General Honore coined the phrase ‘Don’t get stuck on stupid’ when he was being questioned by reporters regarding Hurricane Katrina. Love it when someone is concise at getting a point across and BJ couldn’t have timed that any better considering the massive hurricanes on screen going global.
The intro scene is in part based on reality, back in 1986 a 1,500 square mile Ice berg (3,900kmsq) weighing 1 TRILLION tonnes broke of the Antarctic ice shelf, It's still around today 38 years later and just made the news for doing a complete 360 degree spin as it slowly heads north towards the Atlantic ocean. It's so heavy it's dragging on the ocean floor. There's a HUGE dollop of artistic licence in this movie but many of the basics are correct. More worrying than A23 is the ice melt in Greenland, should that entire sheet melt sea levels could rise by upto 7 metres globally (100 feet). it would dump TRILLIONS of tonnes of cold water into the northern Atlantic and cause the Gulf stream to stop and reduce temps across the entire Northern hemisphere to the point we enter another ice age. Europe Asia and North America plunged into arctic temperatures as a result. Last time something similar happened was 10,500BC when the north American Ice sheet melted over a 1,200 year timescale (called the "Younger Dryas" though some recent studies suggest it could have happened in a much MUCH shorter timescale), that event raised sea levels by 420 feet, even if it took 1200 years that's STILL an average sea level increase of over 4 inches a year. There are over 500 great flood "myths" around the globe, this event is quite possibly the grain of truth behind them. From Atlantis to Noah in the bible. All could be a legacy of this one event from 12,500 year in our past..
There's an interview that's a few years old with Dennis Quade and Jake Gyllenhaal. During the interview, this film is mentioned and the fact they played Father and Son, Jake had completely forgotten 😂😂
BJ: "I've never been able to whistle like that." Asia: "Me neither." Me: "I can't whistle at all. I've tried my whole life & I still can't do it. Came pretty damn close a few times, though."
In the early 70’s we lived in Oklahoma. I was in the fourth grade and one afternoon me, my two youngest older sibs and some of our friends were out running around in the yard playing. A neighbor had come over and her and my mom were standing on the front porch visiting. All of a sudden something came flying onto the porch and hit the neighbor in the side, she cried out and doubled over. My mom started yelling at us kids, thinking we’d been throwing something around, which wasn’t all that strange for us to be doing, but this time it wasn’t us. Then we started hearing a loud ‘WHOMP!’ every couple minutes and we’d see something bounce off the ground. When my mom realized what it was she started yelling at us to get in the house. It was hail…shaped and as big as a medium sized patty pan squash. The hail didn’t fall as fast as the ‘Japanese’ hail in this movie, but it was about the same size and sometimes bigger. The local ice cream man kept some of the bigger ones in his truck freezer for a long time.
14:34 Maybe you’re thinking of the film that begins with the ominous line “This is a true story, it just hasn't happened yet” printed on the screen. That’s the Emmy-nominated 2005 disaster docu-drama Supervolcano starring Michael Riley, Adrian Holmes, and Jane MacLean Guerra. It’s really good, it’s a collaboration by the Discovery Channel, the BBC, and a few other companies and is viewable free here on TH-cam.
Ooh I am jealous. I am not so into action/adventure so I always end up seeing something like this on cable thinking Dam this would be good in the theater!! I used to live near a theater that specialised older movies especially suited to the big screen. Wish there were more of those around, such a good idea.
The docudrama "Shakleton's Captain" is a true story, happened more than 100 years ago and they actually had a film maker / photographer with them. It's the story about an Antarctica expedition that went very wrong. It is truly amazing.
This movie is based on the 1999 book, The Coming Global Superstorm, written by Whitley Streiber and famed former late night radio host, Art Bell. Both Streiber and Bell are worth looking up for those not acquainted with Bell's show, Coast To Coast A.M. It may be difficult to find, depending on the platform, due to Bell's unhappiness with the direction C2C took under his former fill in host and eventual replacement, George Noory. This book/movie also helped give a much needed kick to people to join the Prepper Movement. Whatever your personal SHTF moment is, EVERYONE should have a plan and prepare accordingly.
Well...one fact that proves this movie's portrayal of what's possible is definitely not the "worst, worst, worst case scenario" nor "exaggerated" is the fact that during a relatively recent ice age, the sheets covered most of the Earth and in places like New York, were ONE MILE thick! Damn...imagine THAT! :)
This movie gave me chills and made me feel cold 🥶 Great movie, great reaction! ❤ Like Asia said, "this movie makes you wanna live right". Let's do better to save our 🌎
Movies like this should reinforce you in realizing that even smaller scale disasters are when not if they happen. Preparing for emergencies should be taught in schools. Thanks Miss Asia and BJ
I mean you could say that it’s a true story. There has been many ice ages in our planets history. I read somewhere that during the last ice age, there was an ice cap that went from the North Pole all the way down to current day Iowa or Illinois. Pretty much stretched all the way across the Midwest and was like 2 miles thick. Pretty wild to think about.
