I got the both and so far find Mortal Shell much more immersive and interesting. Hellpoint has far more gameplay and some interesting mechanics, it’s a more “complete “ game. I suggest both to any souls fans.
Very nice breakdown, I like the fact that you don't even mention which one is your personal fav. For me it's hellpoint by a country mile for all the reason you listed plus one major thing: most soulslike games don't give you almost any lore at the start, but also when you finish most of these games you are still like "what the fuk all that even means ?!". When you finish hellpoint, especially with 150%+ data and dialogue with ministry, you understand pretty much everything. Story becomes clear and thus, for me way more engaging. On top of that it explores really interesting concepts, that actual scientists are trying to figure out, like uploading conciousness to a device and problems that might come with it, harvesting power from celestial bodies which bares similarities to Kardashev scale or Dyson rings (kind of), space colonization in general. Ofc it's mostly demonic and horror fiction, but some themes are nice food for thought. Mortal Shell was just like... "you manage to do B" and you ask yourself "but what for and how?" and the answer is "because of C and to do D"... "but what the fuck is C and D?!?!" Not to spoil the "story" that's just how I felt and the end in broad strokes ;P
The problem I found with Mortal Shell was the health system. The hardening mechanic was a nice touch, but healing with mushrooms that doled out health over sixty seconds negated their effectiveness completely. So during boss fights you have no access to healing items, save for the mechanic of jumping back into your skin. Will try out Hellpoint for sure.
I think the game does that to encourage parrying, as long as you parry from time to time, the challenges and bosses become very doable, little are the cases where I lose my shell thanks to that mechanic, needless to say the shell mechanic itself is already giving you a 2nd hp bar and a full heal when you recover your shell after death, also s are way too forgiving in this game, so dodging is insanely good.
I've enjoyed Hellpoint so much more than Mortal Shell. The massive, interconnected levels, the ability to level your character how you want, the multitude of armour and weapons, and the awesome setting all make this totally worth the price. Cons are an overall rough feel, way less polished than Mortal Shell, and yes pretty buggy at times. Hopefully the devs can fix these minor issues.
Dude I'm getting back into Remnant from the ashes, now that the final dlc is out, but already got Mortal shell. Still playing Nioh wotd as well, basically great times for souls-like players. Thanks for this comparison video.

@Harshit Mittal I mean, demon souls was very much like that (normal enemies could be as hard or harder than bosses). Now saying 90% of the souls bosses don't require skill is a big exaggeration, I do however see your point. Timing parries, and using the right ninja tools is a matter of knowledge and practice, it wasn't the most difficult souls-like to me, but definitely the less fun due to the lack of rpg mechanics. I feel like Sekiro plays more like metal gear revengeance and tenchu, than a souls game.
I got about 60 hours on Hellpoint and I still haven't found all secrets, armours or weapons, I couldn't believe just how good this game is, I tried the demo and was blown away by how familiar to souls players it feels while feeling new, even not being a fan of sci fi the story got me interested, definitely go for it, Mortal Shell is next on my list

YES! Been waiting for a video comparing the two. Just finished Mortal shell and loved it. Waiting for a sale on Hellpoint tho. Thanks for the video. Great work. Cheers mate.
My biggest beef with Mortal Shell is how much it costs-the length is more of a $20 game, to be frank-so if I get Hellpoint it'll definitely be when it's cheaper.
@@jroberts2nd I got Mortal Shell for $15 so totally worth it for me but it is a short game for sure. Slightly disappointed in the end game. I platinumed at roughly 16hrs and there was nothing else to do so pretty disappointed. Also, the bosses were super easy but I did love the game overall.
Excellent video! Lot of good points were broght up. And as you said both games are fantastic, but hard to compare. Mortal shell has breathtaking graphics, animations and insanely polished, however I have to choose hellpoint solely because it makes up its shortcomings with variety and how creative and different each build felt. Moreover the layout of each level is on fromsoft's level. And it is not a small achievment.
