Honda's Collision Mitigation Braking System - POV Test Drive (Binaural Audio)

  • After spending a day at Honda R&D, it was pretty cool to be able to test out Honda's Collision Mitigation Braking System first hand in a controlled environment. The system is designed to help reduce the likelihood of a potential collision by alerting the driver and then, if necessary, applying the brakes if a collision is determined to be unavoidable.
Depending on the circumstances, CMBS may not go through all the alert stages before initiating the last stage (of collision mitigation). CMBS cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation can be affected by high interior heat. The driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions. Basically, don't go test this on your friends...or enemies.

I own a 2020 Civic Sport model. I find the safety systems to be very adequate. But recommend them only as a last resort. Especially since I have noticed the system doesn't engaged until the very last second. Like if your in really bad visibility or night time driving. Also as another person mentioned in the comments anyone behind you will surely hit you if not paying attention themselves if you rely solely on the avoidance mitigation systems. That said I absolutely love my car. The system helped me out in a tight spot once on a Pennsylvania highway with torrential downpour. Visibility in the rain with full wiper motion was around 10ft. But the system could see a car in my lane in front of me that I couldn't.

  • @mariomariojr32
    @mariomariojr32 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

To answer the question of what happens if the safety system is activated during heavy rainy conditions, I believe the system turns off the sensors if they are blocked by rain or after a couple of swipes from the windshield wipers. An alert on the dashboard should illuminate when the system has been disabled.

I heard a lot of mixed reviews when it comes to the CMBS. I have a 2019 Accord sport 2.0 and the CMBS is toned down a lot. It let me hit a card board box at 25mph. I tested it at 10mph and also at 35mph. The box was big enough that the system could have applied the brakes and stop but it didn’t do anything but give an audible warning. So the system sees the box. The manual says the CMBS works between 3mph and 62mph. I adjusted the detection distances and the system in my 19 Accord does not work as Demonstrated in this video.
I think the system in the Honda is programmed to detect pedestrian figures because it doesn’t work with those kids plastic 12v cars. I hit that too at 5mph
I also previously owned a 2018 Camry for a year . The Camry applied the brakes before hitting the box. The Camry would not let me hit a closed garage door or the wall in the garage. However the Camry’s overall safety package was buggy and would always tell me to clean the sensor. It drove me crazy. Toyota said it worked but I was tired of the system throwing those yellow lights.
In the Camry I also experienced a complete brake lockup and the accelerator was disabled when I made a legal u-turn , another car rolled the stop sign and the system worked but I was stuck not able to accelerate for about 5 seconds. Scared me because other cars were coming. That’s when I traded for the 19’ Accord. Plus the Camry had that junk Entune radio and no Apple CarPlay.
Overall I am happy with the Accord 2.0 Sport. 10 speed auto and engine is smoothed as butter.

I hate to say this, but I'm very impressed with how Honda has started to regain some respect. Toyota currently seems like it's gone the route of adding bright red stitches, slapping on badges that say TRD PRO to their Camry and Avalon line up and asking $44k. They both are using 3.5 v6 and I can say from experience that Iv'e tested the Camry, Avalon and the Lexus es 350, which also happens to use the 3.5 v6 mated to the 8 speeds.

It would not let us accelerate and stopped us as we were going forward since we had the green light still. A car from the rear then ran into the back of us since the car stopped almost in the middle of the intersection. Finally after 5 to 6 seconds the brake disengage and we could finally move.

Thanks to honda for installing that sensor so easy to steal, mine just got stolen!
Same sh!t happened in NJ in June 2020 on a large scale, several hundred CRV 's got robbed of the damn honda sensing "radar sensor" in a matter of couple weeks.
Because it's so easy to do without any special tools, they're able to rob 20 cars in literally 20min.
Unsuspecting owners will be greeted with multiple warnings:
    Collision Mitigation Braking System Problem,
    Road Departure/Mitigation System Problem,
    Lane Keeping Assist System Problem,
    Auto High-Beam Headlights Problem,
    Adaptive Cruise Control Problem,
    Brake System Problem.
    Horrible design, Genuine Honda ignorance!

Luckily there was no one behind me or I would have been hit from behind. No way to turn this system off permanently but you can turn it off every time you get in the car. Never buying another car with this system. So dangerous.
