  • How to quickly record electronic drum kit!
    Get asked all the time how best to record drums/drum covers by guys with e-kits. My answer is stereo output from your drum sound module, straight into the IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo, a 2 channel interface which runs directly into your iPhone (or whatever phone/computer/camera you’re using to record your video). This’ll cause your phone to record direct audio from your drum sound module, which will be perfectly synced up with your video. Amazing and unbelievably useful bit of kit for quick recording of drum covers, practice sessions etc 🥁
    You can buy the iRig Pro Due here: amzn.to/33SfxYx
    And you can watch my video tour of my electronic kit here: • Tour Of My Electronic ...
    Kit I’m using here is as follows:
    Roland td-11 Sound Module
    Roland V-Cymbals
    Roland PD128S V-Pad 12" Mesh Head Snare Drum Pad
    Drumtec Diabolo electronic kick drum and toms
    Thanks so much for watching and hope this was useful. Have fun please and let me know if any questions, cheers!

      @@SukrinoRahman Yes. I actually use it in two different ways you'll see in videos on this channel...
      1) For drum kit recorded in stereo: L and R outputs from drum module going into inputs 1 and 2 on iRig Pro Duo (as you say)
      2) For mono drums plus vocal mic: L/mono output on drum module to channel 1 on iRig, vocal mic into channel 2.

      Usually, I just have the backing track simply running from my laptop into the drum module via the "mix in"/"aux in" socket. The iRig would then simply record the kit and the track together, i.e. everything that the module is outputting. That doesn't allow for any level adjusting afterwards though - so you need to be happy with the level of the track when recording. I use that method for everyday vids and I'd say it works just fine. Here's an example of a recording done like that: th-cam.com/video/LiL6HRBoxm8/w-d-xo.html (or tbh any vid on this channel where I'm playing on the e-kit along to music!) Cheers.

I run it through the Td11 so it's similar to the drumtec stuff, but I use acoustic cymbals! I think the sound is great too when playing live through a pa, it's very controllable. Hey, Mike. Im using a Irig but im having trouble separating the backing track from my drum sounds. when I record, it picks up my backing track, as well as my playing. How can I fix it to where I can still here my music and my drums, but my drums are the only thing being recorded?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So the iRig is a very simple bit of kit, it will record whatever’s running through it. If you’ve got your backing track running into the “mix in” on your sound module, the iRig will record that too. As I say in this vid it won’t give you any post-production possibilities, but if you get the levels right in the first place it will work. If you really want to be able to control your drums and backing track separately, you’ll need to use a sequencer/DAW of some sort and line the two things up afterwards. Cheers!

      The answer is no, as far as I’m aware you can’t use your phone to both play the backing track on Spotify and record video with the iRig. There are plenty of other options though. You can transfer your backing track to a USB stick, plug that into the Roland module and then the iRig will pick it up. Or just run the track from a laptop/different device etc :)

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With 2 channels, you can obviously record 2 instruments/microphones, or you can record your kit in stereo - you can pan your toms and cymbals in various positions from hard left to hard right and hear that stereo spread, which is always nice.
      But if your kits sound good, then mono is still gonna sound perfectly fine. For most of my videos using V-drums I've recored the drums in mono, because I'm using the other channel on the iRig Pro Duo for my vocal mic.
      So it boils down to how much do you value stereo sound/the ability to add another instrument or mic into your recording. Cheers man!

    Is it possible to get an electric kit with a ride cowbell?

      Hi there, as in a ride and cowbell sound together? Probably! but it's not on my sound module :) Lots of possibilities exist for sampling sounds and layering them up, so there would be a way, although it's not something I've ever done! Cheers.

    Hi, I'm struggling to find an irig that will be compatible with my Samsung a50 that uses a c type charging port.
    However, I found a device called Go Guitar which seems like the same type of interface as Irig.
    Could you tell me if I can use Go Guitar in the same way as Irig to record videos please?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums

      Never used Go Guitar but if it accepts a 1/4 inch jack input, I'm assuming it'll work. Will only be in mono though if only one input. Cheers!

      Hey, thanks for getting back!
      I found the Go Guitar Pro, which has 2 × 1/4 inch jack sockets. One with a guitar symbol, and one with an amplifier symbol.
      Could you tell me if this would give me a stereo sound when recording please.
      Thanks

    Hi Mike
    If you record with your phone and let's say you run a drumless song on a laptop through the mix in, does the irig also capture the drumless song you are playing along with? So, in the end, can you have the song youre playing to, your drums from the module and the video in 1 single recording?
