Story of my life. Sometimes I wish I had bought a steam deck…until I realize I’d probably never put it down because of all the amazing games that I’m unable to play on my switch. 🥲
Hey, dev here! Thank you for giving GRIME a shot despite the long wait for the port! :) I'm glad to hear that a lot of the positives brought up in your review are newer additions that were added/fixed in post launch thanks to feedback. The map dotted lines for example were added in CoR.

I like the way Pam takes her time to analyze everything that a game has to offer to the players. The story and mechanics. So compelling, and intriguing. A job well done 👍
Not sure how this one escaped my radar, but it looks awesome! Thanks for highlighting it. Went immediately on the Steam wishlist, and I'll have to check into the console versions.
You should mention the increasing difficulty and new attacks/mechanics added in each NG+ Cycle! Man , i really loved the game on my 1st playthrough and then on my 1st NG+ my love SKYROCKETED! It's just jaw dropping how you become shocked when you see a specific boss having new attacks and then a 3rd phase on NG+. Kudos ! :D
I cannot understand how I didn't know about this game before ! Thanks so much for this discovery, the game is so beautiful and seems really unique. I will play it with pleasure. It's awesome to see many metroidvania games and the fact that quite a lot are good.
You definitely have an amazing way of looking at the games you review!! Always giving a very good description of the game plus the pros and cons of games. Your attention to detail is always flawless. Also you always look amazing Pam !! Another great video and can't wait for the next one
Oh shoot! Pam! I just stumbled upon this video. I'm so glad you reviewed this title. It's one that's quite close to my heart. Thank you for your kind words.
Really loved the aesthetic of this one, and was pleasantly surprised just how many different ways you could approach encounters. Great to see the newer additions improved it even further!
The new additions are great. And I tend to get stuck on one set of weapons, there are a few types I never even tried that I'm sure give even more options.
Is there a lot of choices? I hate having to parry all the time, and the parry animation is long. I held off for a long time but thought I would give it a try but it felt too parry- centric.
Uhg! I'm an old school gamer, what happened to the glory days when all you had was a square block as your "guy" and a maze to run around in? Now that's -pod racing- gaming!!
I’m a big fan of Grime. I normally don’t platinum games unless I love them and Grime I got the trophy. I have never beaten a game that at time I thought was hopelessly impossible only to find that gameplay pattern to unlock the puzzle.
First time seeing your content. Liked and subscribed! I have played this game and I thought your analysis was spot on! I will say that I was playing on a PC and the keyboard and mouse controls worked well also. It's just unfortunate for me that I am not as good at these games as you are as I have not yet been able to complete the game 😀
Good review. Going through the game again after the "Tinge Of Terror" DLC has been released. It adds a long awaited New Game+ option. Enemies and bosses are more agressive and have more moves (one certain boss has even 3 phases now, and it's not the final boss, which I haven't reached yet). You keep all abilities, weapons and traits with upgrades, which can be upgraded to higher levels and can make traversing the game world al lot easier.
I'm going to have to give this one another go. Got a little frustrated with the game and stopped playing, but your review is making me what to come back to it. You did a great job breaking it all down and I can see that the game really opens up and gets more interesting later on.
Thanks for the great review! I wistlisted it, will wait months for a good sale, then finally play it years later after clearing everything else in my backlog 😄
I’m about 3/4 through this game; I love it so far, it’s been great. I will say though that I got more lost in this game then other Metroidvanias. The map is blacked out until you find the area beacon, and they can be a little tough to find, so you can spend a large portion of your playthrough essentially with no map. This isn’t deal breaking by any means, it just makes the comfort curve a little steeper, but once you get far enough and familiar enough with the map and get your beacons, you feel satisfied and rewarded

Hi, Pam! Thank you, I had considered to get this game but never saw a review that actually told me whether it was the right game to me or not (not if it was good or bad). That's what I like about your reviews, you explain in enough detail the game's main mechanics, gameplay and traits. And after watching this video, I know that yes, Grime is right for me. I'm a little scared of the hard platforming (my most hated part in metroidvanias; I get bored in games like Celeste or the DLC in Hollow Knight where you have to travel an area where you can't rest not make a single mistake, tunnel o pain or something) but I think I can do it. I will get it for PS4 next I buy games (I just purchased Wolfenstein: New Order, W: New Blood, 13 Sentinels and SOMA, I need to give my wallet a break).
SOMA is great, I turned off enemy damage. It ruined the atmosphere a bit so keep that in mind. Observer is a good so-fi walking sim/detective game that may be worth looking at.

