I traveled from New Jersey to Denver to visit family and heard U2 was in town. My buddies and I sat in the parking lot near one of the entrances just to listen. A man came up to us and gave us 3 tickets. He said his wife was in labor and he needed to go. It was only 3 of us so we went in at about the time the third song was over. Man we had a great night. Afterward I went to the nearest hospital in I believe golden and visited the man. I got his name and address and said to him 1 day you will..
What a show! Snowing just a thousand feet higher, they talked about postponining show.....Bono came on stage and said You showed up so were gonna play. You can see the bands breath and wet hair. Not even sold out. A historic show.
The unmolested , and honest U2. No one eyed, money loving selfish, throwing secret symbol, God hating, pre Mr Mcphisto alter ego Bono of today. I went to every tour since Joshua Tree (August 1st Edinburgh) but I never seen the OG U2 since Popmart , (possibly All that you can’t leave behind) That last tour I saw “innocence and experience” was probably the last I’ll ever pay for. 3 fans got kicked out of Glasgow Hydro arena for standing singing and dancing in the seated area.
My mom was front stage at this concert and is shown in this video a few times. Now I'm her age and am showing up early to see my favorite bands, in hopes I can have a memory like this too.

That's definitely true for a lot of post-punk music (which I'd say their first album certainly was), the guitar provided the atmosphere whereas the bass provided the groove and attitude that drove the song's feeling
Yeah the dissonance it has with the main riff is fantastic, There aren't really key with one another as pointed out by jimmy page and it gives the song this tension, brilliant
Yuri Ivanov I never heard or read anything about Adam implying he's this and that or being more that what he really is. Nobody is putting him above any other bassist for that matter that would warrant you to say that he is overrated.
+JimmY yeah that stuff used to happen to U2 a lot. In the DVD of Red Rocks they go off the stage and they get water and they figure out what they want to play next. Very unpredictable but it all came together to make an amazing concert.
+toasybutter 334 love it! It shows how real it is and the real talent that they have, nower days pop stars have to plan it before hand and make sure they press the play button for autotune at the right second while playing live, and the lights and smoke and glamour all cover up the talentless singers shitty voice and lyrics haha
I saw U2 2 years after in Bologna, Italy, same early tour: no special effects, no super productions, no thousands of people: we were about 3000 in a small circle tent theatre!!! Bono's charisma were probably grown and the impact of the band was explosive!!! Unforgettable fire!!!❤️
It WAS Cold! I was there... I was only 12 years old. Bono and the boys are little kids in this video--SO YOUNG! They have come so very far, and have remained solid, strong and united. BEST BAND. EVER.
I was working Red Rocks that night because no one had ever heard of these guys. One of the best jobs I had! My hope is that one day they will play the Rocks again, but I've heard them say they won't because they'll never recapture the magic of that night!
Absolutely love the look on Bono's face when Edge starts playing. He looks so excited to go back out and sing some more - almost like a kid - "I get to sing again!? Sweet!!" Yeah, I know, they are all still "kids" in this video.
Since I m 22., now 59🙈I hear this song. First LP under a blood red sky, same dvd and mp3. I have seen U2 five times live. So I am an expirianced Fan from Germany. But red rocks is the U2 Masterprace if you like pure music . My favorite till I die in a far future (hope so😅) Jochen
The genuine 'euphoric, surprised' look on Bono's face when Edge started the opening riff will always be legendary. I still wonder what happened as it appears that Bono is headed backstage and is literally surprised by the start of the tune. I am a fan since 1980 after a front row view of these guys fighting (only time ever apparently, at least in public) at Toads Place in New Haven CT...I have followed since.
The fact that this sounds like it could be off any one of their albums in the late 80's shows just how far ahead of their time this song was. No-one sounded like this in bloody 1980

I watch this once in a while to remind me of the time when I worshipped U2, and Camden Market on the weekends rang of Bonos glorious scream and The Edges heavenly guitar. Bonos charisma was messianic, until he started believing it.
To the Bono detractors, what would you rather he do? Be an a-hole like Axl Rose, father a child in every country like Mick Jagger (I realize that's an exaggeration)? Whenever I see people complain about Bono; I mean it's so annoying that ever since he took a trip to Africa in the 80s and witnessed children dying he's been trying to get other people to pay attention right?
U2 were great in the 80's but their time was up a long time ago. The thing with Bono is that he appears to jump on every issue or every fashion in an attempt to be relevant to the audience of the day, doesn't make him evil, but does make him appear to be not exactly genuine.
That's fair and I agree that it comes off as a bit preachy at times (I think even the other guys aren't as keen on the humanitarianism as he is) and I'm sure there's a business motive there as well but he's at least using his status to raise important and maybe uncomfortable issues, they are still selling out stadiums and songs like Streets, Pride, Bloody Sunday etc. , at least I feel, are still relevant today. I guess I just think this contempt (?) that some people seem to have for him or for U2, though they're free to like and dislike whomever they please, is unwarranted and maybe more rooted in the fact that they have been around for so long and it's just like - - - - off already. I get that in a sense but if they're still drawing crowds all over the world just let them do their thing.