I played both. I found Mortal Shell absolutely beautiful and the combat was great if not a bit too easy due to hardening and parrying being available, but in the end astoundingly short. It felt like they wanted to test building a test hub world with a short, medium, and large dungeon to see if the system works, I know you backtracked through them to elongate the dungeon but that only emphasized their actual size. With Hellpoint the graphics and combat felt dated but overall I felt was a more complete experience, with the bonus of not being the usual fantasy setting. Hellpoint definitely buggier than Mortal shell and I hope they fix those issues in the future. I would recommend Hellpoint over Mortal Shell, but if possible, play both. They are still memorable experiences.
I couldn't get into Mortal Shell's unforgiving parry mechanic, but I'll give it another try. Hellpoint looks more well-balanced, almost like Ashen, Dark Souls, and a little bit of Dead Space put together.
As a dark souls fan, the mortal shell world is so amazing to look at and explore. Having lots of fun and I plan to play through with each shell. Starting with Tiel though as I believe he will present me with the greatest challenge to begin with
Even with exploring there is nothing there. I'd find a chest and it would have Tar or a weapon upgrade. More armor or weapon styles would have been great. Boss music was good though.
Great video man. Picked up both of these games. Playing through Hellpoint currently and really enjoying it. Both games should keep me ticking over til we hear more about Elden Ring.
Gotta say mortal shell felt better and far more polished but really short. You can feel the weight of the gameplay whereas hellpoint is bigger and more content. Ran into many many bugs that made it unfair and broken. The hitboxes in Hellpoint seems very inconsistent. Hellpoint is quite easy also. Mortal shell was hard af if u go for the platinum. Overall I'd recommend both games but Mortal shell is the better game imo.
Mortal Shell seems like a better tech demo and proof of concept; Hellpoint is the truer Souls-like experience... the kind you can really sink your teeth into, and spend a lot of time mastering and exploring. Because the true Dark Souls experience is as much about exploring vast, intricate levels as it is about fine-tuned and merciless combat. Speaking as the kind of Souls fan that prefers the first Dark Souls to all subsequent titles... I'd recommend Hellpoint. Also if you're open to playing something jankier and less balanced, but just as sprawling and interesting, I'd recommend Immortal: Unchained. It's a third person shooter Souls-like with vestigial melee combat, and it can be unforgiving when it comes to character build, but like Hellpoint, the size and intricacy of the world is enough to keep you exploring for a long time, with the scenery only getting more interesting and unpredictable as you progress.
For me, it would definitely be Hellpoint because of its variety. Additionally the setting gets a plus from me as well. I don't want to see a medieval european setting anymore. There are already tons of games out there.
Another excellent video, I have already bought both. I just can’t stop playing hellpoint yet even though I got platinum it’s just that much fun for me. Hellpoint has a big Metroidvania feel for me which paired with dark souls type combat is perfect pairing of genres for my tastes.
Great video Onos! Been playing mhw for last 70 gaming hours. Then I will play Nioh dlc, then remnant dlc and then I will play both of these games. Glad to be able to watch your videos then, with your tips, tricks etc. Thanks for all the great quality content you create!!!
Onos Gaming I see all your videos coming by, you are awesomely active!!! Great to see!!!! Yeah, it's a great time with Demon's Souls coming out on PS5 and now these games you are covering. And then hopefully news about Elden Ring soon after Demon's Souls 😁😁😁
@@cleightonpresutti5764 like I said, I tend to go after all souls like games except darksouls, including bloodborne and sekiro. I also enjoy the Nioh games
I bought Hellpoint recently, and can't recommend it enough. Don't let the mixed reviews change your mind. A majority of the negative reviews are from folks who identify its nigh 1:1 likeness to DS1, but then still gripe about the same flaws present in DS1, like clunky mechanics and poor platforming. I think one issue with Hellpoint with some validity is the enemy variations. Yea, the first 4 - 5 areas you go to essentially have the same 5 - 6 enemy variants. However, this has more to do with it being a Sci-Fi occult space station setting, as opposed to a vast fantasy world where multiple creatures have the potential of proliferating. Another issue with Hellpoint is the lack of direction, and the likelihood you will need to perform multiple play throughs to get the ultimate ending. In comparison to DS1 at least you have someone tell you, go ring two bells, this game opens with "you don't know anything, so go figure it out". The Lore isn't well presented as DS1, and a lot of the time you'll run into a NPC, not know why they're there, forget them, and never go back, or worse, remember you need to find an NPC but entirely forget where they were when you originally ran across them. I have Mortal Shell on my wishlist in Steam and will probably buy it if it goes on sale, like I did with HellPoint. However, after experiencing it, I would totally purchase HellPoint even if it weren't on sale.
