Yep, literally no reason to run the HKS plugs. NGK is the largest OE when it comes to plugs in the world, and it's what comes standard. It's just straight up dishonest for the tuning companies to claim you need the HKS plugs.
You don't need hks plugs, but you need one step colder plugs. Running a “colder” heat range spark plug will reduce temperatures in the combustion chamber by wicking more heat into the cylinder head. This reduces feedback knock and fine knock learning when running gasoline tunes.

We all went the NGK route and we saw an extreme amount of spark plug failures where the ceramic fails and drops off the tip of the plug this has happened to me and many of my customers over the years. The preferences of the tuners stem from the HKS being the solution to ceramic cracking and failing. HKS is NGK but built with custom specifications. Of course there is a VW GTI in the driveway :) ! If I buy the EN I would be coming from VW/Audi also and I think it would feel natural, especially since my last VW was the GLI but the EN is a MUCH better GLI in my opinion. It is what the GLI should've morphed into, better seats, more power, more sound, more track focused.
FYI ...Just changed to this plug in My 18' E.S. DCT with no tune D.P, intake, exhaust. Just the plugs make a hell of a difference to smooth out any boost surging, inconsistency, and much more consistent response on light tip in from a stop as well as seem to boost full power. Even the DCT is upshifting to second sooner on light take off instead of that weird holding first a hare too long and taking timing feeling, dont know why that is but it really refines the throttle engine relationship like when using higher octane fuel, but not.

@@mostwantedm3 In situations where extreme mods are done, I agree. Nobody is doing serious mods to these cars. Intake, exhaust and tune is pretty basic stuff. Most ECU "tunes" dont do as much as you think. Things like an access port are basically just glorified boost controllers. Spending $1000 on a tune that probably does very little other than add boost is robbery. Modern ECUs do most of the actual work. You can throw an old fashioned manual boost controller or map clamp on there for $20 and get the same performance results. The computer is not going to let the car blow up. It always monitors the MAF, MAP and AFRs. Meaning it will adjust to any amount of boost you throw at it within its limits. I am willing to bet one of these cars lined up against a car with a JB4 would be no faster. I had the fastest mazdaspeed 3 in the country for several years. What about all of the security/immobilizer/key pairing stuff? Now, if we can get the manufacturers to make/sell wagon (long roof) versions of these cars (Including Golf.:R and WRX) in the US; that would be fantastic. As far as HKS junk, they do it all the time; contract out a part, have it made for them, then put their name on it, then demand a premium for it. I don't trust HKS anything as there are always better alternatives. Are you going to change the BIG-3 ground wires to or add up-sized grounding wires in the engine bay? @@sufficetosay all you got to do is put old ecu in car and do 50-75 start cycles as most won’t go back more then 25 start cycles when checking ECU/PCM. They normally print 1-2 pages depending on program it’s 12-20 logs per sheet. Some dealerships don’t even check the ECU/PCM logs
@@ronnienasci9664 this is interesting and also the first time Ive found specific info on the subject. How sure are you of this?
I have a 22 Veloster N myself. It's had a tuned ECU from LAP3 Performance in it for a while. Since putting it in. I've had 2 warranty claims on the car for failed fuel injectors. The only way they would be able to tell that I had been running a tuned ECU at all is to have their 1 guy that can mine data come and analyze the black box. They are so busy, they most likely will never do that. I haven't been sweating them even thinking about it at all.
Have you done that octane learning on the car yet ? Apparently that will run a bit more boost from 16psi to just under 20
Will did a write up on it here - www.reddit.com/r/ElantraN/comments/wxmvyf/octane_learning_and_you_what_it_is_and_what_it/?
i’m pretty sure it could push some more psi if octane learned
How does this spare ecu tune from Sxth compare to the Burger Tuning JB4? Which is better
Does the flash/tune do away with octane learning and keeps peak boost constant at 20psi?
Yes
Do you this these could get carbon buildup in the intake valves in future? I dont think these have port injectors like toyotas do
6 months later. What’s the updated perspective? Any issues at all? Thanks!
Literally no issues with the tune at all. Still hauls a** :)
If something goes wrong with the power train can I swap it back to stock ecu and keep warranty?
