built like the Acura. The Acura is a very rigid chassis, where the genesis just doesn't feel quite right when you get bossy.
      You can feel the difference in quality when you close the doors, the way things fit, and how much thought was put into the overall design.
      The power is good in both of these cars, and each has a lot of features. I prefer the touchpad so many like to complain about to a touchscreen, no fingerprints. Also, I really like the combination of digital and analog guage cluster. The engine sound is phenomenal, but it's relatively quiet in the cabin. If genesis upped their game, and fixed their reputation, I might be interested.

    This is what I mean. Everything is good about the Type S but needed more power. Keep everything the same but give it 400hp. 355 is to weak for a top of the line sedan.

      I understand all the talk about comparing it to S4s, C43s and M340s. But at least for now the type S is the top performance variant excluding the NSX. And I think their top performance car would have higher performance.

      @hon solo I think it does make sense. Acura should bring a feature set, performance and price that are ALL superior to the German brands they are trying compete with to attract new buyers. Cadillac is doing it so is Genesis particularly in the performance oriented trims. It's a good car and nice looking lacking in performance.

      It’s more like a 200 lb difference. The loaded 3.3t G70 AWD is a tick over or under 4000 lbs depends on which magazine weighs it. I’ve seen 3998 in 4004lbs.

      Agreed the power-to-weight ratio is definitely in the G70's favor. However, in the races that mattered (dig and roll race in the sportiest settings, run 4 and 5), it was closer than expected - only 1 to 1.5 car lengths.

    The thing about the Sport mode in the Stinger and G70, is that is actually works. It really makes a difference. I have a Stinger GT2, and it just turns into a beast in Sport mode, good stuff.

      Nissan just post profit, further they have solid state battery coming, they have PHEV they just went on sale in China develop with partner Donfeng, vencia DDI PHEV, which is more fuel efficient that even Toyota RAV4 prime claiming 4.3l/100km, they Qashqai is still higher seller in Europe, the patrol still sell in high volume in Arabic countries, they have new engines coming, they have 50% thermal efficiency engine coming in 2026, they are already ahead in e-synthetic fuels, which they are current testing with along side other makers like Honda and VW.
      America is not the only market that sell vehicles, what should be more worry is Toyota, they might sell well in some countries but not all, in Europe they meeting stiff competition, China start to release cars in those market and all pressure start.

    This was a really good race. On some of the races the gaps were bigger than what I would have expected. Both are really good cars and worthy to fight in the luxury sport sedan segment.

    As a Honda/Acura fanboy and owner of a 2020 Accord Sport, I’m frustrated and disappointed in the new TLX. The Accord is the lightest out of it’s segment and competitors and pretty much beats out everything with the exception of the higher HP and Torque, K5 GT & N-Line Sonata (when they can put power down), it’s a beast. This TLX is the heaviest of its segment and it has the least amount of power and still costs just as much, it will get destroyed by every single car it races in it’s segment. A simple tune of a Accord 2.0T and/or Civic Type-R, they can easily take the heavy Acura. Honda/Acura pays and put more attention, time, & money into the Honda brand and it shows. The MDX Type-S will be even worse since it’ll likely be heavier with the same powertrain. The ONLY compliment I can give it is that it looks good, better than every single car in the class. Disappointed with you, Acura.

      @@BCautosolutions True but the Type-R got a 5 sec 0-60 which is kinda on par with the Acura so with its light weight, it may take it without even being tuned. I honestly don’t think the Accord Sport 2.0T would do that bad on a roll against it. Tuned would be something I’d like to see.

    The Type S is good looking, but damn! the Genesis is a pretty car. I knew the Genesis would easily take it. The Type S is too heavy and slightly underpowered. I was hoping that Acura would have given it at least 380hp, but per usual, Acura was conservative.

      Maybe that's the approach that make them last a lot longer than competitors? I mean, the Acura will outlive this and the Audi like a decade, EASY. For some, that reputation and resale value are more important than the 0-60, that and that the Acura still one of the best to drive all around.

