The MOBA That Tried To Be A Battle Royale - What Happened To Battlerite?

  • Battlerite is a game that at one point showed signs of greatness but sadly succumbed to a series of issues and poor developer decisions that have resulted in many labeling it as a failure.

    Battlerite Royale had so much potential but putting a price on it and splitting it from Battlerite was a huge fail.

      Yeah but the thing is both games had different developers and basically a different code so to put an example it could happen a situation like league and TFT that even tho theyre conpletely different when they made changes to TFT the changes would apply to league and viceversa which if u now how the league code kinda works u wouldnt be surprised but yeah basically even tho the champions were the same the only way to balance both needed to be separate ,but the part of being payd is tru tho

      @@pineaplejuicegg7667 I agree, the price tag screws it over. If your title is purely multiplayer, and isnt a huge tripple A release with a shit load of marketing, you are going to struggle with getting enough people to play. Given that a skin system is essentially already implemented in this royale (due to the other game already having skins ready for porting over), I think not making it free to play was a brain dead decision.
      Had it just been free to play, it would have had a significantly larger player base since anyone can try it with no risk, and with a larger base, it has a chance to grow organically from players enjoying it and telling their friends to play it.
      Really stupid decision there. The game literally can't run without enough players to fill lobbies.

      @@Zaszz1 the game was free to play what i mean what that it was basically a free to play with ways to get skins just like overwatch the only thing is many skins werent recolours like overwatch so u basically never had to put money on the game besides if u wanted to have all the champs and only had to pay 15 bucks for all of them and that makes that even is non f20 put money on the game u werent gonna make anough

      @@pineaplejuicegg7667 Doesn't quite excuse it. Give a free copy of the game mode to people who already paid for the game! It was early access, they literally stopped adding content to the base game and focused on trying to make a new money-grabbing game... so 6 months later, maybe they would make a new game and leave battle royale customers hanging there again? It only built distrust, we all left, the game could have strived as the only MOBA battle royale out there, and TBH it was amazing and unique. Maybe not the next DotA 2, but it certainly would have had no competition in its market.

      There wasn't enough to depth to individual characters, which is why the game was so popular initially but faded away. It's fun at first, but for most people gets less and less fun as you figure everything out. Unlike a fighting game, which has far more micro depth to get into, or a normal MOBA which has far more macro depth to get into, Battlerite just kinda had nothing after you got in deep enough.

      @@stanisk.942 DIE didn't just have weak advertising, it was also straight up detrimental advertising. They presented it as a competitor to LoL and Dota 2 by coining the godawful acronym ZOMBA. It then failed to dig moba fans out of their entrenchment to the two top dogs, scared away outsiders due to the genre's reputation for being obtuse and toxic, and then probably let down quite a few of the moba fans who did try it since it wasn't very similar to a proper moba at all.

    Also there was an awesome gamemode called "Battlegrounds", which had a some usual MOBA aspects, such as a destroying main object or special events on the map. I still remember when I messing with my AMD Drivers to play this awesome gamemode, and after a short period this gamemode was removed to 'fix a main issues', but after that he was never been appeared again. Battlerite is a still my favourite game and i miss this good old times.

  • @LoradLP
    @LoradLP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The problem for me was the game just had a way to steep learning curve. So you couldn't really play it with friends, since the skill gaps were just larger than in any game I've ever played. Therefore it never became the "main game" for most of the players.
    Also people wouldn't really play it for a long time because the 7 min ultra-intense games were just so exhausting, you couldn't play for hours like you can in other games.

    • @chienpo2945
      @chienpo2945 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah; comeback was incredibly hard. It becomes intense at the start of a match because everyone's fishing for the first mistake. Compared to the popular MOBAs, it was a lot more forgiving although games were 2x to 6x. longer.

    • @brandenquiroga773
      @brandenquiroga773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally love the skill gap that was the best part. I wish league was more like it used to be focused way more on individual skill then team play. That's where battlerite royal was really fun where is focused on purely skill and fighting.

    A was a fan of Battlerite right away from early accsess, because the gampley was so enjoyable. It was truly a painful journey to see the develpoers neglect the community who already wanted the game to thrive, and move on to chase a differnet goal. I still rember how i felt when they first announced the BR game-mode, and than making it into a distinct game. Whenever I think of Battlerite nowdays, i remember how much I enjoyed arena, and how devasteted it was to see the company make such poor decisions. This just shows how a truly amazing game can die so easily when paired with a few poor choices.

    Oh man I remember playing this game. One of the things I always thought was going against it was the core gameplay being very fast all the time for the full round demanding constant attention. In most other MOBAs, there's peaks of action with stretches of calm; a game of league isn't going to be non-stop massive teamfights all the time for the full game but BR forced that. By design, BR only allowed for people with great reflexed and nonstop concentration to really win which could easily get exhausting even after a few games.
