    Is the McLaren lithium battery a lifepo4 or nmc chemistry?

    Does the CTEK trickle charging regime still apply John? Just wondering if the rate at which the lead acid one loses charge is similar to the Lithium one? asking for a friend just in case its a really stooopid question :-)

      TBH… I leave all my cars on trickle…Ferrari and Lotus. Also my GR Yaris…. Basically any car that isn’t regularly used… lead iron or Lithium.

    Could you also replace it with a non McLaren lithium ion or other lightweight battery and just turn off the „battery monitor function as described?

      Dont see why not, but weve not tested that yet.

    Just to add to the tail of woe that is high performance car main dealer (rip off) service.
    My Ferrari is in at the moment. Left it there two weeks ago as they “were very busy’ even though I’d booked it in October 🤨… they then call me and say “lots of low battery faults, we need to test the unit at cost of £125”…. To which I said, nope you are having a laugh, a new one (which that unit is) only cost about £90….
    Needless to say, the list of none Maintenance Schedule items that are only “advisory items for a car this age but still need doing” (i.e. not included in their 7 years pre-paid maintenance plan) was quoted at £3,500 …. 😡 . Hummm, off to the local specialist for that lot then… 🤓
    So it’s not just Macca main dealers that take the piss…

    Which battery can I put in? But I can buy only classic AGM battery. With which power can I change it? It's for 570s 2017. Thanks for video!

      That was just what we had lying about, any 12v battery will work but does need some mix and match in terms of size, we are developing a universal bracket to enable you to use any 12v

    Hi
    Thanks for the video and information. I bought a single vin Diagcode and changed the battery as the TIB suggested and coded the ecu to lead acid H8. But having a Permanent linbus fault. Is this normal or does it need any other coding? Don't have any McLaren dealers in Norway so have try my best by myself.

    • @johnthorne2920
      @johnthorne2920 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We dont use Diagcode I'm afraid but you need to code out the LION battery first before you remove it and then code in the lead acid

    Hi! I have a problem with the roof, windows, and sometimes PCC fault on my mclaren 650s . These problems have any link with the battery because i changed the original battery . Check engine is on too

    • @ThorneyMotorsport
      @ThorneyMotorsport  ปีที่แล้ว

      if you have a check engine light on then you'll need to see what that is, PCC wont be battery related, window might, roof unlikely.

    I’m on my 3rd lithium ion battery in 5 months. My 12C only wants to charge the battery when the rpm is 3k and above. There are no codes showing on the diagnostics. At idle speed the voltage dips down and the battery eventually goes flat. I live 3.5 hours from the nearest Mclaren dealer. I purchased used 720S alternator and I’m starting to believe that the second 720S alternator isn’t any good. Maybe I should buy a brand new alternator and try it.

    I need this. Have a 570S battery went flat, and threw BMS fault and stalk fault and indicator faults with it. Bought a brand new battery from Mclaren ($4,000)… worked for about a month and threw the codes again …. Bought an emulator thinking that would work, but the faults are still there. I’m from Texas. Does the vehicle need to be present? Or can you do it remotely?

    • @ThorneyMotorsport
      @ThorneyMotorsport  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the car drives fine but just has the fault codes then a lot will go away after a few ignition cycles. The rest will need the diagnostic kit (MDS or other). Iur dealer in Scottsdale maybe able to help, that's the nearest we have at the moment. Drop me an email and I will see what can be done. Keep the old battery, chances are it's fine

    • @ThorneyMotorsport

      Really doubt it needs a battery, just charge direct to the battery terminals and that will recover it most likely

    • @BAC_Mono
      @BAC_Mono หลายเดือนก่อน

      The lithium charger for my BAC Mono has this same specific instruction printed on it. I think when it’s completely flat the BMS computer in the battery won’t boot so it can’t ‘talk’ to the charger. The fix is just to use a dumb charger to put some charge in then it will fire up and you can continue with the lithium charger.
      Does that sound right?
