As useful as ever. McLaren warranty is turning into a lottery. Another thing to look out for when buying a pre-owned car.

Also, the fact that the attachment bolts milled recess' are left with effectively sharp edges where the bolt head lands so always a potential stress area. They seem to crack there even when fitted with no shims fitted.
    Basic engineering error.

"Flexing like an F1 wing would do". I see what you did there...
I fully agree that shims are a problem in this application if they're simply flat and only used at one location. In theory, a series of shims in all the holes that are graded to mimic a flat plane after fitment would be fine, but tedious to place.

I had the hinges on my 600LT replaced last year with the GT hinges - is this the new design you are referencing, or this there a different part?

You’re making some great videos with some great content, please upgrade your camera though!

Would a shim with a larger surface area be an acceptable compromise?
It would support the casting over a larger area, which could move the fulcrum so there is less leverage effect, and it would keep the fix down in terms of time.

Thanks for the update, I would not be happy if they are double cost from McLaren and not resolving the issue. Are there any cases of replacements also failing or is it too early to say?

Does it affect soft close doors?

I’ve now had three…allegedly 🤔. Had passenger door replaced 18 months ago, along with some “rust” paintwork. I noticed this April I had ‘rust” again on same panels and took it back to dealer. It’s an MY2018 570 Spyder and just past 14,000 miles. They fixed the paint and also said I needed both hinges. I was very annoyed as the passenger door is probably used 1 in 50 times I drive the car; so very infrequently. I am a Nazi when it comes to ensuring the doors aren’t slammed down too. I literally threw my toys out the pram and McLaren paid 75% of cost… which to me is still taking the piss as this is clearly DESIGN FAULT. Note; I worked in a foundry as a student making boilers…. They operated at 100’c for 25 years technically submerged in water without failure 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just watched Harry’s Garage and was struck by the fact his 40 year old Countach hasn’t had an issue with its door hinges once 🧐….
