    Hi Bill,
Two weeks ago I was driving down the highway on my 05 F350 (62,000 miles) and the engine died. Tried to start it and cranks but no start. Had it towed to one shop but did not feel comfortable with the Mechanics there so took it home. Several mechanics told me the problem is 6.0 and I need to get rid of the truck as fast as I can. I watched your videos and with the help of a good powerstroke mechanic I think I will keep it. Thank you!

The big thing is water condensing in the motor and fouling the oil, same for fuel tanks. As long as the truck is run periodically and allowed to warm up fully you should be able to stretch the time intervals. I would recommend oil testing if you have any reservations about your oil quality.

Good video! Bottom line... Preventative maintenance is needed on every vehicle. I've used many different brands and I've come to conclusion that it doesn't matter which brand you use as long as your doing ''preventative maintenance''. Good point about using factory filters during warranty period ford ALWAYS tries to get out of warranty work.... Soooo, after that period use what you feel comfortable with just make sure u take care of your 3-F's. Keep up great vids!

I have never used anything but Ford filters on my 05 f250. I have never run anything other than schaeffers 7000 15-40 synthetic blend in my truck except this last service, I put schaeffers 9000 5-40 full synthetic in it (Wisconsin, starts awesome down to -5 (coldest so far) without plugging in. cranks like you just shut it off). I've changed my oil at 17-18k every time (or every 3-4 weeks) and have run a few samples and they all come back looking like the oil is new yet, but I dump it anyhow. I'm shooting for 20k on the 9000. Every drop of fuel that truck has seen since I purchased it has had Schaeffers Diesel Treat 2000 Diesel Premium recommended amount in it, even in the -30/-40 deg f winter temps. I purchased the truck with 69,500 mi and I just turned over 160k. I have never had a fuel issue (still running original injectors tested good today) and the only oil issue I've had was the hipo pump at 94k. I love the schaeffers products and swear by them, along with the ford filters.

  • @powerstrokehelp
    @powerstrokehelp  11 ปีที่แล้ว

It has alot to do with how it is stored. A full tank of fuel will last a very long time. A half or worse yet a quarter full tank will go bad very quickly depending on humidity and temperature changes during the course of the day. In the South where it is humid much of the time. If you have a 90F day and a 70F night the damp air will get into the tank vent and at night water will condense out of the air onto the cooler walls of the tank. But if the tank is full this will not be so bad.

common oil pan leak is at the point where the pan takes the sharp turn from the rear of the pan. try to tighten the oil pan bolts other wise the pan has to be removes and resealed.

Have you ever considered Evans Waterless Coolant? It has a boiling point of over 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Because it is water less there will be no corrosion, no build up in the oil cooler. Because of its extremely high boiling point there is no worrying about the EGR cooler boiling coolant out of the truck. You can look it up for more details, but I know that truckers swear by the stuff.

Bill, Great videos Thank you! Have you tried Justice Brothers ? I have tested it against all the Diesel additives you are showing...JB outperformed all in tests. As a water dispersant, cetane improver and injector maintenance it has no rivals. They also have a Product called “Heavy Duty Vehicle” oil additive. Best on the market... outperformed all others in tests.im a former JB Rep. It is a Professional Product... sometimes you can find it at a local NAPA, or call a JB distributor.

  • @gabelambert5274

Regarding 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0. transmission fluid change. Trans dipstick says Mercron SP. Owners manual for 4R100 says ford p/n: QT-2-QDX. Also states mercron, -V, and SP are not interchangeable. You say nothing but LV. Guessing LV is just an updated version of fluid? So SP or LV? Thanks for all the 6.0 videos!

Here's an idea bill. The 6.0 power stroke is notorious for egr problems, headgaskets blowing and a couple other things. Why not just remove the egr, swap for heavy duty headgasket, change the head studs, and change the tune from the garbage stock tune to one where it's easier on the engine like one for fuel economy or performance because all engines produced today are detuned for emissions. If the components are making the power they were designed for, the motor will last longer.

Peter Kapica People don't have money to throw into their trucks all the time. Just weld the EGR shut (if you got a 03 and 04) and just punch the cat out. Bam, done. Thats what i did to my 03 and its at 780k. No replacement ever, of any part. 05 and newer, do the same just get a tune (never run a hot tune all the time it will destroy any truck)

    Hi Bill,
I'm a fan of your videos and I thank you for all the work that you put into them.
I read a lot of comments on various PSD forums that Motorcraft Gold is silica-base and the primary culprit for the oil cooler clogs and related EGR cooler failure leading to the head gasket issues. Many claim that onle EC-1 coolants should be used. What's your response to that. Since you stand so firmly on the notion that only "Gold" should be used, I'd love to hear your rebuttle.
Thanks in advance. A video on that debate would be awesome.

My 2003 6.0 has been struggling in the North Dakota Oil Field with 60 below zero temperatures. I fashioned a make-shift cardboard winter front (Ford offers no below zero winter protection). If I do not keep the engine heater plugged in, forget about starting it at 20 degrees above zero. Helps somewhat, but do you have any recommendations? Fluids-Oil adjustment? Any suggestions on giving my 2003 6.0 crew cab severe sub zero tolerance besides don't go there?

They are both labeled as Motorcraft FL-2016 and both filters look identical. Though I don't see Motorcraft wrote on the filter with PN ab. Are they the same filter? They are both sold as Motorcraft oil filters.

This is a silly question maybe I come from the gasoline world, but the Rotella T6 Oil, is there one for a Gas engine and one for a Diesel engine, or what grade specifically do I need to look for in Diesel engine oil that differentiates it from a gas engine.

I have a 7.3 PSD f350 and was looking to buy a new 6.7, but the EPA exhaust and emissions is way more unreliable than the older trucks ... talking to the dealership, I ask them about reliability and they evade that question with the 6.7.
I want to buy a new F350, but the 2 dealerships cannot tell me I could get 100,000 miles without a major repair. Sadly the EPA appears to be killing the diesel light truck market.
Just not too excited about a 7,000 dollar exhaust repair or 5,000 dollar turbo repair.

I know this is a really old video. I have always been a Rotella fan and believe in changing it often. Cheap insurance. I just acquired a 2003 6.0. What weight do you recommend?

Hi Bill, I love your videos and i have learned a LOT from them, I have 2007 F350, do you think its a good idea to change an EBPS Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor for better MPG, or is it a waste of money? Thanks

BIll, having watched this video, how do you compare the Archoil Fuel Additive to these? You did not discuss cetane content in Archoil, but you did talk about combustibility. I took the Archoil challenge, and loved it. But I wonder about cetane after watching this video.

I change my motor oil every 1k miles and never had an injector problem. The oil comes out almost clean every time.

Just wondering if the Ford Motorcraft fuel filter has the special membrane to remove water would installing a separate fuel/water separator still be a good idea?
I think a few years and a many videos ago you mentioned a particular brand of marine diesel grade fuel/water separator as being a very good idea if you wanted to protect your motor. I'm just wondering if that advice is still valid.

Hi Bill, quick question, I just did a coolant flush in my 04 6.0 and installed a coolant filter system as well, I know you say to use the gold coolant from ford, which is what I did. But a lot of people on the powerstroke forum are saying don't use the Gold? Is there a better coolant to use or is the Gold the best option? Thanks

Gold is fine as is any other silicate free coolant. Evan's makes one.

They are a great solution for guys pulling heavy all the time out west with big grades etc. But for flatlanders just kicking around the neighborhood, it is a waste of money.
