    In this video I talk about the year I've had with the Wagner W100 electric spray gun. I demonstrate its multiple uses for spraying a variety of liquids including: fence panel paint, wood treatments, primer undercoat, emulsion, satin gloss and metal paint before giving a conclusion as to whether or not I'd recommend it. I hope you enjoy the video and please give it a thumbs up and maybe even consider subscribing to the channel. Best wishes, Leo

    Hello folks, I’ve done a short follow up video following a question from a subscriber asking: ‘Will it spray masonry paint?’. I done a quick experiment and here is the link:

      Thanks Andy, glad it was some use. I might do a follow up video in the future on some other bits and pieces about it. If you do get one, I really recommend purchasing another nozzle and container as it makes cleaning and maintenance so much easier. I just bought one last week off Amazon and the container was the larger 800ml capacity which was great for painting the fence panels. Nozzle and container was about £21, well worth the extra investment 😀😀

    Thanks for the shout out again Leo. 👍 Wow, I hadn't realised how much it has gone up in price! I bought 1 and then went back and bought another once I realised how good it was from Homebase when they were clearing stock, I bought mine for £25 and that was marked down from £45. But worth every penny as you say 😀

    Great review as always Leo that is the only problem with youtube reviews they are helpful with helping to decide what to purchase but it doesn't take long for sellers to cotton on to it when demand for a product suddenly goes up it doesn't take long for the price to go up as well may be to do with the covid 19 situation but i wouldn't be surprised if the price doesn't come down have seen many price increases after watching tool reviews and difficulty getting a product if you don't buy it quickly look forward to the next video 👍🔨

    Great job Leo. I’ve often wondered about sprayers, I have often used spray cans, but they usually turn out expensive. For me I keep humming and hawing between on of those and getting a compressor.

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got a small compressor Tony since getting my vacuum clamps and I’ll probably invest in a large compressor when the workshop is eventually built. Can’t fault the Wagner at all though. Considering the price I paid and it’s versatility it is a cracking piece of kit😀

    • @tonyalways7174
      @tonyalways7174 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went through the same thought process but eventually chose the electric route even though I have a compressor in my workshop. You cant run a compressor off an extension lead plus even a 24l tank is a heavy bit of kit if you want to work outside workshop environment whereas a simple extension lead will do for this. Good luck with whatever you choose

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony InAngus Torally agree Tony. If I had one major criticism of the Wagner though is the electric cable is stupidly too small. I’m not asking for an extra 3 metres on the cable, but 0.5m would make a big difference then you aren’t constantly lifting the extension cable socket up when spraying a little bit higher

    • @tonyalways7174
      @tonyalways7174 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hand-i-Craft actually it really irritated me because it seems like they saved 20 pence and or forgot the user perspective: 2.5m would have been ideal IMO. Not everyone’s choice but I cut the cable and added a flex connector box to a longer lead and made it a 3m cable. On balance it is still a good tool however even with the short lead 👍🏻

    Great review, I was just considering buying it for my furniture renovations. I have two questions: what about shellac-based lacquers? And question how to clean it to make it useful for years? And maybe one more: is any time limit for one take usage - di you notice after any time the quality of the painting is changing or maybe the sprayer is over heating?

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cheers Kordian for the message. I’ve used it for oil based finishes and no problems at all. what I would say for more delicate spraying like furniture, make sure you have it on its lowest setting as it is quite a powerful machine. In terms of cleaning, for water based products it is just warm water sprayed through and for oil based I use warm water mixed with some white spirit. It’s never overheated and I’ve used it for some seriously prolonged periods of time. Finally what I would recommend is you can purchase another nozzle with a larger container off Amazon for around £21. I done this and use one nozzle for water based and one for oil based. You don’t have to do this but for the cost of another nozzle it is well worth it 👍

    • @Hand-i-Craft

      pavre69 Hello pavre, thanks for the message. The simple answer here is to try yourself and experiment on scraps of wood / MDF / metal or whatever you’re painting and get used to the appropriate mix ratios for whatever paint you’re using. What I will say is if your are spraying emulsion / satinwood then provided you get an appropriate paint to water mix ratio suitable for the sprayer, you will get a lot more out of a tin of paint than simply rolling or brush painting.