Did you change the gap on the NGK plugs?
Nope, they came pre-gapped.
Hey man where can I get one of these for my Hyundai Elantra 2019 SE?
I know they're completely different, but would you compare the Veloster N more to a Civic Type R or Civic Si in terms of performance and driver feel?
Elantra**
Hey man, I'm taking your advice on not buying HKS spark plugs. I'm having a hard time locating those NGKs though. Do you have a direct link to where you purchased yours?
🔥🔥🔥 thanks guys
Could I do a stage 1.5 tune with cold air intake, turbo inlet and catless Downpipe ?
Well the hks plugs are shorter than the ngk so I won’t use them pulls the spark out from the cube
LOL what. No. There is a video showing the difference. HKS is a much beefier plug.
Cool video...do you have the link for the battery
Do you happen to know if these same plugs work on the N Line? I'm tuned with a JB4, but need to upgrade my plugs but don't want to waste money on the HKS.
Even the DCT is upshifting to second sooner on light take off instead of that weird holding first a hare too long and taking timing feeling, dont know why that is but it really refines the throttle engine relationship like when using higher octane fuel, but not.
thanks so much for this video i was just thinking which ecu tune to get
From what I understand hks plugs have ran the best as hks according to all the research I've done . But as a g70 genesis owner has is what everyone recommends over 400hp.
Did you have to cycle the system a couple times before starting the car, like push the start button a couple times and wait and THEN start it🤔
It took one cycle before it started. We let it idle for awhile and it was good to go!
@@pattyboi ...and no CEL? I ask because another You Tuber had a CEL because of no VIN# added or not cycling the assesory on and off or something.
@@klasseact6663 I'll ask my brother if he's seen a CEL one sec
@@klasseact6663 Yep, confirmed he has not had a CEL and he's put a couple hundred miles on it. SXTH does ask for a VIN to match the ECU, maybe something went wrong there with the other guy?
@@klasseact6663 The CEL was because the VIN was not inputted. Believe it's now been resolved.
Dude that thing moves!!
Those tires look chubbier than those on the “wheels and tire” video. 265?
any other ecu tune for the elantra n is as easy as this install ? Just taking out the stock ecu and installing the new one ?
Good stuff, it sounds even a bit different. Does it still have as much crackle and bang or can that be removed or lessed with a the tune. I hate those annoying sounds . Few pops here there is fine with me.
What's this SXTH stage 1 specs? HP? TQ?
You can choose to keep the stock crackle map, or do slight crackle boost, or do a big crackle boost. We'll get a true virtual dyno when we get their handheld device!
I think he mentioned +60whp in the video which sounds about right for 4-5 more psi. Only thing I really wouldn't like is the torque steer.
@@pattyboi did you guys manage to get an ek1 for the last batch of 2022?
@@shaneinfinity4597 we did! Will had to set a reminder and he ordered it as soon as they opened up but we'll be filming that soon!
@@pattyboi Nice! I set an alarm for mine as well. Just got the ECU and EK1 in today
Do they raise the RPM limit so you can go higher speeds or is it still stuck at 155 MPH?
That I do not know. For me, there's not really a track on this side of the country where you would hit that, so it's not really a concern. I'm sure SXTH would know.
Most tuners unlock the factory speed limiter, granted my experience is in the vag world.
It's an option to raise rpm limit to 7200.
I would be curious if this makes any more power than a JB4. The JB4 cant change the rev limit, but adds a good deal of power for less $$.
ecu tune always does better than piggy back options
While everyone else was spending thousands on fancy tunes, I ran a MAP clamp and manual boost controller.
@@boost331 I had a whole thing typed for this long winded reply, and once I read it again, I just had to delete it and move on. You really typed a whole lot of nothing
@@mostwantedm3 Moral of the story is 99% of people will get just as much benefit from a piggy back or $20 of old school products. If you prefer to spend $1000 when $20 gets the same results, thats all good. The economy thanks you. Happy modding. 👍
I real tune can give you a 7200rpm redline. A JB4 can't do that.
Where can I buy that battery? Is it in stores?
Does anyone make bushings yet to fix the wheel hop issues?
Rear motor mount upgrades? Civics have a ton of options.
