This title is kinda misleading but I get where he's comin from. I thought voyager was pretty rad. I always kinda thought of DTOM and uplifter as the lower points of their career with universal pulse picking them back up into a good modern day sound moving forward. I'd rather have Feldman produce a few songs on their albums than ever have Bob Rock touch their stuff again. At least Feldy cared about the project and put 100% into everything even if there were some duds there. (On a roll, places the mind goes) Universal pulse was a great comeback record but Bob Rock did a horrible job on it. All those songs sound great live.
Agreed on Bob Rock. I know the band members speak kindly of working with Bob, but like he did with Metallica, he focuses too much on trying to commercialize and not get the best out of the artists. I love DTOM. Uplifter is my least favorite of their entire library. However, Uplifter's B-Sides, Get Down and Sun Come Through are the redeeming songs from the album imo. Shame they weren't released as singles. Sun Come Through is very high on my favorites list. I saw an interview with Nick recently where he talked about taking more time to get songs where they need to be and not rushing things out. Perhaps even releasing songs in smaller batches (4-5 at a time) once they are ready, instead of trying to always cram as many on an album as possible. Very interesting way to do it in today's digital realm, imo. 311. Peace. Love. Unity.
Uplifter is my least favorite album as well. Sun come through is definately better than most of the songs. The only song on uplifter I ever go back to is golden sunlight. I thought Voyager was great. Space and Time was one of the best modern day 311 songs to come out in awhile. It's right up there with wildfire. I know transistor is my favorite with grassroots at 2 and Soundsystem at 3. Evolver is super underrated too though.
Other than maybe 3 songs, I do not like Voyager at all. It came out out at a time in my life when I was getting over a rough patch and nothing sounded good to me at the time but some years later and I cannot connect with it at all.
I agree 100%. Rolling Through / Charge It Up / What The?! are the only listenable songs on that album imo. They need to quit all that tropical island sappy love song bullshit and give a treat to the fans who helped them get this far. Need a Transistor pt 2!
@brizzle3947 Nope ,you basically saying lies and samples have been used for years by rock bands. You actually are comparing a DJ beat song with 2 words in it and no guitars, and no anything . You don't see Metallica fans crying about Master of the Puppet having the same rythym as a David Bowie song or Nirvana's hit Smells like Teen Spirit''s drum rythym came from The Gap band.So yeah your perception of Crossfire is very narrow minded. Nive try tho hater.
@@Revoltmetal420 actually they’re correct, 311 never plays it, and issued an apology after it was surfaced that the song was lifted. The issue isn’t that it took inspiration from another song, like the 2 examples you’ve referenced, but instead that its an exact carbon copy of another song with 311 instrumentation and lyrics added overtop; to ice it off, 311 initially gave zero songwriting credit to the original artist. This was all cleared up, but Crossfire remains a low point in 311’s career.
@Gammarklar What are these lyrics you are talking about? 2 words that 311 never used? Completely different song ,but you go ahead and think DJ soundboard beats is the same as playing a guitar, cool story bro. Hope you didn't get a cramp with that stretch lol👌
@@Revoltmetal420 personally i dig the song but not the idea that they stole it from another artist without giving credit. You doubling down on your stance shows me you have limited knowledge of songwriting and chord progressions. It’s literally an exact carbon copy, with 311 just adding guitars/bass/drums over the original song’s existing chord progression/rhythms. And then yes they embellished some things. 311 even kept some of the synth samples and keyboard blips in there, it can all be heard by listening to both songs at same time or back to back, and it’s obvious. The band acknowledged it after the fact so not sure why you’re arguing.
All due respect, I didn't get the impression that he disliked it
clickbait at it's finest.
anyone else notice this video is 3:11
Doesn’t sound like he dislikes it, just wanted little more time to explore other ideas on the tracks
Pnut needs to do more slap bass. Mahoney needs to do more amazing solos like on Grassroots thru Transistor.
Words are hard

Uplifter is their worst record but Don’t Tread on Me is overly hated.
Stereolithic is the comeback record
WTAF?!? How did I not know PNut was on DWJ?!?!
two dudes from my two favorite bands. Sick.
311 should experiment with jazz more like the song Outside. That's the direction they should have gone after Soundsystem.
SUUUUNSHIIIINE why are you sleeping??? 🎵🎵 would love more in that style.
My guy doesn't dislike it... he just thought it could improve.
Voyager felt a bit rushed and i agree with that
No way….to me Voyager is one of their best ever, so many incredible songs in that record. Wouldn’t change a thing!
Looks like fingercuffs didn't make the cut :/
Voyager is a great album, sadly underrated by fans
ultra clickbait title
Voyager is an amazing record. I can't find a bad song on it 🐉🕉✨️
Infact I'm going to listen to it right now

Voyager is ok.
Fingercuffs lol 😂
Crossfire is underrated
311 band members are ashamed of Crossfire, because it is a straight plagiarized copy of the song "Heist" by Noisestorm.
