    Our puppy, 11 week old Ginger is a cavapoo. She has aced sit and loves her "house" crate. We started training on the "transport" crate yesterday...and found string cheese was just the right value treat to keep her engaged in that game. These videos are awesome!

    I've been working on these the last few weeks with my 11-week-old, lab puppy. She's got a decent understanding of using the bells to go outside and walking on the treadmill too.
    I made "Drop It" a lot more reliable, by making it part of our fetch routine. Every time, it's "Go Get It", "Bring It Back", "Drop It", and "Sit". For the first couple days, I'd drop a treat when saying "Drop It". After that, she was so used to the routine, she didn't need the treats anymore.
    Thanks for your helpful videos.

    Lou a Great Pyrenees 15 wks just demonstrated his first counter surfing! For a timid little guy I was very surprised that he was brave enough to climb up there! His snuffle mat was the main goal of his adventure. He is getting braver every day!

    I just got an 8 week old Rough Collie puppy last week, and I'm very proud to say that Meatloaf is very good about telling us he has to go potty outside! He's also very good at telling us when he see's a cat, or a deer, or a bug, or his own reflection lol. My last puppy was a yellow lab, and we had him for 14 years, so I haven't "raised" a puppy since I was 12. I'm very excited to work with him and watch him grow into a big fluffy boy! We're currently working on sit, leave it (being get your butt away from that), and crate. We never used a crate for our lab, but I think it's going ok? He likes to chew on his bone in the crate, and he naps there sometimes during the day, but at night he cries and whines like he's dying. I take him out every 2 - 2.5 hours to do business, but it seems like it's taking him longer and longer to settle every night :( The crate really is JUST until he's old enough to hold his pee through the night though... Butters slept on my bed every night, and I plan to let Meatloaf do the same once I know he won't pee on my blankets or try to nibble my phone charger.

      I love the names you come up with! You know I love food names for dogs. Pickles is my Cavalier. So glad to hear you're working on this life skill! Crate training is so useful for post spay/neuter surgery, emergencies, when pups can't be left alone out of a crate due to destructive nature, or safety concerns.

    Found the channel, love the tips. Any ideas for helping my pup (9wk lab) at night? We stop food or water about 7, and she usually sleeps until about 10, after I take her out to potty she sleeps until about 3 and then whines to get out, I tried letting her cry to sleep but after an hour she didn't stop and turns out she peed in her crate.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately that advice will put him at a real disadvantage for reacting to new things for a lifetime. There's a critical window in which you can teach him more confidence and help him feel positively about new things. That window closes around 16 weeks of age. There is a way to take him outside - safely - before all his shots are complete. This video explains how to do that: th-cam.com/video/vybaTk4wdGA/w-d-xo.html

    I have a 12 week old GSD puppy right now. We have been doing puppy preschool classes which helps a lot. I work with him constantly at home and know I have a good foundation coming along. I am nervous on picking which training step to take. The preschool recommended private lessons. My family member has had success like this. Will I be able to get the same out of your puppy program with just zoom?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @slything Great question! I love that you have been doing some initial training on your own. The Pro-Level is a great next step as you'll not only get the instructional how-to videos but access to the Facebook student group where you can post questions and practice videos, and where the trainers can answer your questions and give you feedback on your homework. You also get to join the student group Zoom calls which are super informative and give you a chance to talk directly with the trainers. With a private trainer, you pay a large sum of money to visit with a trainer for a short time, you only have what you can remember and the sessions are either pay as you go or one large lump sum. Our Pro-Level program gives you access to the trainers for 3 months, you could add on another month for less than what a trainer might charge for one hour of time. Here's the link if you'd like to learn more about the program www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/

    Ok but how do you get a 6year old maltipoo to just walk without constantly stopping to pee on everything. If we don’t encourage him to walk, he will just stay on our block and never really walk.
    If we are generous with treats, and encouragement he will easily walk a few miles perfectly. But getting going is always tough

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dogs like to sniff and pee on things. Walking is not the fun part for them. We recommend decompression walks where you let the dog go at his pace and explore all he wants. Distance does not matter for dog walks. He also might be a little overstimulated from the neighborhood. Check out decompression walk info here: th-cam.com/video/mDsxEubfEKQ/w-d-xo.html

    Uhhhhhhh........I actually don't use crates

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing that! Using a crate is an essential part of raising and training a puppy. When used correctly with the proper training, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble. Crates are the safest place for your puppy when you are away from home. Something to think about!
      The crate will also be used in many situations throughout your dog’s life, including medical appointments, surgery recovery, travel, grooming and even in the event you need to evacuate due to a natural disaster. Those situations are already stressful and if your puppy is comfortable in the crate, it can definitely help you and the pup.