Played both, but got more out of Hellpoint. Mortal shell is the setting I go for more, but the lack of character customisation for me, hurts it badly. I like a fast character, but with at least a decent bit of health, and I could not give Tiel the extra health I wanted to. Hellpoint on the other hand made me rage at the bad platforming, but I continued on long enough to platinum it.
Hahaha yeah I can relate to the rage! The platforming was a real pain at times!... You're right about mortal shell too... Would really have enjoyed some more options to customise the gameplay. That said both games were great... Not perfect but both really good
I’ve played Mortal Shell 3 times now, but this is the first I’ve heard of Hellpoint for whatever reason..I like how you compared the two games, all of your videos are great that way..I find myself always wanting to pick up a game again, or getting a new one after your reviews lol. Hellpoint looks really interesting, I’m going to find it and give it a go..I’m also waiting patiently for the Mortal Shell -Virtuous Cycle dlc to be released…thanks for your hard work Sir 😉👍
Mortal shell got a completely new dimension with the DLC. There is much more background accessible and the "arcade" mode is fun and adds lots of replayability. However the coop option in Hellpoint is a big plus for me and I spent 3 times more hours playing it so far than Mortal Shell
Hellpoint's level design is great in theory, but severely lacks focus, very rarely giving players an identifiable goal. Since so much of the game is spent in claustrophobic corridors, landmarking can be incredibly difficult and figuring out where you're supposed to go is entirely on the player to discover.
The problem for me is that the areas are quite forgettable (with maybe 2/3 exceptions). That is what made it difficult for me to remember where npcs, elevators, doors and secrets were. While I do like the breach synchronisation mechanic, it can make backtracking tedious. I think the mechanic is good, but is not implemented in the right game.
My personal Souls tier list from best to worst (I haven't played Revenant or The Surge): Dark Souls 3, Hellpoint, Bloodborne/DS Remastered (equal imo, but I personally prefer DSR), Salt and Sanctuary, Sekiro (I struggle to consider this an actual Souls game as outside of the combat/difficulty, I don't see the similarities), Dark Souls 2, Mortal Shell, Code Vein (the worst of the worst). Best co-op/multiplayer Souls list: Hellpoint and Salt and Sanctuary. Hands down. Hellpoint is very good and is a truly well done co-op experience. The split screen works really well too. Even for a first game of theirs, it has exceeded my expectations. I'm also very much looking forward to Hellpoint and S&S 2. I couldn't care less what the future of Mortal Shell and Code Vein are though. Those games just suck. I've forced myself to play them for about two to three hours each and they're even worse than Dark Souls 2 - which is a real 'accomplishment'. Don't bother. Mortal Shell has a good art team, but everything else? Yikes. You can effectively say the same for Code Vein. My advice? Substitute Mortal Shell and Code Vein for Hollow Knight and Dead Cells (Metroidvania games aren't much different). Those games are good. Mortal Shell and Code Vein are shit. They're so bad that they genuinely do makes Dark Souls 2 seem ok.
I've got both. Still haven't fininshed hellpoint. My backlog is ridiculous. I have recently dove back into Skyrim with mods. Too many great games to play. Look forward to starting mortal shell.
My backlog is huge too. Skyrim was the first game I bought for my PC and I still barely got through the story. Modded the crap out of it though. Spent more time modding then playing lol.