I have ro ask, because after watching about 5 videos or so, your passion for icons of gaming intrigue me. If I may -- what do you consider your holy grail of your collection? I know it is obviously something epic. Mine would have to the beta, preview copy Super Famicom cart. 6 exist. Mine is number 3, bur what sets it apart is that it was signed by none other than Masato Kato, story writer of Chrono Trigger and mentor to Tetsuya Nomura, who also signed it. Two years later, through my friend Jeffeey LeBeau who worked at Square Pictures Honolulu on Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, I was able to have it signed by Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Kenji Ito, and finally Akira Toriyama. My copy of Earthbound, unopened w/ the t-shirt and guide, was scored as 5/5 preseevation by the Gaming Collectors Association of the ESRB. They do this for elite collectors who auction rare games for sale of charity. The beta copy of Chrono Trigger, signed by the entire team, they literally scored as "N/A", aka priceless. Labeled simply as "Muesum Piece', officially. 1 of 4 pieces labeled as such, with one being the Nintendo Playstation Disc Prototype Console, by another collector, and another being the Nintendo Championship Challenge cartridge, 1 of 2, made only for the Nintendo Spaceworld Competition, Osaka Japan. The Danish gentleman who owns it literally acquired it in private action, signed by Shigeru Miyamoto himself. He wouldn't sell it, and I guess you could practically buy a home with it, as it's value is akin to a mint Action Comics, Superman Issue #1. Talk about the big leagues. Maybe we could even do a little video to show these things off for fun, for your channel and the gaming community as a whole. I'd do it simply based on your top 100 games video series alone, because your taste was so impeccable. Never done it before. If interested, just send me a private message here, over YT. Or on my wife's YT, MercilesV, a fellow collector. It would make one hell of a video. Both of us could say what's up over cam and show some historic artifacts of gaming. OK, that's all. Game on. From two gamers to another, from the Videogame Land of CaptainN's world, "Zeal" Brandon & "MercilessV" Veronica. God bless. 👍
And please excuse the auto correct spellcheck, messing shit up left and right. Sitting at a restaurant and typing on a phone together. Veronica said ask her. Peace.
Welcome to the channel! I don't know that I have a holy grail of my collection. I just collect games I like or want to play, I don't go for special editions or rare things.
I have it installed on my PC but haven't played it yet (!) Your review makes me feel guilty about that now... but wait, that was Blasphemous where you have to expiate your guilt. Never mind. Anyway, I think you get a good feel for the game, from the game play shown here and I know I will normally enjoy this kind of thing. Even though it still doesn't quite grab me as an outstanding metroidvania but hey, I could be wrong about that. Nice to hear the developers were able to improve the game quite a bit by listening to the feedback. The dotted lines to mark my usual aimless wandering about could prove very useful.
Another one I picked up but haven't finished yet! I got to the boss inside the big cathedral place, up at the very top and I was just so worked over, I really need to re-analyze my powers and abilities if I have any hope of finishing that boss. Had to take a break, but it's still installed. BTW - I just discovered your channel and really enjoy the pacing and content of your reviews, and I enjoy your subtle sense of humor.
Thanks for reviewing this game! I can't stand it when I hear souls like, I despise most of these games despite having played and beat the original! I have been playing videogames since they were invented and having been around for 6+ decades I don't have the patience for these types of games (I guess Dead Cells is my exception) anymore so when I hear Souls like I avoid at all cost, but I will give this one a chance (if on sale) thanks to your review! Was interested in it when I first saw it but then heard the dreaded S word and was done till now! One last word Bloodborne would've probably been my favorite game ever had it just been an action adventure instead of SL I wish developers would get over this!
this is free on playstation plus extra right now, so I downloaded it based on nothing but the artwork. went looking for reviews and of course found it here as it's a metroidvania. pretty fun game so far. i know it's supposedly "souls like" but I beat the first boss in this after only about 6 or 7 tries, so it's obviously not souls-like at all ... as I can never kill ANY bosses in any souls games ever no matter how many tries.
Huh, did you only recently get that ink on your left forearm? Never noticed it before! I don't think I could get over not being able to use the d-pad for movement, unfortunately.
This has a template style of similar 2D games lately. I can't remember if I saw this as a preview, I may be thinking of something else. If one is to go this route of template 2D, then it has to showcase other elements that stand out from too similar. It feels like a hack & slash, but you give a more inn depth review of the mechanics. I wouldn't say innovative but it's artistic and probably has some interesting difficulty, gameplay learning curves to platforming logic. I have a personal pet peeve to modern games these days if pushing new platforming games and don't incorporate the platforms with the background. One can also make the platforming logical than say assisting to help out the character. It's an off beat that resides in retro and can live in the new retro catering to nostalgia, but I think in newer games, designers need to think more critically about platforming. Some new games actually do this well. I'll have to say I'm not that interested in playing it, but may give it a try. Cool video video as usual though.
@@krisfrederick5001 Thanks, same to you. I was just riffing on your grunge observation. I have yet to play this game but maybe some Soundgarden would improve it? Valfaris is a cool somewhat similarly styled game with metal music.
I said this was available on all consoles, but the Switch port has not released yet.
That's typical

