RIP Doug ..the man the legend ..just want able to get his life together ..his writing his legacy..he was the Gin Blossoms..
Amazing song writer. RiP
Yeah, since he committed suicide after this band kicked him out.
@SiberianSoldier Were they supposed to allow his out of control drug addiction and "depression" hold them back?
@@SiberianSoldier The label kicked him out, the band didn't want to.
Aside from all the grunge bands, Gin Blossoms are the official sound of the 90’s.
THE SOUND of the 90’s
"Hey Jealousy" is the MOST 90s song. I don't mean "Best". I mean it tells the story of the whole decade in one song. From the history of how it came to be (Doug wrote it) to cheerful sound that has some truly depressing lyrics.
Absolutely
Collective soul and hootie too for me
I blast their songs in the car and sing along loud as possible haha. This one is my fave. RIP Doug Hopkins
Doug Hopkins’ guitar playing was phenomenal.
Only became a success based off that guy being on elitist hit list.
This song is beautifully haunting to everyone that can relate.
One of the most underrated bands of the 90's.
what is it about these chords , so simple, yet so emotionally impact-full: this song grabbed me so much so that I played it over & over after first hearing it....thank you Robin Wilson, RIP Doug Hopkins
I was born 😢in 1978 so this was my anthem for those teenage relationships that just don't work out.
yeah... always struck a chord whenever i hear this song .. but fond memories nonetheless ;)
This song wasn't even around in 1978..
@@SiberianSoldier he literally was saying teenage relationships which means that he was a teenager when this song came out during the 90's.
Wow. He takes an already great song and makes it so much more sad, lonely, mournful, and melancholy. I like this better than the original.
Well said.
Listening to this song transports me to my old bedroom at my parent's house. I was getting ready for school and hearing this song on the radio. 💗I am 41 now, and this song always take me back to that moment.
Wow! Well said. Me too!
Greatest band of the 90’s
I saw them in 1991 when I was in college and still love them now!
😂😂😂😂 not even close!
@@justincredible214 I'd say Pearl Jam . . . followed by Oasis
I'd take New Miserable Experience over anything of the 90s including Nevermind, both albums of Oasis, and without question over Ten.
Wore this cd out and STP Purple in that era
Still the pinnacle of music that year and easily one of the top 10 songs ever.
one of my favorite hooks ever "whispers at the bus stop"
I’ve owned this awesome album on cassette, cd and I downloaded it. Never gets old. Thanks, Robin and RIP Doug.
Wish I could find it on vinyl
@@erickeller865 Right!?
I remember back in the day, Blossoms had one after another new songs on the radio, you couldn’t escape them. It was cool though.
Dude this guys voice is untouched!! He must have taken care of it, its really not easy to hit those notes after 35 years
Honestly sounds a lot more nasal than the album version. Doesn't sound like he's hitting the notes with his diaphragm. Which is understandable.
Class of '94 here. Few songs take me back to my senior year of high school like this one. What a great time.
The acoustic version of a song I didn’t know I needed! 🥰👌
At least its not techno talking.
10 thumbs up!
He still sounds amazing! Oh how I miss the 90s and my childhood!
Remember buying the cassette in '93. Its just a beautiful album. Listening 30 years later. '23
I love Robin Wilson's voice! It's sweet but strong and has this vulnerability to it. He still sounds fantastic! ❤
Beautiful, there’s just something about an acoustic version of a song 🥺💜🤟🏻
Fkn loved this song since I first
Heard it in mtv or vh1 back in 1994
This hits deep. Lyrics and emotion are straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Poured his heart out all over the stage. Great performance. Very emotionally charged.
Wow...great soulful vocals...u can really hear the poetry of those lyrics! Thanx!
CHILLS, still one of the best bands
Chills - and yes a great band.
I have been listening to alot of GB lately. This album is a classic
Glad he sings at full power. Some singers tune down on live accoustic performances.
This is the musical penthouse ! It just doesn’t get any better than this for me. Sure, there are others in the penthouse, lots of talented people. But there aren’t any higher floors. You’ve reached the top. Song hits me in my soul. Music is such a powerful vessel. Found about youuuuuu !
I really love this band and his voice is still beautiful.
Was my favorite song when I was 14 and romantic! Great memories…cheers!!!
that album was / is just amazing all the songs
These lyrics are just so good
🙏🏼 forget itttttt alllllllllll
Such a brilliant song. Amazing lyrics. Beautiful musical composition. This is my new guitar goal.
Went through something similar in high school with my first major crush. Can totally relate to this song.