Hey are you guys worried about the HPFP with the Stage 1 tune? Are you going to upgrade the fuel pump at all?
Not worried on Stage 1. Data logs are super clean, though I'll definitely be upgrading it when I'm Stage 2+ this summer.
Even though you got a extra unlocked ecu the dealer can find out you swapped them specifically when the mileage on car doesn’t match up to ecu say my car has 3200 miles on it now and I swap out a fresh unlocked ecu with zero miles. Red flag
If you wanna play you gotta pay.
The new ecu drops mileage on the dash back to zero??!!
What are those wheels? I wanna get that exact set for myself.
Will this void any dealership warranties? Or do you change out to stock ECU before taking it back to the dealer for services?
Changing anything ECU related voids the warranty.
thank for be honest. please continue be true👍
I’m new on this channel n I’m looking to get the same car is this the only stage tune they take? And is this all you’ve done to the car
I have an Elantra N also, Mind if I ask about your wheel and tire specs? I am thinking of getting rid of my 19s
For sure! They're WedsSport TC105X 18x9 ET45 w/ 245/40/18 RT660.
@@williamrori1274 thank you so much
Where did you get that ECU? I'm thinking about going that same route
literally says in the video title what brand it is. I say go Lap3 before SXTH.
I'm talking about the ecu. That's the tune it has, the actual ecu is an oem ecu with the sxth tune flashed on it I'm looking where to get the actual spare oem ecu
How much wheel horsepower does is this supposed to add? Looks awesome!!! Are Spark plugs a must have with this tune?
Their website says 300whp with just the stage 1. We'll test that soon!
Closer to 320-330 whp for the Elantra N/Kona N. Yes, one step colder plugs are a must for Stage 1 and above.
A guy on Reddit dynod 310 to the wheels with stage 1, intake and bov.
What was the mod list at the time of recording I want my EN to be like this when I get it but I don’t want to lose the warranty
At this point it was just the SXTH Element Stage 1 tune, NGK spark plugs, and a SXTH Element rear motor mount. The car was quick, fun, and dead reliable with those mods.
@@williamrori1274 was your warranty voided?
@@Brian_9288 There's no such thing as a blanket voided warranty. You can; however, have individual warranty claims denied due to modifications. That being said, I never had a warranty claim ever denied even after adding intercooler, downpipe, upgraded HPFP etc.
@@williamrori1274 wow that’s incredible I work for Kia/hyundai parts I’m waiting for the employee pricing to come out this fall for the 24 EN’s
what technology are those lighter car battery using? I'm trying to find one like that in Europe
The chemical makeup is LiFePO4. Lithium iron phosphate. Slightly lower energy density than LiPO4, but much more stable no chance of thermal events.
Love the car.
There have been some issues with the ngk spark plugs on tuned cars. The tuner only uses them on stock cars now.
Just a heads up the issue is that the ngk are missing a shield and that can cause issues

Hey from you perspective having driven both, how do you compare the GR86 vs the elantra N?
Elantra N is a much better value for a daily driver. More tech, safety, performance, ease of driving. GR86 is a great car that's a lot more fun on track and promotes better learning to drive fast (no cheating eLSD doing a lot of the work)
@@pattyboi Thanks a ton for the reply! Love your vids.
To go stage 1 in the Elantra N, are new plugs needed in order for the engine to run properly?
Recommended. N75 also recommends an upgraded fuel pump.
Do you run a catch can on this? I tried one and felt it had more turbo lag? Needed to pressurise the can .. thoughts??
Lol there is no boost going through a catch can 😅😅
But there is.. the manifold is pressurised and the catch can connected to manifold
Thanks so much for this
What about all of the security/immobilizer/key pairing stuff? Now, if we can get the manufacturers to make/sell wagon (long roof) versions of these cars (Including Golf.:R and WRX) in the US; that would be fantastic. As far as HKS junk, they do it all the time; contract out a part, have it made for them, then put their name on it, then demand a premium for it. I don't trust HKS anything as there are always better alternatives. Are you going to change the BIG-3 ground wires to or add up-sized grounding wires in the engine bay? I am amazed how potent these cars actually are and that Hyundai puts their money where their mouth is and races the platform.