Whales would not survive such history unless the blubber was always designed into them when created. Forget ice ages. They wouldn't be able to survive evolution history.
When this came out, I was on summer break from college and working at the food court in the mall. My coworker and I were broke AF but wanted to see this movie. We were super nice and helpful to every customer so we could get tips and use that to see the movie. We earned just enough in tips to buy our tickets. Loved the movie. Money well spent.
Saw it in the theater twice when it came out. Very underrated. Great message in it. 2012 was too over the top. Love the score. This one had a real feel to it,… like (Deep impact.)= “recommended.”Glad you reacted to this one Asia and B.J. ❤️❤️❤️✌️
Where we live, this winter, we had our own Day After Tomorrow event. it hit -40 below and even with our heaters and fireplace roaring, in sections of the house the windows, doors, pipes, all froze and frosted, we could see our breaths. That week it was colder than the North Pole.

the only thing thats based on true events is the Larsen B ice shelf collapse. it collapsed in 2002 if i remember correctly. thats what happens at the very start of the movie.
That is a good movie, I also enjoyed Alive the first movie made about that tragedy but it's not a natural disaster movie, I think it's actually The Impossible that Asia was thinking of perhaps.
Hey guys - so Jay O. Sanders, who played Frank, should look familiar to you even if his name isn't. He's a really prolific character actor, he's been in tons of movies and TV shows since like the 80s. Great actor!
Happy Valentines Day I hope y'all had a great one!! I'm So glad I found you all when you first started! ❤❤
I don't think this was based on a true story... you might be mixing this one with the "Snow Society" about a plane crashing on the Andes mountains. Love the content!! Great as always!
Someone mentioned the movie "2012". Another disaster movie that's a must. It's based on the Mayan calendar "predicting" the ending of the world. Which, of course wasn't the end. But people were actually preparing for it. The problem is, the Mayan calendar only ENDED on 12/12/2012. People assumed that because the calendar ended, that it was the end of the world. I can't remember if ya'll watched Armageddon or not, but it's another great one with some comic relief and an all-star cast such as Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, and the late, great Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffee from The Green Mile).
Man I remember seeing this in the cinema, expecting a bombastic adventure like 'Stargate' or 'Independence Day' and coming out thoroughly depressed lol!
It gets very cold in New Delhi in winter, because its up north, they get the wind from the mountains. But i think this snowing isnt in winter so it is odd.
This movie scared the hell out of me, to be honest. Super possible. We already know things that are now land, were once seas...because of the presence of fossils of marine life. We know entire cities, and perhaps entire civilizations that were once above on land...are now underwater. Our Earth has had catastrophic changes, some related to weather and others not. It's scary to think about.
Great reaction. I always enjoy this movie but though I don't know about the science part--whether this could happen or not----I do know that they wouldn't be able to walk in that time from Phila to NYC even on a nice day! 40 miles would take many, many hours. We used to hike 30 miles starting in the dark and ending in the dark---in the fall. Also, books don't burn well! You'd have to spread out the pages, otherwise they form a block and it doesn't burn. I know just enough to make me dangerous. 🙂
As a Canadian you’re stupid because the cold they are running from is -150 degrees so don’t really understand your point you would instantly die. I’ve been in minus 30s and 40s all the time and I’m not going to just go outside and hang out in it just because and neither are you just because you’ve been in really cold temperatures doesn’t mean anything.
So happy to see this up today. I've watched this so many times. Another one for y'all 2012 natural disasters everywhere. I know my favorite couple Asia and BJ would love it. ❤
If you think of Earth as a living organism, then oceans are its bloodstream & the balance of fresh water to salt water in them controls the way winds & temperatures change. This film was based on the absolute possible extremes of would could happen if the Larsen B ice shelf down in Antarctica had completely broke off & melted depositing a LOT of fresh water all at once. But what is interesting to note is that within days after this film opening, most of it actually DID break off. Climate change is real. You spoke of seeing the difference up north in the arctic circle of glaciers disappearing as they melt. There is a wonderful (yet scary) documentary called Chasing Ice made by a National Geographic photographer who was looking for something different to do. He found it. Love you kid's work. Keep it up.
I went to boarding school in Oklahoma and our entire campus went to see this in the only theater in town and this movie became one of my favorite disaster flicks at the time! Everyone was so invested and in awe of this that one of my dorm mates got it on DVD and my dorm mates all sat down in our living room to watch it a second time upon its DVD release, it was that good!
It's not based off true events but it does predict what will happen to our weather when global warming becomes more of an issue. It's actually kinda happening now because there's more extreme weather events happening now than ever. It's very scary and interesting at the same time
It’s basically the worst case climate scenarios all smushed together. We’re seeing all of the changes shown, it’s just happening at a global pace, not Hollywoods.