Unbelievable! Robin made an already great song so simple and yet so powerful.
if any song can be equated to perfection, this song is it....kills the soul, but keeps you singing nevertheless...perfect lyrics, capturing the deep emotion this song reaches...thanks Gin Blossoms, thanks Robin Wilson, thanks Doug Hopkins (RIP brother)...
🎶 *Nights out in the schoolyard!* 🎶
🚸👩🏻🏫🏫
Omg THANKS SOOOO MUCH!! Blessed be, Gin Blossoms!! The Force is always with you!
No words to describe how amazing this is! ❤️
Damn, that was awesome!
FOUND OUT THIS CLASSIC WAS PLAYING 🥰
This was an absolute treat . Thank you Robin
So much sorrow...I just can't take it 😣
New appreciation for one of my long time favorite songs
Wow! That was beautiful. It's a beautiful song to begin with but they hear like that
Legend right there true fucking legend. Mad respect
He's still got it.
Phenomenal 🔥
Was, and still is a beautiful song!
Great song. Nice to finally hear all the lyrics.
I love this song
Love this song .
jesus his voice is angels
Doug’s solo made this song.
I like him solo.
Phenomenal rendition of an all time classic. Outstanding!
Can't wait for Sunday. Barenaked Ladies and Toad will complete the jam
Still playing this song.
Awesome version!!!
Very beautiful version of a song I already was
a fan of,this song hits hard in so many ways
Los amoooo❤❤❤❤❤ cariños desde Chile 🇨🇱
This song came out when I found out that the love of my teenage life cheated on me. I'm 47 years old now, the song still cuts the same.
Great song
Sound great.... amazing song.
Gin blossoms and live the two best bands of the 90.s
Still as haunting now 2023 as it was 30 years ago at the Coach House. Still, it's such a tragedy and a travesty that they couldn't find a way to make it work and keep Doug and help him to himself to get over his ills.
Woah amazing
I've always thought about Toad the West Sprocket when thinking about or listening to the Gin Blossoms.
JFC he hasn't lost one iota of his voice. Awesomeness performance
Doug Hopkins still lives!
Amazing
Awesome!
내최애밴드
Awesome ✌️
Great example of coming up with great melody over a simple picking pattern.
Great music
👌Fabulous!!!!!❤❤❤
This is almost a message from Doug to his band mates. From the afterlife. Karmic.
Oh Doug…😩
great lyrics, that can clearly hear.
They need this to be a single.
Very nice....
Damn, nice chops
This song takes on a different meaning being played this way.
A history lesson for anyone interested:
Doug Hopkins, a co-founder and the primary songwriter of Gin Blossoms, was suffering from depression and subsequent alcoholism, which got worse once the songs he wrote (this one and Hey Jealousy, specifically) started blowing up and the band got more exposure. Instead of helping their bandmate and friend, the other members refused to continue working with him, fired and replaced him, and refused to give Hopkins $15,000 of withheld earnings unless he signed a majority of his royalties away. He signed his rights away, hopped around the Tempe, AZ music scene for a while, before taking his own life in 1993.
There’s a reason why these old Gin Blossoms songs have so much more weight to them, as opposed to their more recent pop-infused releases. The remaining members should be ashamed. That is not how you treat a bandmate and the main reason for your success.
RIP Doug Hopkins, you were a legend and deserved much better than you were given.
Excellent Job!!!! Peace! Musician/Artist USA- ThomMeinert
👏👏👏👏
Heart rending acoustic rendition…
Wow
🙂
When did Alton Brown start singing?
Good Eats! I know the resemblance is crazy. I recently went to see them with my daughter and thats when it hit me that we are all truly old now. That was the first thing I thought when he step on stage....what happened to the cute boy with the backwards hat in the Hey Jealousy video....😭
@@hovermo74 old age came out of nowhere that's for sure.
I play rest.
声だけで聴かせるねえ😮
I don't know how they manage to play this song after what they did to the guy who wrote it, Doug Hopkins.
🤫
Donnie says vacuum.
If you're listening to Robin Wilson and the Gin Blossoms in 2024, you're a legend!! Cheers!!🎸
Let’s not ever forget what A&M did to Doug.
What did they do?
@@kevinc8364 It's always pissed me off the way the label treated Doug Hopkins. After they fired him because he was "incapable of playing", they withheld $15000 they owed him until he agreed to sign over half of his publishing royalties! On top of that, they forced him to sign over his mechanical royalties to his replacement, Scott Johnson. He was forced to do it because of his financial situation at the time. A royal screwing. One of the last times they saw each other, Robin Wilson said hello, and Hopkins answered by punching Wilson in the face. He should have kicked him too.

I enjoyed them and Better than Ezra more then Nirvana and Pearl Jam back in that time...
Such a shame Doug took his life. If it wasn’t for him none of their well known songs wouldn’t even exist…