No problem! I really liked it when it first came out for PC and the console port and all the improvements made are great.
I’m not a huge fan of stamina bars.
I know it is supposed to make combat more deliberate. I just find it slows things down.

I'm a child of the 80s, and you absolutely sound like you came from that golden age, like me.
When were owning shit up like Sol Divide, Grandia, AZEL: Panzer Dragoon RPG, Princess Crown, Elevator Action Returns, Dragon Force, Lunar S.S.S., Ikaruga, Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Earth, Rondo of Blood, Castlevania: SoTN, Phantasy Star Online, all of the Shin Megami Tensei games and spin-offs. I could go on forever.
You are definitely from the golden age of the hard-core. Let us teach the next-generation our lost arts of pro gaming. One day, they might even be ready for *does the sign of the cross* Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, and Xenogears. *angelic choir ends* lol.
Subbed.
*throws down wine glass of blood.* Allow me to at least formally introduce myself on this burner account, madam of the old ways.

(I was one of them, with the legendary Barubary. Yuji Naka found it hilarious and was a good sport. We were simply interviewed to finally admit how we manipulated PSO with the broadband adaptor live, and with telnet. Walking through walls, player kill code, item generation code, and code injection to change into Sonic, Dr. EGGMAN, Tales, etc. Hilarious, if you can find one of the scans still going around.)
*humble bow* game on, mam.
Teach the younger generation our ways.
Game on.

God bless.
The changes around exploration and travel were really good, I'm glad they implemented them.
Thanks so much and welcome to the channel!
Awesome
this is free on playstation plus extra right now, so I downloaded it based on nothing but the artwork. went looking for reviews and of course found it here as it's a metroidvania. pretty fun game so far. i know it's supposedly "souls like" but I beat the first boss in this after only about 6 or 7 tries, so it's obviously not souls-like at all ... as I can never kill ANY bosses in any souls games ever no matter how many tries.
Everything mechanically about this game is Soulslike. One of the few metroidvanias where that description actually applies.
If Pam likes it, I like it.
❤❤❤
Nice looking game
The game looks good.
Huh, did you only recently get that ink on your left forearm? Never noticed it before!
I don't think I could get over not being able to use the d-pad for movement, unfortunately.
Yeah, just got it a few weeks ago, I talked about it a bit in one of my latest update videos.
Finally, a game with teeth!
I also experienced similar bugs on Steam.
Really nice graphics, but stiff looking movements, I hope it gets more fluid as it progresses
what does colors of rot add?
Hi I'm Brenton and I'm hear to listen to Pam talk about video games.
Hi Brenton!
Grime...not to be confused with Grunge. Rock people 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Or the EDM genre Grime or even the artist known as Grimes (Claire Boucher from Canada).
@@OperationPhantom Yeah, that's beyond me but I appreciate you.
@@krisfrederick5001 Thanks, same to you. I was just riffing on your grunge observation. I have yet to play this game but maybe some Soundgarden would improve it?
Valfaris is a cool somewhat similarly styled game with metal music.
I just want Blasphemous 2 & The Last Faith as my next metroidvania games. 😢