The redeeming feature of this film is the ending, humanity survives, it survived the last ice age, and we weren't as technologically advanced as we now are. Incidentally, if another ice age occurs, it doesn't need human influence to cause it. George Carlin ''Save the Planet'', look it up. Also, the Tambora eruption of 1815 and its effects on the climate, as well as the potential effect of a super-volcano eruption.
48:00 Communication breakdown failure lol. Dennis Quaid was indeed the dad correct. BJ says "That was Jack" which is also correct. The issue was Asia THOUGHT he said "Jack" in a way to say "no no you're wrong" kind of way prompting you to switch to thinking Jack was the guy who sacrificed himself at the mall. But BJ was just telling you that Dennis Quaid played the character Jack. Lol it happens; glad you enjoyed this one BJ: If you enjoyed this genre (Earth catastrophe type) a lot; may I suggest into the voting pool 2020 "Greenland".
American glaciologists in Antarctica are heard using US units of measurement during their work. The metric system is in use by glaciologists - even American ones - in all scientific contexts.
10:48 thats nuts bro! I barely passed algebra and Algebra 2 but breezed through chemistry and geometry without much guidance. Its like Michael Jackson, he wrote his own lyrics and tunes despite him not being able to read music sheets for a long time. There's a difference between learning a craft, and feeling it. Also, Emmy Rossum is my Hollywood Crush. I would risk freezing temperatures and wolves for her.
This is my favourite disaster movie, went to see it in 2004 at the cinema with my family and watched it 7 more times by myself. This was the best anticipated movie I ever watched at the cinema.

Jake didn't forget, he was being sarcastic. Because at that point almost every interviewer in that junket brought it up.
"This makes you want to live right." Preach, Asia. I recommend watching Don't Look Up for a similar vibe.
That’s also a great one, but it’s a bit hard watching it considering how depressingly accurate it is for the conservatives in the US 😬
@@mrs.h2725 Was going to say the same about Canadian liberals haha
with the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins......as a Scottish meteorologist...he was also the android in "Alien 1"
They have weather in the shire😁😂
Damn I didn’t realize that was him! Awesome
Corneeeeliooos from 5th Element also
HOLY CRAP HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE HE'S ASH.
(Also, "Aliens 1" is just called "Alien". There's no "s".)
BJ: "I've never been able to whistle like that."
Asia: "Me neither."
Me: "I can't whistle at all.
Bj nailed it.. it went from flood to frozen in a very quick time and people think walking out in it will be better than to stay in doors.. genius
If your dog gets diarrhea, feed it "Pure Pumpkin" in a can. It with the pie filling in the grocery store. It will stop it quickly or immediately.
i see u doge
I always kept a can or 2 in the pantry, so I didn't have to "run out" and get some. With dogs, it's not about "if" it's about "when"
Love this movie so much! It's so underrated. Seeing this in theaters was crazy!
Ooh I am jealous. I am not so into action/adventure so I always end up seeing something like this on cable thinking Dam this would be good in the theater!!
I used to live near a theater that specialised older movies especially suited to the big screen. Wish there were more of those around, such a good idea.
Alive is a good survival movie as well. It is based on a true story of a rugby team whose flight crashes over the Andes mountains.
You two are funny, kind and obviously in love with each other, which is why I love watching you.
The docudrama "Shakleton's Captain" is a true story, happened more than 100 years ago and they actually had a film maker / photographer with them. It's the story about an Antarctica expedition that went very wrong. It is truly amazing.
Many thanks to Asia and BJ! 🌀 Roland Emmerich directed this. Wild to fathom it's been nearly 20 years since I saw it in the cinema.
We had a tornado last year in L.A. it was in the city of montebello
We take too many things for granted.
The earth is our home, keep it clean.
And yes... gotta do Dante's Peak and also Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche (takes place in downtown LA).
This was one of my favorite movies growing up, nice to see y'all react to it. If you like movies like this, 2012 was also a good one.
Saw it in the theater twice when it came out. Very underrated. Great message in it. 2012 was too over the top. Love the score. This one had a real feel to it,… like (Deep impact.)= “recommended.”Glad you reacted to this one Asia and B.J. ❤️❤️❤️✌️
This was one of those movies we watched all the time in school but I always enjoyed it. ❄
Where we live, this winter, we had our own Day After Tomorrow event. it hit -40 below and even with our heaters and fireplace roaring, in sections of the house the windows, doors, pipes, all froze and frosted, we could see our breaths. That week it was colder than the North Pole.
"10.5" is not a...movie...but it's my ultimate favorite disaster film. I grew up watching 10.5 and would love it if you can react to my childhood.