Mortal Shell is just a Knights Of The Temple-like game more of a beat em up for me, Hellpoint is actually a souls-like game, both way too different, I kind of like both go with The Surge 2))
Mortal Shell for me was just such an immersive experience. My 1st playthrough of MS was the closest I've ever come to the feeling of that very first Dark Souls experience. I really hope they are able to create a sequel one day as they put the foundations in place for such a clever, rewarding and addictive combat system as well as a engrossing world that felt like it had depth and lore despite being such a compact and short experience.
Hellpoint is soooo good. And is wayyy harder than any of the souls games due to the fact that you can increase the difficulty an u godly amount until basically every enemy can 1 shot you no matter how high your character lvl is.
I like putting those 2 games together, as they feel like 2 sides of the same coin to me, I played Mortal Shell first and during my Hellpoint playthrough I kept comparing it to MS. I'd say that Mortal Shell is "objectively" a better, more polished game, but Hellpoint just has so much more heart that I can't help but prefer it, even with all the jank and much inferior combat. I hope that the devs get around to making a sequel, with some more polish it could turn out really amazing.
For me, Mortal shell is on a whole other level of quality. While everything you mention is subjective, I feel the audio is just objectively better in mortal shell. The sound design is beyond professional and well into the realm of meaningful artwork. The rotting Christ dlc cements this fact even further. While I don’t dislike hellpoint by any means, the only thing I think it outdoes mortal shell in, is the actual amount of content in the game. I look forward to the next game from both of these developers but I would congratulate the team of mortal shell for the atmosphere they have created and just how close they got to capturing the magic of from software. A feat which maybe only salt and sanctuary has come close to.
@@ajpend You may not like it when it's intricate (pleb taste), indeed, but objectivelly something can be more complex than another thing. Therefore OP is wrong and not everything is subjective.
@@asgoritolinasgoritolino7708 OP said "everything you mention is subjective". Each criterion has an objective measure. For each criterion, each user has a subjective preference.
@@ajpend I know that your preference towards one particular characteristic or criteria is totally subjective and personal, but still, that critera can be measured objectivelly. Objectivelly, a level can be more intrincate than other, and you may prefer that or not (though I would't try to sell a level for being simplistic). My point is that not everything in this vid is subjective as OP said, though you are absolutely right in that taste is.
i´d say mortal shell is more of dark souls (methodical and calculated combat) and Hellpoint is more of a bloodborne clone (reactionary and aggressive combat).
Another great video. I've been debating between these two for a bit. If you remember I liked your Dark Souls 3 review awhile back and well...I STILL SUCK lol. But I like to keep torturing myself so I think I may just get both of these. Keep up your great work on this channel!
Yeah I remember. Haha yeah dark souls always makes me feel like that too... I'm going to be trying out Sekiro soon when I have time... Suspect I'll be publishing footage of me sucking at it 😂
Hellpoint has a bug that makes the upgraded Eva Space Suit not work properly. There are sections of the game with no oxygen, so you have to wear the Eva Space Suit in that area to survive. Anyways buddy's suit doesn't work properly on our co-op game. It halted our gameplay entirely. I suppose I can bypass the area on solo and invite him in after we pass that section, but he won't get any of them items I find while I'm at it. Hellpoint needs fixed. This happened to us yesterday.
i like hellpoint better. both are based on the dark souls gameplay concept but hellpoint is more unique and different enough in terms of setting and style to be it´s own thing. mortal shell seems more like a dark souls copy to me.
As someone who hates slow/heavy games, and who never parries, or blocks, I found Mortal Shell unplayable. Hellpoint took a lot of getting used to, but I ended up really enjoying it.
As someone who has played and beaten both games, I found hellpoint to be the better game. I tried really hard to play through mortal shell a second time but kept getting bored. Hellpoint has new bosses and secrets that unlock after beating the game.
Mortal Shell’s bosses were extremely easy just so you know. It’s definitely more of a “difficulty is in the levels not the bosses” kind of game, but I didn’t have a problem with it because the combat felt satisfying. I only died to one boss, the final boss, once out of every boss in the game. He only got me because of his massive health pool though, and yes, my weapon was +5.
