    I got so much to say on this topic since I had a lightbulb moment with Elsa being a character I relate very much with, and my recent autism diagnosis.

    I have Autism, and I can totally see why some people think the series is about Autusm. I saw it that ways at first, but I think it is more about trauma and PTSD. ⚠️(SPOILERS AHEAD) ⚠️
    There is an undeniable theme of trauma in the movies: death of 4 main characters, Ana almost dying twice, Elsa forced to live alone in a room (child abuse, intentional or not) and much more.
    Elsa suffered substantial mental and psychological abuse by her parents. They sent a message to her that she is dangerous by putting gloves on her and locking her in a room her whole life. The gloves represent shame (possibly symbolizing shame because of an abusive home life).
    In "Let It Go," we see her giving up and giving in to the trauma telling her she is unworthy and dangerous (a common thing for abuse victims to feel).
    At the end of the first movie, we see that Elsa appears to be unhindered by her trauma, but the beginning of the second tells us that she has extensive insecurities about herself still. It is very common for abuse victims to make major strides and think they made past the hard parts, but they still have those insecurities. They are just a little less obvious.
    "Into the Unknown" is about her feeling like something is missing (also common in abuse victims). She wants to go out and find what is missing, because something feels off to her. This is analogous to Else seeking trauma therapy.
    The water horse is an analogy for the worst part of her PTSD. The deepest part that will rear its head when she isn't expecting it. In trauma therapy, the traumas come up a lot at first and triggers appear with a fury. It tries to hurt those she loves before she is truly aware of it. At the climax, we see Elsa fight to tame the horse and learn to use it to benefit her life. That is she learned in therapy to control her PTSD and lessen their affects.
    PTSD often hurts people we love before we know how much it is affecting us. We see Elsa struggle to cope with the traumas in her life, until eventually she is forced to stop running from it directly into it. We see her conquer those traumas and use them for good.
    While I totally saw Autism at first, upon researching PTSD and the effects of trauma, I think these movies far better reflect those than Autism. I recommend researching PTSD and then watching both movies back to back. Take special note of her inner dialogue and how it affects her interactions with herself and those around her. Notice how they handle various traumatic events, like when Elsa and Olaf die. She sings about healthy ways to handle trauma.

    • @merissamakesstuff
      @merissamakesstuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@misspinkpunkykat yes, you are right. It is common, in part because of some of the early interventions that teach kids to hide their Autism instead of helping them be themselves while communicating better with neurotypicals. There are a lot more reasons it is common as well.

      Hmm.. but isn't the first trauma about being too different, and parents not dealing with it, so she has to just mask it all away?
      So many autistic people have trauma because parents don't deal with things in a way that helps them as a child.

  • @matthewstahl2487

    Autistic people are human beings just like anybody else living on this planet. As an autistic person myself, I can see why it's hard for people to understand that people who are autistic are human just like them. Some people with autism are not able to talk. And that sucks. Yes, autistic people do care about others, but the thing is you don't have to be autistic to be nice to people. You don't have to have autism to be kind or caring. All you need to do to care for others is to be considerate. You don't have to have autism to be generous. Autism is actually meant to cripple people, which it has. But it could also be a person's greatest strength. It is in my case. So it should work alright for other people as well. And if it doesn't, they'll have help either when it rains or shines. I hope you have a great day and a wonderful year. You certainly deserve it.

    Elsa is my favorite Disney princess and favorite character of all time. I have never had a stronger connection with any princess. My dream of meeting her came true last summer in Disney world and it was the best day ever. I think Elsa is definitely different than other princesses because she unlike the others has inward struggles. The other princesses tend to have outward struggles such as villains and other characters making their lives miserable. Elsa struggles with holding in some deep emotions that control her powers. Many autistic females hide their autistic powers just like Elsa. I also feel like Elsas powers could be a metaphor for seizures which many autistic people also have. It’s nice to have an autistic princess who can help advocate for people that are different and show how beautiful being different can be. Sure autism comes with struggles but their is so much beauty. Frozen 2 came out the month I was diagnosed and show yourself became my anthem. I absolutely love Elsa and I’m so glad Disney seems to be making a princess for everyone. Elsa is definitely mine. Loved the video.🤍💙❄️⛄️

      I`m so happy you got to meet Elsa in Disneyworld! Very interesting what you`re saying with seizures. I also have to agree on Elsa being a different kind of princess with inner struggles rather than outward. Thank you for watching and for giving me some more insight in both who you are and what you think about Elsa! :)

    I think this is the best video about Elsa and Autism I saw so far! ♡
    Your english is also getting better and better.
    I think the producers did not want Elsa to be autistic. I think she can be a metaphor for many minoritys because she tries to hide her true self.
    I am bisexual and as I saw the movie the first time I thought Let it Go was a coming out song xD
    I think the movie frozen can be used as an explanation about autism, or being "different" in general, for kids.
    I think from Elsa we can learn a lot about emotions as well.

      Thank you!!! And I so agree that my english is getting better, I saw one of my older videos yesterday, and my english is on another level already 😂👍🏻
      That’s interesting! I don’t believe they made her autistic on purpose, but if you have the correct criterias for a diagnosis, you can choose if your autistic or not. Idk, but I know a lot of people say that’s why she’s autistic regardless of Disneys intentions.
      But I totally agree with the lgbtq+ thing. I don’t think her not having a loveinterest is an accident, I thought she was gay for a long time. Idk if she are though, haven’t done the research. :)

    I don't really know what the first movie is about, but Frozen II is definitely about the crimes committed against indigenous peoples. The dam in the story still stands in Norway, literally.
    And rather than climate change, if thatvs how youbwant to see it, itvs about destroying the biodiversity which is the magic of nature, by taking parts of nature to use for something else.

    • @WiwyWish
      @WiwyWish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. I am 1/8 sami, which is the indigenous people in Norway, so I know the story. And I think it’s weird that some people think it’s about climatechange, because I can’t really see that. But I probably forgot to talk about it in this video 🙈 Thank for bringing this up in the commentsection 🥰

    trauma and thinking you are wrong, everything bad is because of you, being seen as the outsider normies don’t understand is pretty explicitly in the movie. How you interptret it how ever (a gay, trans, autistic, racialised/ethnicised, disabled) is up to everyone’s own interpretation. In some stories it’s pretty difficult to ignore one interpretation because it references so many specific things. frozen isn’t one of those in my opinion. It’s an outsider weirdo story but not a specific type of weirdo story.