The first time I saw this movie…a LONG time ago…it scared the bejesus out of me. I swore I’d never watch it again. Lol. Here I am with y’all. 😅😊
7:45 In 2017 I was flying over Siberia and saw cracks like that out the window except wider.
That must've been terrifying.
@@the_thicc_german_2277 I thought it was really cool. Unfortunately the airline requires you to keep the shade down so I could only open it to get a quick peek. I think I filmed it for my channel in my Japan trip.
@@3DJapanWhy do they require you to keep the shades down?
"The Core" was one of the best. Geostorm as well.
🔔 ASIA & BJ: DON'T MISS THE SEQUEL, "THE DAY AFTER THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW" 😁
"Janet Takada" was played by Tamlyn Tomika, who also played "Kumiko" in 1986 'Karate Kid 2.'
Perfect Storm is the movie based on true events.
Yea I agree with many many others, Dontas peak, San Andreas, The Perfect Storm.
There's soooo many this old Aussie can't think at the moment.. all I can honestly say is enjoy the journey 😊😊
I remember this director really had a thing for disaster films. This film, Independence Day, 2012 to name a few.
Dante's Peak, Volcano, 2012, Armageddon, Deep Impact are some of the best to decent disaster movies notable mentions The Day The earth stood Still with Keanu Reeves and Knowing with Nicolas Cage. Y'all should definitely check these out.
whenever i see movies like this, i always feel bad cause i think about all the animals in captivity that can't fight to stay alive. 😢 i would have just let them all out. chances are they gonna be more worried bout getting away then attacking humans 😂
the only thing thats based on true events is the Larsen B ice shelf collapse. it collapsed in 2002 if i remember correctly. thats what happens at the very start of the movie.
Greenland is a good newer disaster movie! This one pretty good too.
Is that with Gerard Butler? If that’s the one, I think it was pretty good as well
Indeed it is. @@GooseVF-0918
I love this movie, I find myself returning to it every so often. An exaggerated warning to us all. One love from Scotland. 💙
The one based on a true story is Society of the snow. Excellent film
He was Ziggy on an episode of Roesanne. He visits Dan and Roseanne at their house
Happy Valentines Day I hope y'all had a great one!! Absolutely the best reaction channel that actually talks, but doesn't scream over the movie Asia with her finger mask, laugh and lipgloss (and I'm dying to know what it is) and BJ with his one liner's and jokes!! I'm So glad I found you all when you first started! ❤❤
I remember seeing this in theaters with my friends in high school after having a little puff. Great film and love that opening track by Harold Kloser!
I don't think this was based on a true story... you might be mixing this one with the "Snow Society" about a plane crashing on the Andes mountains.
Love the content!! Great as always!
Yes that's a good movie but not a natural disaster movie, I'd say it's The Impossible she is thinking of.
As a Canadian, in the theater, we laughed at people running from the cold. I've been in -55°F ( -48°C ), which is the same as the tropopause.
It's been mild in Toronto this year. It's snowing today but it's 0°C low of -4°C. 32°F low of 25°F.
48:54: "The Day After Tomorrow: A Shining Example Of Survival Against All Odds"
Keep it up.
Let’s get it!
EOM baby!
Based on a true story ... Not yet
Watch “2012” and “Armageddon” next!!! I LOVED your reaction to this movie and I LOVE this movie too
Yea def not based off real life events but it’s what ppl thought might happen in 2012 as well as many other years with predictions and stuff..
It's not based off true events but it does predict what will happen to our weather when global warming becomes more of an issue. It's actually kinda happening now because there's more extreme weather events happening now than ever. It's very scary and interesting at the same time
@@DeadlyBeast205Probably happen in 2274.
@@PeterAnderson-z4y that's a LONG time lol
It’s basically the worst case climate scenarios all smushed together. We’re seeing all of the changes shown, it’s just happening at a global pace, not Hollywoods.
As a kid this movie was one of my favorites
Glad this wasn't based on a true story. lol
Movies 2012 and Dantes Peak are both Great like Day After Tomorrow!!
This is literally starting to happen now!!!
Do more disaster movies ^^
I use this movie as a sleep movie. The opening song is such heavy nostalgia.
Snow Day where I live today. This is the perfect react video for it. Yay!
Where you at? Montana?
@@thekittygoesmeow9652 nope. Washington
Here in Toronto it's that day as well. We've barely had snow up here this winter and the Temps have been good.
Lol it happens; glad you enjoyed this one
BJ: If you enjoyed this genre (Earth catastrophe type) a lot; may I suggest into the voting pool 2020 "Greenland".
It's crazy cause the lightning and thunder relaxes me. I love them.
This is one of those movies whenever it's on TV I just put it on and do whatever I'm doing. Background noise.
Hey Asia and BJ I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to day after tomorrow. if you enjoyed this movie, I highly recommend reacting to the disaster flick “2012” it is in my opinion the best disaster movie of all time.