      The sales numbers will be conservative as well. Having driven two Honda Accords (a 2018 2.0 and a 2014 V6 Touring) both with transmission issues among a slew of other quality issues, I would be hard pressed these days to tour Hondas reliability. Having spoken to several Honda mechanics, they have told me they have seen a significant number of transmission replacement situations in recent years. I believe one said "I am not sure what's going on, transmissions are falling out of the bottom of these things left and right." Maybe reliability was good when Honda made simple cars, using the same design for 20 straight years. That is when they could advertise reliability. Now that they are using new turbo engines with new technology they are no better then any of the other manufacturers with the exception of producing slower cars. Also, while this car is much bigger and heavier then the G70, the rear legroom is literally nearly as cramped. The Kia Stinger would be just a much better option at $10K+ less money. Honda should just go back to the simple people movers and not try to compete with the Hyundais, BMW, Audis, Nissan/Infiniti's, Cadillacs, Mercedes or even Lexus on the performance front because it ain't working.

    Really appreciate John for bringing the the type s out, a little disappointed by the performance of the type S. A little crazy that some of us are asking for type S vs Accord, but Acura brand is really tanking, when you have a new brand in the Genesis destroying your best offering

      I expected the Genesis to win and never been exited by Acura as a premium barons that just seems like it's kind of boring and a Honda with sound deadening , more electronics and leather seats with lots of adjustments , but I could be wrong .
      But I don't know it got destroyed , one car was faster then the other and it was obvious but not LIKE HOLLY SHIT and left the Acura 6-10 cars or tenths behind . It's a matter of a couple tenths that separate them is acceleration. Yes even 1/10th is a car length and 2 or 3 is sort of a big difference but not to where I would say destroyed . There's close or even , there's A is faster then B and then destruction where the cars seem in completely different categories. The Geneis 3.3t cars are known for being quite fast . Some minor tuning apparently makes them very fast similar to how turbo BMWs are often just some tuning on stock set up away from feeling like a very different car . If your an ACURA fan even if I don't get the appeal I don't think that was destruction up against a company on a tear and trying to make statements everywhere that is lighter and has a 3.3 with 2 turbos .

    Second run in Genesis has pretty quick gear changes just after takeoff. Hard to believe, even in comfort mode, that it would change gears that quickly. Throttle position of the Genesis is suspect compared to the other races.

      People are getting dumber or what? Was the almighty NSX fast 0-60? Is the CTR? The only Honda that beats most 0-60, is the new NSX and that's because is hybrid and well, a supercar. Honda is about driving, like.. actually driving, not pressing a button and then hitting the gas soullessly

      @TH-cam Sucks Duh. A slower car that doesn't have some of the options that its competitors has but yet it's priced at 53k. You can buy a 46k that's 0-60 is 5 secs & it's equipped with all the specs that the Type S has minus the SH-AWD. Think prices based off the specs my man, not just the specs. If this car was priced lower like 49k then ppl wouldn't complained.

      355 is not impressive at all, considering how heavy the Acura is. Price is also steep. It does need 400 hp engine and more torque. You can get a Stinger for cheaper, still looks good, new Kia badge, comfortable and faster.

    Thanks for the matchup that many were looking for. It will be interesting seeing the tlx tuned soon. Even though it is a new engine. why didn't honda just use their 3.5 mass production v6 and slap the turbo on that. It would of probably brought the price down and up the HP to 400+

    I love the rear of the TLX Type S. Honestly, seeing it made me slightly regret getting my G70. However, seeing the Genesis walk away in the drag races reassured me. If my G70 had quad exhaust it would be perfect. It is so awesome to drive. I can't help but put it in sport with all assists off even when I'm daily driving.

      you can swap out your g70’s exhaust pretty easily actually. also-the g70 IMO looks 10x more unique and sexy and elegant. at night it looks amazing.

      @@moistydoooood No regrets here, my other choices were a 340i or Giulia, I couldn't pass up all the extras in the G70 so I'm happy with my decision. If I had more money to spare however, I would get a Giulia Quadrifoglio but that MSRP starts at 78k, lol. I could have purchased it but it would keep my spending tight and uncomfortable. I'm happy with my G70, I get compliments everywhere I go and weirdly enough there's more Giulia's (base model) on the road than the G70 so I stand out. I get so many compliments, it's crazy.