Hellpoint seems like the true space souls like I wanted, Surge sucked ass. Edit: really loved mortal shell and played it ever since last year and this will be me seeing how hellpoint will be compared
@@Onos I've already bought Mortal Shell that I enjoy a lot. But such a video is very helpfull. Mortal Shell is a gem. Short but soooo good. I enjoy the organic environment and the differences between all characters.
I have both and they each have their strengths. I prefer Mortal Shell even though it's shorter and lacks real character building. It just has a level of polish to it that when paired with the excellent combat, has me totally hooked. I'm currently on NG+7. Hellpoint on the other hand has a great sci-fi setting, much more intricate level layouts, and meaty character building. The combat is classic Souls for the most part, which is good, but doesn't feel as fluid as in Mortal Shell. Hellpoint would be a lot more enjoyable for me if its visuals were better. The presentation looks very amateur to me.
I think a certain level of forgiveness has to be given based on how small the team is... I guess they spent longer making the level design in Hellpoint awesome... And used a much older engine for the graphics.... Can you imagine what would happen if the mortal shell and Hellpoint teams joined together?? 🙏🎉🤜🤛
Hellpoint looks like it plays "faster" if that makes any sense. Mortal Shell maintains the "sluggish" nature of the souls genre. Hellpoint is more like the old school legacy of kain Soul Reaver games.
If what I read is accurate then Mortal Shell was made by a team of 12, and Hellpoint by a team of 15. Or maybe it's the other way around. ☺ Hopefully they both sell well enough to justify sequels from bigger teams.
For me Hellpoint is better. But Mortal Shell has definitely better graphics. Is way more polishes in my opnion. Hellpoint would be better than already is if they also added more life to the game, more dialogues, cutscenes and it didnt take too long to connect to some other players.
@@kevo300 I havent actually 😂😂😂 I stopped playing the gamealthough (I love Hellpoint) because of those mf. The game is installed but in stand by hehe I thought about asking for help but I stook 3h and NO ONE was online at the time.
Hellpoint for me is far more complex and polished when one gives it a try. Better combat, character build, far more better level complexity. The 'atmosfear' grabbed me by the balls very quickly and I'm glad the fascination has not stopped since.
MORTAL SHELL looks boring with too many limitations that I personally want from a game. HELLPOINT has clever level design, many combat/weapon options both ranged and melee, explorable areas with many secrets to discover, character progression, crafting, etc. M.S., on the other hand, has pretty graphics and much more polished animations, those two things, at least for me are just the cherry on the cake, without the other components, it's just a SHELL. Btw. great video!
Hmm, tricky question. Out of these two I'd probably say Moral Shell.. but if you're considering Souls games.... I'd recommend dark souls or bloodborne as well... there is a spoiler free bloodborne review in the reviews playing if you fancy taking a look
@@Onos Thanks. I only ask because when I preordered Elden Ring a few months back, both Hellpoint and Mortal Shell were recommended. I'm not a novice to the first Dark Souls, I played it until my PS3 suffered a sudden yellow light of death. I agree with you that I should go for Mortal Shell.
@Mango mesh ahh got you.. the yellow light of doom!! ...I've pre ordered elden ring too and I'm pulling an all-night session tonight to make a vid to showcase base level ps4 performance. Hope you enjoy mortal shell anyways... its definitely different than the souls series but once you get into it...pretty decent (but quite short)
@@Onos I've always suspected that it was Dark Souls that killed my PS3. What are the guns like in Hellpoint, are they better than the Firearms in Bloodborne? Also, good to come across someone else from the UK.
@Mango mesh the guns are more frequently usable than in bloodborne... you can use them as a main source of damage eventually but they can be tricky to find at first. Yay!! Another person I the UK haha... welcome ! 🙏
Seeing the comments, Hellpoint wins. But its odd that of the two games, Mortal Shell was the one getting dlc and an enhanced edition for ps4. How do Sony measure these things? I think Hellpoint would be a better option to receive dlcs and an enhanced editon.
