I have an 04 Liberty with amps only on the front speakers, I change the stereo and out for a aftermarket market stereo and i connected the same speaker amps up to my new one and it works fine..
Dealer fails us once again! I knew there was an external amplifier or more once I installed my aftermarket deck and it distorted after a few clicks on the volume as this has happened to me before in other non Jeep/ Chrysler vehicles. The only way around this is to run fresh speaker wires from the aftermarket deck to the existing or new speakers and either bypass the factory amp with a direct connection but be aware of the ohms possibly being too low... So, either run a new amp or hook the new speakers directly to the deck if the wattage isn't too high for your new deck. I don't understand the purpose in factory amps if the speakers still sound like crap. My buddy has an 06 SRT Designs 300 c with the same issue and external amplifiers on the speakers. I love when you call a dealer for advise and they're too lazy to look it up or think they know it all.

Kids that's why you ask questions but always check for yourself. So there are amps on doors speakers in a Jeep that DIDN'T come with an Infinity radio upgrade? They said only jeeps with the infinity upgrade had the amps on door speakers. Ummmm I'ma have to look at my Jeep while installing this cd player. Thanks man. Your videos are clean and to the point.
Great video, absolutely informative. Although I do wish you would of went a bit more in depth about the amp, can we hook aftermarket speakers to these amps? If so is it just 2 wires? It looked as if there were 4 or more wires to a main connector on the amp... I guess getting in there and pulling it apart would tell me all I need but I'd much rather know what all pieces I'll need before taking my panels off.
Yes but you need to buy 2 ohm speakers as the amps are 2 ohm. If you're replacing the factory head unit with an aftermarket radio just run new wire and remove the amps. Most car audio stuff is 4 ohms but some of these jeeps came with an infiniti system that was 2 ohms.
At 0:26, you say if we had watched the removal video, we would have heard what the issue was with sporadic cutting in and out. Looked up the removal video and watched it 3 times... Did I miss it? Or maybe cut due to editing? Thanks!!

Looks like the 2 star shape bits.. I don’t know if I have that tool... after that point,, should be able to slide the positive and negative connector right off the clips from the speaker.. cable and connector stay together.. should be able to use the same connectors for the new speaker.
So... not ALL Liberty came with the upgraded sound system, right? Some just have basic paper garbage speakers and no amps except in the radio head itself. If you lack the dash speakers, you probably lack amps in your doors.
I bought some come speakers from Amazon that say fit my 2004 Jeep Liberty but when I followed your directions to take the door off (which were great) the wire adapter that they claimed would fit for that speaker did not fit the speaker harness to my Jeep. How do I install speaker without the amp? Thanks for all your help
frick poo You can easily find other 6.5 inch speakers, but with the way the original speakers are mounted, its unlikely for aftermarket ones to fit. I had to fabricate wooden brackets to hold my aftermarket speakers in place, but now they work and sound great
it might just be the limited edition. I have a 2005 and it has the amps in the doors. there are only 2 amps.one for the right two speakers and one for the left two. U can change out the speakers but u have to be kinda creative
I cant seem to find anything online... I have a 2007 liberty sport with 6 speakers, but I need to know if it has a factory amp or not. What exactly do you have? The car has cloth seats, if that helps at all

My Stereo works, but only plays out of the front left and right rear speaker. I wonder if I have amplifiers on my speakers, and that's my problem?
+metalmoto check the little dial on the actual radio. other than that, you probably have either a bad connection or a bad speaker
when I remove the speakers, will it be easy to find the this type of speaker at Walmart or best buy?

Is it not the same? It's VERY similar to my 2005, and I think 05 and 08 are the same.