      @@TheRedRaven_ congrats! I recently purchased 2023 g70 3.3t RWD with sport prestige and advanced packages (only one on lot!) Hyundai were open to negotiating unlike Cadillac. I wanted the CT5V but Caddy didn’t want to negotiate…msrp for g70 spec’d out was $55K, CT5V $65K (fully loaded but added paint protection, tint and dealer markup closer to $70K! I liked the handling and ride more in CT5V but I was still impressed with g70 driving dynamics…it helped that mine included sport prestige cause that adds lsd, adaptive dampers, auto rev match, brembo brakes and such. 👍🏼

    I think the gear change from third to fourth in the Genesis in the second run was completely messed up, which is why the Acura stuck with the Genesis so closely in that run. Start playing at 3:43 and then listen to the way too early shift at about 3:51.

      @@doubled8247 I will says it’s nice to know the difference in time between the 2 cars quarters when driven by drivers closer to your typical driver. Not too concerned with the flat 1/4 mile time but knowing a car is .5 sec faster through the quarter is useful since it’s hard to tell how much a car wins by with the close angle finish line shot

    The Type-S looks nice outside but I’m not a fan of the dash. Loving my G70. Eco getting 25-30 mpg. Sport+ having tons of fun. All in the lap of luxury. Mods to come later.

    That's ridiculously impressive, the Acura is down on displacement, down 1 turbo, down on BHP and Torque and it's heavier and still doesn't get absolutely trashed, very very impressive.
    Also like the looks of the Acura way more :)

      @@Mike-lt6sj That was with mod (tune) on the Type-S even though the owner didn't say anything about it. I knew something was off the first time I saw this video. If the Type-S was stock the G70 would pull like found in the Straight Pipe channel racing these cars.

      I haven't seen anyone with a tune race on the type s yet. I know the hondata is saying 400 and 440 torque. This type s doesn't have that, it would be eating that genesis if so. Either way, these are Dad cars, not sports cars.

      @@Mike-lt6sj I watched this video when it was published last year.. I wasn't sure at the time but God just told me now that gold Type-S was not stock. He said it had just a tune. Don't know what tune exactly, but it was putting out more power than what stock Type-S puts out. If the race was done with stock that G70 would be pulling bus lengths on the Type-S. The stock G70 (RWD version) can do 12.9s and trap at 110 mph, showroom stock. The Type-S doesn't trap like that. If the race was to half mile or 1 mile the result will be horrendous for the Type-S.

    These videos are great but I'd love to see comparison in handling and tracking times, etc. For those complaining about less power on the Acura, I'm sure very soon we'll be able to JB4 it and get it up to the standard ish of 415 whp on most twin turbos after installing a piggy back tune.

    Probably the lack of real boost building in the G makes it slower off the line but then yeah physics kicks in

      The poor off the line is due to the transmission tuning. A TCU tune can fix that but will void the warranty. I have a 2022 G70 3.3T Launch Edition AWD and was looking into it. They tune it conservatively so they can offer a longer warranty.

    for the price of the genesis 3.3t AWD and also the Stinger GT2 AWD... there's nothing messing with them. $50k-$52k I wouldn't buy the TLX type S. no pano sunroof, lousey interface non touch screen and not even the rear seats are heated or have any charging ports. I wanna see the civic type R on a roll race vs the type S. the transmission on the type S is hurting lol

    I'm so done with Acura. After the 2004-2008, they went to the curb. Oil consumption issues, poor design, and now no increased horsepower. I've owned the 04 TL which was love, still driving my 2010 TL SH-AWD both 6 speed manual transmission. I'm over the fact I can't get a manual shift vehicle 😒

    I'm thinking it's a combination of several small things, obviously the lighter weight, greater hp/torque numbers, but I bet the twins on the Genesis are selected for more mid to top end than the Type-S. Acura can't have a twin V-6 that costs a fraction of the NSX prancing around the dealerships though.
    That was a great race and I do like both cars, but Genesis has just *been killing it* with this latest generation of vehicles, along with the Stinger, of course!