      Morning Clive, sorry for the late reply but I’ve been mad busy working on my workshop. Personally I used Leyland acrylic primer undercoat (which can be mixed with water for the sprayer) and tbh for the top coat I’d recommend either Johnstone’s Trade or Leyland Trade emulsion (again either can be mixed with water for the sprayer). Avoid the likes of Dulux, especially that easy care stuff which has the consistency of treacle and is awful. You might need to go to a timber merchant, possibly Amazon sell them, but likely not to get in B&Q etc as they push the likes of Dulux. You’ll never see a tradesman using Dulux and there is a reason for that. Prices are similar too. Hope this is of some help, Leo 😀👍

    Bought one of these last week to do 7 fence panels. Ended up using 8 litres of Ronseal One Life for the first coat. The stuff came out uneven and was a nightmare. Then when cleaning it i noticed the small clear hose on the side had a kink in it so i took it off, got the kink out of it and put it back on. 2nd coat took 5 litres and went on much smoother and more evenly.
    Seems to be that when it is working it works well but one tiny issue and the whole thing is a headache. I'll be keeping it because at worst it gets a ton of paint on the fence for me to brush in and that 75% of the work done.

You can use it indoors, but you need to be very careful with the ‘overspray’, that means paint particles that either spray outside your intended wall or bounce off what you are spraying and land on other surfaces. It is quite a powerful motor so make sure for indoors it is on its lowest setting and everything you are not spraying is well covered. Outside this isn’t a issue so is perfect for outdoor spraying 👍

      I’ve never had it overheat Philip and used it on some large projects. I think what you need to remember though is, even if you buy the larger container, say you are spraying fence panels you go through the contents pretty quickly so it has to stop. I’ve even had someone filling up an extra container I bought whilst I was using the other one. Quick change over and it was still fine 👍👍

    Hi, great review! I just got one and would like to take from your experience, 1) do you use the dial on max generally 2) how far from the workpiece do you normally have the gun 3) do you tend to go slow and complete a line, or go faster and go over the line again, thanks

      Neil Starkowitz Hello Neil, cheers for the message. Difficult questions to answer as I suppose each case is individual. Most of the spraying I do is outdoors so I know this is going to sound daft but you do have to factor in things like wind conditions when thinking about how far away the nozzle is from the ‘target’.
      If you watch the video back as a general rule if you’re wanting to spray fence panels etc have a look when I’m spraying the shed and that is about right on a high setting with a steady motion.
      I’ve just finished spraying some very poor quality 3mm hardboard to clad the inside of a garage door. I sprayed the undercoat across the width going up about half the level of the spray pattern each time, then I switched to spray across the length to try and get a uniform coverage. I then done the same with the satinwood topcoat and I’m very pleased with the result.
      I know this sounds daft but I would genuinely recommend you have a few practice runs with it on some scrap materials and off cuts. I’m in no way any kind of expert Neil as I’m just a keen hobbyist but each time I use it I understand it better. As a general rule I’d say medium to higher setting with a slow to medium steady pace of movement around 15cm distance. Don’t stop at one particular spot (even if it needs more paint) as it’ll create and overspray and look awful. Build up layers and that will in my opinion create a nicer finish.
      Hope it goes well for you. Let me know how you get on. Best wishes, Leo 😀😀

    Hey 👋🏽,
    Just come across your video whilst looking for reviews on sprayers. Great vid with lots of info.
    Quick ? I have never used a sprayer but have a huge amount of furniture to upcycle (bedroom sets, tables etc etc) plus want to spray my kitchen cabinet doors. Will the Wagner W100 be sturdy enough and will it give a fine smooth finish or would I be better to look at the flexio 590 or 690 🤔? Don't want to spend more if this will do the job 😉👍🏽.
    Thanks 🙂

      Hello Sandra and thanks for your very kind message. It is a great question and budget will dictate your answer. In my honest opinion the W100 is designed for the likes of spraying fence panels and it does it very well. The fact it can also spray a variety of other products is a bonus. I have sprayed satinwood onto hardboard for a garage door conversion inside and got great results, but if you are after upcycling furniture etc and you can afford the extra outlay, I’d probably go for the more expensive model. I’ve never used them, but imagine you would get a finer finish than the W100, even though it is a great entry level machine. Hope this helps, best wishes, Leo 😀👍