I was so into U2 during this time period and they were not very popular in America yet so I actually went to a custom T-shirt shop and had my own U2 shirts made from their album covers. People at college would look at my shirt and go "what do you mean by 'you too, boy?'"
U2 singer Bono has said that he wrote the song from his mother's perspective and that it was about the unconditional love a mother has for her child. His mother died following her own father's funeral when Bono was fourteen, which the singer says plunged him into emotional turmoil for the next few years. The song features the lyrics "his mother takes him by his hand" and "If you walk away, I will follow"
@markaruski I went to the Stones about a month ago at Gillette Stadium. First concert in almost 20yrs for me. I guess everybody holds up their phone flashlight these days.. It was much more intimate / different atmosphere back when ppl held up lighters.
Before true stadium rocking....megalomania kicked in...they were a band to be unrivalled, especially when their nascent anthemic post punk glistened under a wet...blood red sky...remarkable
@monsterinyourpocket same with me... i was around 8 or 9.. now i am 20 and through the years, U2 has stayed with me. I will always go back to them toremember my childhood, the good, the bad, the perfect. U2 has been there through it all. I could never leave them, because they've never left me :)
That was the BEST thing that woman probably ever did...jumping up on stage like that and hugging Bono! Way to live it up! I wonder what she is doing now?
I think some ppl are confusing purity with youth. Of course youth is wonderful, no big secret there(!!!)... U2 are accused of selling out, BUT, what about their (once,"when they were pure") Fans? WHO REALLY SOLD OUT??? Is U2 still pure, ARE THEY STILL PLAYING THEIR HEARTS OUT on stage??- definitely so!!! Are they perceived as not pure because they're older now (EVERYONE changes as they get older~ look at YOURSELVES)~~yeah!!
Nice comment, but "pure" kind of means "innocent" to me. And they were innocent. Not that they aren't nowadays, but I don't get the same vibes. They are experienced now, have less energy...
Back in the early days, they would play this 2 or 3 times in one show. This was my introduction to the band I would see live 7 times, including 3 times in '87. That was before I got married!

I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
U2 seems to match the energy and strength of Bono’s voice.. They were so powerful at this stage... and went more mellow as his voice deteriorated... a theory by me...
Groups like U2 had a huge impact on me!. I'm some of the fans who had a chance to witness real videos on MTV and other video channels. My only regret I have not had a chance to see them live. I hope TH-cam will please keep our group and fan videos up!! Due to the networks "not" showing videos we fans have to flock to sites like TH-cam. I say thank you for now because I can see some videos here♥
I'm seeing U2 on 15 November, I can't wait, I'm so excited. I hope they play this song. Under A Blood Red Sky and Boy are probably my favourite albums.

This is the best version of the song and better than the live version on the cd.
my fav song from guitar acoustics view. The delayed effect of guitar sounds really made it their signature.
The drumming on this song is as good as it gets, which is amazing because they were teens when they wrote this song. A classic.
Solid
You should listen to more drumming then. 😂

I think this was when U2 was So AMAZING. Best of tunes back then..2020
I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?

Bono's face at the beginning is KILLING me
One of the best live albums
Greatest band in the world. Punk rock routes.
and Bono moves and dance so special , like no one else in the hole world!!! and he still do!! :)))
U2 seems to match the energy and strength of Bono’s voice..
They were so powerful at this stage... and went more mellow as his voice deteriorated...
a theory by me...
I don't think his voice deteriorated after the War era, he just explored other range especially in lower keys (and higher key with his falsetto).
I dedicate this song to my Mother! Thank you!
Hell yeah. Never gets old
It looks cold - I'm from Montana, so I know what it's like to be in the Rockies. Doesn't matter what time of year...when night comes, it gets cold.
La cante con toda mi alma y pulmón en tus conciertos. Love youuuuu U2 forever!!!!
I want crazy when I heard this unbelievable live song ..somewhere in 1984..I was 17 by than... :)
From 1980 till Now. WOW!!
Making More Magnificent Music.
Storming Sensational Super Sizzling Song.