      If you plan on trading that g70 before it hits 50000 miles I’d say go for it. If you want it to last over 500000 miles go for the Acura. Hyundai/Kia falls into the realm of really un reliable cars.

    Me and my buddy were just talking about this. As happy as we were about the type s coming back it just didn't deliver like we expected. The kia stinger and g70 are lighter, have more power , and came out of left field swinging above its weight. The type s needs a weight reduction and 400+ horsepower so it could compete. Hopefully when they start tuning the type s it delivers the Honda/acura known power everyone wants.

    Let’s just put it this way. Being a fairly new company, Genesis has made an amazing car. Considering that the Type S has been around for a couple decades.
    And to be honest I just love the looks of the G70 better (IMO)
    My dad has a 2010 Hyundai Genesis sedan with 300,000+km and it’s still running strong.

      That would be unfair. As a 2016 q50 rs owner Id make dog meat out of the type s. As a loyal Honda fan and Honda owner I was hoping for a 400 hp twin turbo output on the type s. Honda owners are left to make those numbers at their own expense. Kinda knew Honda was gonna short change us in the hp numbers and placing a single Mitsubishi turbo instead. Honda’s “earth dreams” mantra is what seals that fate. No v8 and never will be offered. Killed the v10 in the 2nd gen nsx with a v6 twin Mitsubishi made turbo setup. Will stick to my baby gtr vr30ddtt even though it ain’t reliable like a Honda. At least it has billet made turbos. Nissan ftw.

      Acura has no problem but g70 mostly has drop down in its power ... G70 should be stronger than its performance.

    TLX Type S heavier. Do you get something for that in durability, equipment, safety etc? May be its heavier for a reason? I'd appreciate some educated feedback. I am considering one of these to buy.

    I would like to see how they do on a road course. I live in the mountain area and like a spirited drive on twisty roads more often then not. That's what the Type-S was built for. On paper I could already see that the G70 was going to win. but Paper can't tell you how well a suspension and related controls are dialed in.

      Never put a Korean brand 🤮car with the word luxury in a same sentence.. Korean cars🙄 are garbage and they had a bad stigma attached to them.. Most Will roll their eyes when you tell them you drive one🙄

The car speaks for itself, 65k miles on my stinger and drives like when i bought it with 6 miles on the ODO, do i give a fuck about what people think even though all i get is compliments on the car? You re the reason there is "stigma" for any car brand, you cant accept when an automaker has progress. Probably a teenager without a car or a job that read on some forum that korean cars are bad. Get out to the real world

    Glad to see my theory about the Acura was correct. I’m a q50 rs owner. I watched that race as well. For the price of the Acura you would think it had more balls. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    I think with the popularity of the g70 we forger that Genesis has both the G80 and G90 out there as well which are very fast as well.

    Acura this is just pathetic. Lexus and Acura are resting on their laurels when the only selling point is the unquantifiable “projected” reliability. The TLX Type S is embarrassing. We can’t even say that it’s the practical/pragmatic or value-oriented choice because of how pathetic the rear seat leg room is for the second row, AND the overinflated/expensive price tag!

      Why did they use the ugliest cheap looking analog gauges too? It’s going on 2022. Those gauges look like they belong in some old Subaru WRX or EVO from the 90s or early 2000s. There’s so much disappointing stuff about the TLX.

      @Tony Dinh Acura have better resell than what? Acura has been on death’s door for the past 10 years. The worst car I’ve ever owned was an Accord 2.0T Touring, the 10-speed transmission is trash.

      I think the 8 speed auto in the G70 is preventing it from completely steamrolling the Type S. Genesis has made much improvements to the transmission for the new G80. Hopefully the transmission updates will be added to the next G70.

    I like these straight line drag type of races but can we see how the car is really handling around a track or a lap like lap times car noise handling overstear and things like that I thing most of the cars you test have more potential than goin in the straight line .

    The tuning potential with that twin turbo tho, most likely squeeze more power than a tune with the type s then the weight will play even more of a role than it already does
