I am subscribed to several reaction channels, and I do believe you are the first one to do a Gin Blossoms song. Thank you, Harri. They are one of my favorite bands. May I recommend their song "Allison Road."
There isn’t a bad song on the album this song is originally from. New Miserable Experience. The sound is reminiscent of the Byrds filtered through R.E.M.
Very under-rated group, a highlight of the ‘90s. Had a string of hits that started with “Till I Hear It From You.” Nice to see their debut on Harri’s channel. Thanks Neal and Harri!
Just for the record, their multi-platinum hit record New Miserable Experience came out in 1992. This is where almost all of their hits came from Till I Hear it From You came out in 1995 on the Empire Records soundtrack
Thank you, Harri...nice to see you digging the Gin Blossoms. Thanks for reacting to it! Sadly, their co-founder and lead guitarist, Doug Hopkins, had suffered from chronic depression his entire life and he battled alcoholism. He became despondent after the bands success and the acclaim they were receiving. After receiving a Gold record for their #1 hit, "Hey Jealousy", he hung it up on a wall. Two weeks later he took it down and destroyed it, and nine days later he purchased a .38 caliber pistol. On December 5, 1993. Hopkins used it to take his own life. He was only 32-years-old.
Besides Fleetwood and Lenord Skynard song def leapord an all these r good songs rocking roll wise we love e=a hate eachother let the love over rid the hate have a good night
@@Profitglutton90 Yes, Hopkins wrote it as well. Such a talent and gone just like that! Too damn sad. All the best... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Found_Out_About_You
There is something about the lead singer's voice that especially appeals to me. The voice is similar to Snow Patrol and "Chasing Cars". Many great songs from this group. Next?: "Follow You Down".
The genius of this song is how “joyful” the music itself is - yet how somber and sad the subject matter and lyrics are. That was the brilliance of Doug Hopkins. He was one of the all-time great American songwriters, right up there with Westerberg and Petty.
Song is one of the best from that era and is still on my staylist of songs that gets played very regularly. The subject matter, the tone, production, instruments, style..... can't say enough.
Hi Harry, I'm from a place called Tempe in Arizona and I know all the guys. The original Guitar Player, Doug Hopkins, sadly committed suicide after he was kicked out of the band because of alcoholism. He wrote all there songs and many of them involved his girl friend Sandra Quijas
Pncombies ..reminded about what happened sadly to a young man who like so many deal with mental illness and substance abuse. It is so sad, I truly think like so many great artists before us that this band had so much more for us all to enjoy, so refreshing Harry that your bringing back some great memories of all these 90's bands that I saw in my 20's
One of my fav 90s bands... These guys, along with Matthew Sweet, Dave Matthews, John Hiatt, BoDeans, The Connells, James McMurtry, Lyle Lovett, & The Cruel Sea, were the "new" bands that got me through the 80s and 90s...
Saw them live as part of a 10 band day-long concert in Barrie Ontario. Among the fresh talent, they were one of the standouts. Another notable newby that day was Jewel.
Robin Wilson during his heyday was one of the best, most under appreciated singers in rock. And Doug was a once in a generation songwriter…they were an incendiary band for a bunch of years. Glad that Jessie, Robin and Bill are still out there doing it
I saw that many have already mentioned Doug Hopkins, the band’s founder and lead guitarist who was kicked out for his problems. He wrote not just the lyrics but every musical part, the guitars, drums, and even parts for horns and mandolin. He was a brilliant writer and I highly recommend looking at more of his music. Hey Jealousy is my favorite song of all time, but Lost Horizons, Hold Me Down, and Pieces of the Night are all beautiful as well. There are also plenty on their album Dusted, and he had two other bands with great work by him.
I forgot all about this song, even tho I really liked it when it was out!! Couldn't have said who did it or the title, but I'm so glad you reacted to it --now I gotta add it to my collection. As always, enjoyed the heck out of your reaction. Very best to you!
I have always loved this song. Listened to this in the 90's alot. Watched the official music video so many times and still love it till this day. Check out the music video.
Them and the Refreshments formed the Tempe sound out of Tempe Arizona. You should give the Refreshments a listen, very eclectic, they are now Roger Cline and the Peacemakers.
How did I miss this? Indeed it was sad. He wrote another big hit for them called "Hey Jealousy". It's on my playlist. I always go back and look for new comments to respond when appropriate. Thanks, sis! ❤
Another great 90s pick for the day. Loved the Gin Blossoms. I’ve really enjoyed your reactions today and appreciate that you’re willing to listen to music without videos.
It's always cool to see Harri's reactions to songs i've selected. The original videos are provided to You Tube by the hosting service VEVO most of the time. Although they have millions of views, they're blocked if Harri tries to react to their vids. As a patron who selects songs for Harri to react to, I avoid VEVO. The two songs I selected that Harri reacted to today had the required 200K views and were good quality. I look for remastered audio versions and I've selected a few quality live versions of songs this past year.
Great choice!!!!! Check out Fleet Foxes, Houndmouth, Golden Palominos, and Innocence Mission...other Jangle Pop bands, named after the jingle jangle sound of the Byrds. I think my assessment is close to correct. I too LOVE that sound and vibe. Reminds me of the '60s.
Kind of like how Sam Roberts is popular in Canada and virtually nowhere else, I think the Gin Blossoms are the same in North America with little to know appeal outside of the continent.
So, why don't you?? I mean, learn to play the guitar. Never too late, you know. It's really fun, been playing for many years myself. Rithme guitar is my thing, and i can tell you, this song is'nt easy to play. The Cure has some songs like this (Friday i'm in love), it sounds easy, but it is'nt. So, Harri, buy a good guitar and start practicing. Thanks for this one. 👍😁👊🎸
Absolutely! I bought my first guitar in my late 30's almost 30 years ago (I learned piano as a kid), and mostly taught myself - made some progress, and about 5 years ago decided to take lessons. So happy I did...I'm "pretty ok" now, play every day and have written about a dozen songs. Some of 'em don't suck. 🙂. For someone who enjoys music as much as you do, I'll bet you'd pick it up quickly. Give it a shot!
