Hey Rob, Since you said the lyrics were going over your head, I put them below. It's about a guy who thought this girl was a girlfriend, but was just playing him and everyone knew that. It's basically just telling her "I found out about you". lyrics below. "All last summer in case you don't recall I was yours and you were mine forget it all Is there a line that I could write That's sad enough to make you cry? And all the lines you wrote to me were lies Months roll past, the love that you struck dead Did you love me only in my head? There were things you said and did to me They seem to come so easily The love I thought I'd won you give for free Whispers at the bus stop Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard I found out about you I found out about you Rumors follow everywhere you go Like when you left and I was last to know Well you're famous now and there's no doubt In all the places you hang out They know your name and they know what you're about Whispers at the bus stop Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard I found out about you I found out about you Street lights blink on through the car window I get the time too often on AM radio Well you know it's all I think about I write your name, drive past your house Your boyfriend's over, I watch your lights go out Whispers at the bus stop Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard I found out about you I found out about you Whispers at the bus stop Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard I found out about you I found out about you I found about you"
I think the actual meaning is hidden. The young girl in the song is having her life destroyed by a vicious rumor being spread by immature school kids, and the protagonist, also an immature kid, is falling for it. It's a tale as old as time.
Yep, even when it's a dance beat. It evokes for me all of those lost weekends, brief friendships, short term love affairs, workplace tensions, familial pressures, and how this music played like a soundtrack throughout.

The Gin Blossoms were hired to play a show in June or July of 2013 by a company I was working for in San Diego. It was a pretty cool experience and they sounded great. The company had built a nice outdoor amphitheater and the Blossoms played for employees and families.
Analysis This song lyrics depict a narrative of unrequited love, betrayal, and longing. The speaker reflects on a past relationship where they were deeply invested, but ultimately deceived by their partner. The recurring motif of "whispers at the bus stop" and "nights out in the school yard" suggests a small town setting where rumors spread easily, intensifying the sense of isolation and disillusionment. The lyrics convey a mixture of sadness, bitterness, and obsession as the speaker grapples with the painful realization of their partner's deceit and their own lingering feelings.
Gin Blossoms are one of those bands that has such a nostalgic sound in my mind. They take me right back to that era. ‘Til I Hear It From You’ is another song that does that for me.
I absolutely love this song and never get tired of it. The music is fabulous. I love how it transitions from a gentle, easy sound to a rocking, powerful guitar sound, which matches the mood of the lyrics. The singer does the same thing with his voice. Too bad you didn't feel this song, Jay. It is a guy singing about the heartache and pain of betrayal.
Until I Fall Away is more subtle song but one of their best. Found Out About You is a song of lost love blended with the dark pain that is left over. His first love becomes more popular, changes and she's the talk of the school only adding to his pain. This song always churns up my old high school heartache memories.lol

Gin Blossoms were one of those 90's bands that might be considered "soft grunge" where they have many of the elements of the 90's core sounds but with their own vibe. Many 90's groups played with a pop folk sound with a grunge-like flavor, such as Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Spin Doctors, Alannis Morrisette, Creed, etc. There were so many.
I have seen this band three times. The last time this past year. The first song I learned on guitar Found Out About You. I love them and their writing. I have New Miserable Experience on repeat.

Being a huge Gin Blossoms fan for almost 30 years, I hate to suggest one of their more successful mainstream songs, but definitely "Follow You Down" is a good definitive song of their chart potential. I guess the history of them with Doug Hopkins and those haunting 9th notes in their vocal harmonies made me a forever fan. Keep up the good vibes!
A+J "Dusted" off this old song to react to, and for J the first half the song was a "New Miserable Experience" but by the end he came around and to the Gin Blossoms he said "Congratulations… I'm Sorry", it was a real "Mixed Reality" for J during this song, parts of it he thought hey it's "No Chocolate Cake" but it ultimately works so consider it a "Major Lodge Victory". #iykyk

Is there a line that I could write
That's sad enough to make you cry?
And all the lines you wrote to me were lies
Months roll past, the love that you struck dead
Did you love me only in my head?
There were things you said and did to me
They seem to come so easily
The love I thought I'd won you give for free
Whispers at the bus stop
Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you
Rumors follow everywhere you go
Like when you left and I was last to know
Well you're famous now and there's no doubt
In all the places you hang out
They know your name and they know what you're about
Whispers at the bus stop
Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you
Street lights blink on through the car window
I get the time too often on AM radio
Well you know it's all I think about
I write your name, drive past your house
Your boyfriend's over, I watch your lights go out
Whispers at the bus stop
Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you
Whispers at the bus stop
Well I've heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you
I found about you"

Great song, I'm suggesting 3 iconic 90's songs, 2 of them you must have heard on tv or in a movie: "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind ; "Closing Time" by Semisonc ; and
"The Distance" by Cake . They are new bands for you, the people want first time reactions! 😁
I know it wasn't as popular, but I'd like to add "Secret Smile" by Semisonic.
Another shout out for "Closing Time" by Semisonic.
The Gin Blossoms are one of my favorite bands from the 90s! They have so many hits its hard to name just a few. Another 90s banger is Hum - Stars. Thats a definite must review! You'll love it!
Such a great 90's band
Vocals as instrument! Excellent harmonies!
The singer guest tours with the Smithereens quite often. Should play a song by them, “Behind the Wall of Sleep or A Girl Like You”
“Lost Horizons” by them is, in my opinion, their best overall song. “Hey Jealousy” is just an all out 90’s classic/staple.
Yeah, give this a couple listens & you’ll be hooked. Maybe read the lyrics, too!! Love this one!!
Gin Blossom is an awesome band from the 90s you definitely gotta do more
I love this song by them. You'll probably like "Follow you down" more. That one is also great.
This is literally a perfect song
A+J "Dusted" off this old song to react to, and for J the first half the song was a "New Miserable Experience" but by the end he came around and to the Gin Blossoms he said "Congratulations… I'm Sorry", it was a real "Mixed Reality" for J during this song, parts of it he thought hey it's "No Chocolate Cake" but it ultimately works so consider it a "Major Lodge Victory". #iykyk
