Unfortunately, the criteria for running for a political office are so loosely defined almost everywhere in the world, and the USA is no exception. All you have to do is be a US citizen by birth and be over a certain age.

You don't get to just "replace" a president or even a presidential candidate. There are electoral contests that have to be won, with a majority of that party's delegates agreeing to select a candidate to represent them. And then that candidate must win a general election by all the voters who participate in the election.
That is true in the general election, but not necessarily true for the individual party nomination at the party convention. There is a lot of room for games . The parties are private organizations, not federal government.

The current state-by-state primary voting system was gradually established as a direct reaction to old-style party political bosses who had too much control over the selection process.
@@madlift Yes and no. For instance the republican party has changed the internal rules over the past 5 years. The Sr people in the party have more delegate votes than the delegates voted in by the state level voters.
It's common knowledge that Romney and the Bush families hate Trump and will use every possible method to block him from winning.
Of course this will really tick off the voters and likely will cost them the election, but they did it in the last election as well.
Biden`s only chance of winning back the far left and moderates is to clamp down hard on Israel. Otherwise they just won't vote at all. If he does, then the lobby will push to have him replaced by saying that he is too old.
Since the parties control the primary process they can and have changed the rules at the drop of a hat. They did it in 2020.
