  • What if you can can recover quicker after your hip replacement surgery posterior appoach. In this video we are going to do those exercises to get you back on your feet faster.
After you had a hip replacement surgery posterior approach, your doctor give you precations to avoid hip dislocation and improve healing. Then the doctor will refer you to a therapist to help you remember those precautions and to do your therapy to get you stronger, reduce pain and get you back to your daily activities.
First exercises ankle pumps. We need to get the blood flowing to your entire leg where you had your hip replacement. Do this for maybe 30 seconds.
Second exercise is quad squeezes. Sit up on your bed with your legs extended. Put a roll of towel or a pillow under your knee and push it down using the back of your knee and hold it for 10 seconds and then release do this around 6 to 10 repetitions.
Third exercise is hamstring squeezes. Put the role of towel or pillow under your foot with your knee slightly bent and try to push down as hard as you can for 10 seconds. Do this 6 to 10 times.
Fourth exercise is glute squeezes or bridging. You can lay on your back and try to pick up your butt by squeezing your butt cheeks together. That position for 10 seconds and repeat it 6 to 10 times.
Fifth exercise is kicking to the side. Make sure your toes are not pointing inwards. Do this 10-12x. Do this on the good leg as well to facilitate weight-bearing on the leg that you had the hip replacement.
Sixth exercises is leg swings. Stand on your good leg and do this swinging of your leg 10 times. Do this on the good leg as well to practice weight bearing on the Leg with the hip replacement.
The seventh exercise is ankle rocking. This will improve your ability to move your ankles properly when you are walking. Do this 10 to 12 times.
Then finally practice walking. Use your walker for the first few weeks. Your muscles are trying to recover so it will be tight and you might experience pain. When you take a step with the leg that you had a hip replacement always step with your heel first and not your entire foot flat on the floor. And then slowly roll your entire foot forward up to your toes and then take a step in the same manner where they were good leg.

Hi Nathan. Your exercises are great and very effective. Please can you give us some exercises for the cure of sciatic nerve pain? I do practice some but they are not so effective. Thanks.

Thanks for your response Nathan. I found your video on sciatica but since I have Parkinsons and arthritis I am not so flexible. So please can you suggest some easier ones. Thanks a lot.

Every doctor says to use cane on opposite leg as surgery. Why are you using cane on same side as injured leg?
