- Das NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester spielt Wagners fast 15-stündigen "Ring des Nibelungen" in einer sinfonischen Synthese. Ein Klangfest für großes Orchester in der Elbphilharmonie. Es dirigiert Stefan Geiger.

Music will never die whilst we have brilliant young musicians like these continuing to emerge, exciting audiences the world over with such music as this. I've heard less successful performances from fully professional orchestras. This orchestra needs no caveats that it is essentially a student body ─ it can stand on it's own nearly 200 feet. Superb!
At the end of this beautiful concert the director was moving to tears: it's impossible to resist to such wonderful music. Thank you for your sensibility and perfect conducting.

Eine sinfonische Synthese des Rings ist für mich weitaus die beste Form, diesen aufzuführen. Das wirklich Wertvolle, nämlich die Musik, ist drin, und es gibt (zum Glück, wie ich meine) keine unnötigen Längen, keine Gesangsstimmen mit (unverständlichem) Text, keine seltsamen, teilweise infantilen Handlungen, und vor allem keine fragwürdigen Inszenierungen von Regisseuren, die glauben, sich dabei aufspielen zu müssen.

Fabulous! I just listened to Maazel conduct this very arrangement of his before this one came up. To be honest, I could tell no difference. Now, to be sure, I'm no musician, so someone in the field may tell me I'm full of mud, but for my experience, these kids did the job superbly. I have added this to my liked videos and subscribed to the orchestra. I wish I could tell them in person how much I enjoyed their performance.

The arranger or transcriber appears to have omitted leitmotifs of Erda and the Norns in Das Rheingold, all pivotal for the entire Ring Cycle IMO (#Hegel, #fate). Other than that, a great performance by very talented young people! Thanks for sharing!

well done but there were some notes skipped near the end of Gotterdammerung and the final note ended far too quickly.
"Wotans Abschied": Das Publikum starrt ins Nichts. Genau aus diesen Gründen begegne ich, auch wenn es für den Enthusiasten ein netter Zeitvertreib ist, einer symphonischen Aufführung des Rings oder Wagner Paraphrasen allgemein eher mit Skepsis. Ohne Drama auf der Bühne fehlt der emotionale Bezug und ich finde das sieht man dem Auditorium auch an. Wie kann es einem beim Finale des I. Aufzuges von Siegfried sonst kein Lächeln auskommen?
Den Gedanken können wir nachvollziehen!
Von den ganz wenigen einzelnen Zuhörern, die man sieht, auf "das Auditorium" zu schließen, ist fragwürdig. Ich wage die Behauptung, dass der Großteil der Anwesenden ergriffen zugehört hat.

Actually it's Wagner's orchestration. but Maazel's "abridgement" or "condensation", intruding as few of his own notes/instrumentation as possible to come up with this brilliant arrangement.