Both of them are good and stand on their own. However, in my oppinion Hellpoint is more worth its full price. Not saying its better, it simply has enough content to justify the full-price tag while I feel Mortal Shell, while a smidge more enjoyable(again, my personal oppinion) has less content and "variety" and as such I cannot justify paying full-price for it, rather I would strongly suggest people wait for a sale. Don't miss either though, they are both really good Souls-Likes.
Mortal Shell hands down. Just a side note, I can't stand when Mortal Shell is called a 'soulslike', sure it shares a couple of mechanics with the souls games but it's a completely different beast in its entirety. Too many games get compared to souls just because of either sharing a similar death system or similar fight mechanics. Most people seem to forget that the fight mechanics of souls games weren't created by Miyazaki. In fact, the first 2 games that had lock on fight mechanics with dodging or shield blocking if I remember correctly were Castlevania 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time. All Miyazaki did was make it more challenging. Even tye death mechanic isnt entirely unique. There were many action adventure games throughout the years that had similar death mechanics. Miyazaki just put his own spin on it and combined the different mechanics to create his own signature style. But back on topic, Mortal Shell is my favorite modern action rpg. I love everything from the tone, atmosphere, lore, secrets and most of all the shell system. The free update which included the new game mode was groundbreaking as well. It makes for almost endless game experiences and let's not forget the new playable character with his epic katana. I mean seriously I can't find anything about this game that I don't like. I can't wait to see what they do with a follow up. I hope everything carries over with some new things added but hopefully they don't make an open world. Too many games go the open world route and fill it with repetitive b.s. or leave it barren with nothing to do. I prefer the semi open world with connected tunnels and paths. I do hope they make it bigger but just not like I described before. I'm also hoping for a few new shells and weapons and maybe even introduce some lite magic system as well, maybe even a crafting system with up to five different grenade type weapons. That would be wicked. And as far as newer games go, I will be getting a current gen console as soon as I can for just one upcoming game Ive been looking forward to for a long time, Lords of the Fallen. I don't know why the first got so much hate, I love that one as well and still play it to this day. Sure it's definitely a copy of the souls formula but so what, they did a good job and it got their feet wet for what looks to be the next great action rpg. Take care everyone and God bless!
Thanks for the comment bro. It's been a while since I recorded (real life stuff gets in the way) but I have to say I agree. In hindsight, "soulslike" is a bit outdated these days. It's an easy way to describe the basic premise of a game, but this definitely has its own identity. Was about to recommend the new Lords of the Fallen as worth your time, but I'm guessing you're way ahead of me already!
I feel like mortal shell is only half a game it feels like they have left a few things out and that's why the end was so abrupt. Still a great game but far to short
Yeah I have the feeling that they were working to a tight deadline and ended up running out of time perhaps... Would leave a lot of room for dlc though!

Bro, g2a, got Hellpoint for 9 bucks.
@@JM-yq9gd What is G2A? What platform did u get it on?
Yea it was easy compared to other soul like games it was also fun something hell point forgets to add
Have 60+ hrs in Hellpoint and 12 in Mortal Shell.
Hellpoint is criminally underrated.
500+ in DS3 and BB but you know
Hell point reminds me of Bloodborne, build wise
I couldn't get into Mortal Shell's unforgiving parry mechanic, but I'll give it another try. Hellpoint looks more well-balanced, almost like Ashen, Dark Souls, and a little bit of Dead Space put together.
If you’re a souls fan I’m gonna go with: get both games
As a dark souls fan, the mortal shell world is so amazing to look at and explore. Having lots of fun and I plan to play through with each shell. Starting with Tiel though as I believe he will present me with the greatest challenge to begin with
Even with exploring there is nothing there. I'd find a chest and it would have Tar or a weapon upgrade. More armor or weapon styles would have been great. Boss music was good though.
Great video man. Picked up both of these games. Playing through Hellpoint currently and really enjoying it. Both games should keep me ticking over til we hear more about Elden Ring.
