That's stupid, my comment keeps getting deleted by TH-cam but whatever, the point is that bridge pickup on The Edge's Gibson Korina Explorer is top-notch; a lot of warmth, a lot of range in both bass and treble. Fantastic staple of U2's early sound :)

He bought it on a family holiday to New York in the 70s. I think he went into the shop with the intention of getting a Les Paul but, when he saw the Explorer, there was a change of plan.

Red Rocks amphitheater is perfectly tuned for the midrange & treble 'wash' of bands like U2. Also anything with strings. Bass doesn't bounce as well, and really screaming/wailing lead guitars or soprano voices are deafening in the reverb. But a nice 'chka chka chka chka' rhythm guitar, tenor voice, sharp drumming, & lush keyboards/strings fit the venue sooo well. It's like the world's biggest DELAY pedal.😀 Local band DeVotchKa, with the CSO:

And I still play and discreetly dance behind closed windows to their early stuff. Musically though, they were pretty simple. They then went through that commercial sell out period (Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum...when I traveled 100 miles to see them in Pittsburgh, but los Lobos was more fun as an opening act), then they got to the point, they could dictate terms. Then they could creative again. What I was astounded by was, how many Irish people didnt like them. Bought this album at in '85 at K-Mart when I was twelve. I brought it to every pre-teen/teen
house party probably until I was 16 or so. This was an authentic "rock-and-roll" moment I can never forget. Finally re-purchased the vinyl a couple of years ago and for some reason FOR ME (although I'm not some audiophile vinyl snotb) this album for me must be played on vinyl.

This is a masterpiece of a performance. What a close call@2:02 when the guy in the audience tries to grab Bono's microphone. If he we would've got it, they may have scrapped this song from the video and we may have never seen this. I don't know if that's just luck or divine intervention, but very thankful the guy didn't get the mic.
