    Couple of guys in my team run the RSR rig and the team is sponsored by them. They are incredible pieces of engineering and look stunning when built. They are, as the company suggests in its name, utterly rock solid. The thing weighs a ton. If you're looking for something different and perhaps less.. utilitarian and more furnituresque, this is the rig for you.

  • @GUN69_
    @GUN69_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If I had a log cabin in Swiss mountains, that would be a perfect addition to it 😃it does look impressive to be honest. When I saw it at the beginning of the video, I thought it might be a bad idea to use wood. Looks way more rigid than I anticipated. Additionally, there seem to be some extra benefits - like getting extra drills would be way easier than in the aluminum base plates. I believe to a certain degree that would allow drilling in the cockpit itself as well. Second interesting part would be the custom paints - aluminum extrusions go mostly silver or black where with the wood and paint sky is the limit. There are also 2 things which I am wondering: first is the longevity of wood and how long could such rig actually last. The other thing is the humidity and if could that play any role in the rig getting smaller / bigger. I have wooden planks in the garden fence and depending on the weather it is noticeable that in certain conditions it gets gaps in between it when the wood shrinks. Of course these are different circumstances as the wood is outside to the outdoor conditions but it made me wonder if months where the humidity is higher/lower could affect the small holes and drills in any way.

    Nice review, I like the design but was ready to dump on it a bit just for the cost - that would have been hasty! Seems a fairly easy design to create a poor mans DIY copy so went looking at material costs. If its truly using birch throughout plywood, and assuming for a DIY copy design you would need two sheets, that looks like it will set you back around £250 before you factor in other hardware.
    I wonder how it would do as a light(er) weight base for a motion rig. It doesn't look like it would have enough torsional stiffness to resist twist but could be wrong!

    Yay, cat person! I've heard quite a few people brag about how rigid their homemade wooden rigs are. I believe them all. It's the adjustability that's the problem. Every connection point is a weak spot. Let's face it, 15 or 20nm isn't a whole lot of torque, when you think about it, being applied to any solid piece of aluminum, steel or wood. I had to put 80 ft lbs on every Honda lug nut I reinstalled. With that being said, when it comes to tolerances, it's far easier and less expensive to get a rigid pairing between two pieces of wood than it is with two pieces of metal. It just doesn't look as cool. I've watched too many reviews that show beautifully engineered metel rigs, that seemed to fall prey to loose fittings. That's not quite as important with wood being soft. They seem to have come up with an intelligent way of keeping the adjustability, and making use of its structural benefits with quality hardware. I could actually see this being the next big thing. It has a wow factor that's not quite as obvious from a distance. Up close it's a very interesting design. I'd have to stain it to match my furniture before I assembled it. Mount a drink holder. Maybe some artwork with the Dremel😅 Another great video my friend!

    Karl, in your opinion, would this rig be compatible with the Slip Angle Haptics kit? I know I want to go with the Slip Angle kit, but I'm worried how the transducers/springs would connect to this rig (and, if the wood would be as good as metal at transmitting the vibrations). 🫤