Thanks! Hope you like them. I suspect you won't get a huge amount of time out of mortal shell... But... Demon souls remake is coming soon!
If/when you've finished those, I suggest The Surge 2, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption, and NOSE
Think i will end up getting both, hellpoint first.
Nice review.
Thanks dude - yeah I'd say theyre both worth playing for sure
Who else is team Mortal Shell?
I’ve played both and Hellpoint is a lot of fun but Mortal Shell is freaking awesome.
Noob Psylock Hard agree.
No Touch Throw tbh I’m not really feeling the combat in mortal shell
The only thing I didnt like about mortalshell is its length. Great game tho
Mortal shell is so good
i'll probably still get both :3
Hahaha yep... That's what I did
Gotta say mortal shell felt better and far more polished but really short.
Thank you for the Honest and none by est video ! I found it very informative 👌
My pleasure! Thank you for the comment!
Non-biased I think you mean
Bah, don't be a wise apple and correct my spelling.
Awesome vid man!
Thanks man appreciate that!
For me, it would definitely be Hellpoint because of its variety. Additionally the setting gets a plus from me as well. I don't want to see a medieval european setting anymore. There are already tons of games out there.
Excellent comparison.
Love them both :)
Another excellent video, I have already bought both. I just can’t stop playing hellpoint yet even though I got platinum it’s just that much fun for me. Hellpoint has a big Metroidvania feel for me which paired with dark souls type combat is perfect pairing of genres for my tastes.
Try Hollow Knight. Immense metroidvania with souls Elements and tons of things to love 10/10
If you are low on cash, go for the one who has your favorite premise, they are both awesome games you should play!
Thanks for this video bro I'm trying to decide which one to get today!!
My pleasure dude. Really hope the video helped you reach a conclusion!

Well done m8! Thx for the vid

Hellpoint is awesome and underrated.
lol remember the days when it was Bloodborne vs Dark Souls 3?
@@skog9944 u never forget that first ever cleric beast fight
Hellpoint is the most underrated Souls-Like EVER.
They both look right up my alley, now it's just a matter of finding the time for both lol
I was able to get to final boss in mortal shell in like 6 hours shes fairly small
@@williamrussell8799 Good to know, thanks
Played both, but got more out of Hellpoint. Mortal shell is the setting I go for more, but the lack of character customisation for me, hurts it badly. I like a fast character, but with at least a decent bit of health, and I could not give Tiel the extra health I wanted to.
Hellpoint on the other hand made me rage at the bad platforming, but I continued on long enough to platinum it.
Hahaha yeah I can relate to the rage! The platforming was a real pain at times!... You're right about mortal shell too... Would really have enjoyed some more options to customise the gameplay. That said both games were great... Not perfect but both really good
@@Onos I agree they are both worth playing, and priced well for what they offer.
I got both. And both are unique with interesting mechanics and flaws. But overall good.
I have like both games for different reasons, but I enjoy Hellpoint’s overall game play much more.
Glad i foumd this channel, definately subbing.
I came into this SURE that I wanted Mortal Shell first. I was wrong of course, why else would I mention it?
Same
Awesome thanks for the info ⚔️
Hellpoint for me. I like the style and setting. I enjoyed game from the beginning, while Mortal Shell is very confusing for a new player
Yeah it was pretty confusing at first but after a couple of hours, it became a lot easier... Wasn't hard enough really once I got used to it!
don't forget the people making Hellpoint are also working on a Switch port
True... Shame they had to delay it but I respect that they wanted to make sure it was right before release
@@Onos i agree
I've got both. Still haven't fininshed hellpoint. My backlog is ridiculous. I have recently dove back into Skyrim with mods. Too many great games to play. Look forward to starting mortal shell.
Same issue for me! Too many games and not enough time... Its a nice problem to have though haha
@@Onos agreed. Adds variety.
My backlog is huge too. Skyrim was the first game I bought for my PC and I still barely got through the story. Modded the crap out of it though. Spent more time modding then playing lol.
