Same here. My dad passed away in 2017. At the end of his cancer disease he asked my little brother to play the Tannhäuser Overtüre at his funeral on the organ because Wagner was his all time favourite composer. He did it with only 16 years of age. It's hard every time I listen to it.

I have spent a lot of my time during the lock down listening to this orchestra. A huge thank you for hours of great entertainment. The only trouble is I would rather spend my time doing this than go to work.
Mr. Orozco-Estrada is a superb conductor, so full of passion and enthusiasm. And the Orchestra is simply first rate, playing with equal passion and enthusiasm. Bravissimo to all.
Just breathtaking! I can't help breaking into tears at the final Pilgrim's Chorus. It's that ecstatic hymn of redemption at the core, surrounded by swirling flights of angels in the violins. Only next time louder angels, please.
I'm coming to this performance after watching a stirring performance of this piece by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan... also on TH-cam and obviously a very old video. This first thing that strikes me is women have been liberated! They now can sit in an orchestra playing instruments rather than sitting in the audience looking pretty and listening to men play this music. I have to tell the truth though that the von Karajan version was a more powerful presentation... amazingly his eyes were closed for the entire performance. I was afraid he might fall over, but his conducting was dynamic and the orchestra responded beautifully. Some of the difference may be the setting... his in a hall designed to show off and orchestra while here in a church. While a beautiful setting it must be more difficult to capture sound. Nice there are so many options available through TH-cam... and I love this orchestra... they have saved me during Covid.
I have always thought that anything HVK conducted sounded like 16 elephants all trying to step over a tennis ball. That's how I ended up here. I abandoned HVKs version less than halfway through. But to each his own.

Wagner created a master piece here and the orchestra does a magnifince performance under the direction of the young maestro Orozco-Estrada..Bravo Bravo..
This by far is my all time favorite 14 minute song. It may be my favorite classic piece for that matter. It is so beautiful, so complex. Passages that are simple and mind soothing. And passages that are as comlex as music has ever been. The musicians have their work cut out for them, particularly the violinists.
Beautiful... BRAVO! This wonderful orchestra does an extraordinary job of promoting its talented musicians and conductor. Unfortunately the Berlin Philharmonic only releases 2-minute videos. It's a shame.
If you want to see more of the Berlin snippets feel free to buy a ticket to the Digital Concert Hall, that is kind of the idea behind it. Magnificent performance. The musicians left every ounce of energy on stage. Though at 15:27 the violinist has an expression directed at the audience reaction as "really, that's all you can give us?"
Yes, I get that as well. It's the same as the audience reaction to this orchestra's sublime Tristan Prelude and Liebestod. I know it's not really done in classical circles but if I'd been there I would have been on my feet and cheering my head off at the end of it.
OMG, I can't stop listening to this ovature. Usually after listening to a piece 10 or 15 times, I grow tired of it. But after listening to this piece for 50 times or more, I still find myself migrating to it. Help, I have become an ovature addict. 😬😬😬

i only listened global to some great dirigents since this week. But I m not a big fan of Mozart/Bach. Wagners music goes right into your soul, and that's the most difficult thing to do. He's absolutely brilliant. This and tristan and Isolde is just mindblowing, the balance between the serenity and passion of emotion is like heaven should be
Wagner is a genius but Bach as well. He manages to cross craftmanship and emotion in a perfect way, this is astounding like the initial choruses of both Passions for example.
I’m a fan of both composers for different reasons. I like Bach (especially his fugues) because of the counterpoint and genius use and reuse of motifs and themes. The beauty of many of his works lies in the analytical. I find Wagner’s overtures and operas beautiful for their grandiosity, emotion, and sheer emotional heaviness. His themes are simple and piercing, and the orchestration of and around those themes is spectacular and perfect.
Da ich direkt unterhalb der Wartung geboren wurde und jetzt auch wieder wohne, ist der Tannhäuser meine liebste Oper. Es ist der Geist der in uns wohnt. Heil Landgraf Hermann, heil !
The bowing for the first violins from 11:19 to the end sounds and looks quite daunting. I was a violinist, in my early life, and the first time I heard this wonderful piece those bowings did sound next to impossible.
