For those of you saying that Dio doesn´t have the range Plant had: even in his prime, Plant couldn´t sing the high notes in this song live. The studio version is impressive, but still, it´s a studio version...
Disagree, i used to think the same thing until i heard the how the west was won cd. Plant nails it, in some ways, better than the studio. The tech did not exist to increase range in the 70s, Zeps records were not only primitive recording wise compared to todays record but compared to the other bands of the day, their process was some what bare bones, using space, natural guitar sounds, mike distance etc...Both Plant and DIO did more in 1 second than most rock singers will ever do. How the West Has Won is awesome, but Pant couldn´t keep with that consistency. I think he was a truly resourceful singer, but he shouldn´t have sang so high in so many songs- it took its toll on his voice. Although Dio´s voice also faced some age-related problems (just check the Holy Diver live cd), his voice remained young well into his 50s. :)

I had no idea that Dio did this Led Zeppelin song back in his Elf days until I saw an interview with him somewhere on here discussing his time with Elf and how much he liked the people in the band since they were all people he grew up with. This song sounds fantastic with Dio on vocals. Lot more powerful voice than Robert Plant.

@@calebking4638 oh, don't worry, salty boy, I will sail it to you. Robert Plant lost his range after he got sick and doctor restricted him from singing.