Mortal Shell is just a Knights Of The Temple-like game more of a beat em up for me, Hellpoint is actually a souls-like game, both way too different, I kind of like both
go with The Surge 2))
Really enjoyed your comparison. The points you raised and your presentation style are spot on - subbed!
Does hellpoint suffer the issue of not being able to remember where you are? Like areas in The Surge?
Yeah pretty much. I had that problem in both Hellpoint AND mortal shell 😂
Level design intricacy is not subjective.
@@asgoritolinasgoritolino7708 preference for it is.
If they added 10 shells and better enemies then i would favour mortal shell over hellpoint.
Great video. Well-reasoned and didn't leave anything out.
Thank you! I tend to think about things far too much 😂😂
@@Onos Same. Just wish I had enough money for both games :{{{
Both are good Dark Souls clones. Mortal Shell looks damn good for an indie/double A game, but I personally enjoyed Hellpoint a bit more.
i´d say mortal shell is more of dark souls (methodical and calculated combat) and Hellpoint is more of a bloodborne clone (reactionary and aggressive combat).
Suspect I'll be publishing footage of me sucking at it 😂
I was looking for a video like this as I’m not sure which one to play.
My pleasure! I hope you found it helpful... I hate that feeling.. The indecision!
Man I want that dagger in Hellpoint.
Hey brother... Check out my Hellpoint playlist... There is a video in there to show you where yo get it
@@Onos thx
you got a sub literally the momenti. heard your voice
Just bought both, downloading Tonight then play after work tomorrow night. Votes on which one I play first?
Hahaha no way I'm voting... I over-thought the question and now I've got about 100 reasons for each one 😂😂
As someone who hates slow/heavy games, and who never parries, or blocks, I found Mortal Shell unplayable. Hellpoint took a lot of getting used to, but I ended up really enjoying it.
Mortal shell ❤️❤️ Hellpoint ❤️❤️❤️
Hellpoint is far superior for exploration, secrets, loot. Mortal Shell has superior combat mechanics but a boring world to explore.
Hellpoint was an exploration game imo.
Good vid.
Thanks for the comment. Hope you found it useful!
@@Onos Joining forces would be ideal! But Mortal Shell has a small team too, though it was bolstered by help from at least one other external studio.
Hellpoint looks like it plays "faster" if that makes any sense. Mortal Shell maintains the "sluggish" nature of the souls genre. Hellpoint is more like the old school legacy of kain Soul Reaver games.
Hellpoint is better
Hellpoint for sure. I find it hard to enjoy mortal shell meanwhile I lose time exploring etc when playing hellpoint
Al right I am gonna be honest and i am gonna say for some reason these are some of the shortest game lenghts I seen a souls like have.
If what I read is accurate then Mortal Shell was made by a team of 12, and Hellpoint by a team of 15. Or maybe it's the other way around. ☺ Hopefully they both sell well enough to justify sequels from bigger teams.
Mortal Shell is Awesome an Mechanically is superior NEVERTHELESS Hellpoint if u stick with it does get satisfying .....
For me Hellpoint is better. But Mortal Shell has definitely better graphics. Is way more polishes in my opnion.
Hellpoint would be better than already is if they also added more life to the game, more dialogues, cutscenes and it didnt take too long to connect to some other players.
how did you beat the twin bosses with the lantern they gank me and kill me in 2 hits
@@kevo300 I havent actually 😂😂😂
I stopped playing the gamealthough (I love Hellpoint) because of those mf.
The game is installed but in stand by hehe
I thought about asking for help but I stook 3h and NO ONE was online at the time.
I got to the secret boss in Hellpoint. And stopped playing. The final secret boss has some very jank hit boxes and I just got to frustrated.
Hellpoint for me is far more complex and polished when one gives it a try. Better combat, character build, far more better level complexity. The 'atmosfear' grabbed me by the balls very quickly and I'm glad the fascination has not stopped since.
I agree Gary. On face value it's not a contender... But give it half a chance and its just awesome
Which one would you recommend to someone who has never played a souls game?
@@Onos fingers crossed lol but can't wait to see more games from them

Hellpoint by far
