I was there in 83 man what a gig hadn’t yet turned 23 , eight of us went down in the back of a red ford transit van, still gives me goosebumps Coverdale always delivered and left you wanting more, what a time to be alive my generation has got to be the luckiest to live through this era rock music .
You're so right. Brilliant music from truly talented musicians. Sorely missed in this age. I was there too, three years after Bernie Marsden and MIcky Moody blew the stage off!
Ohhh, Cozy ! Jon Lord ! MIcky Moody !! and David (with good voice and dark hair)of course . Not the original line up but still great . One of the best moment of Whitesnake :)
My brother and I were there….it was our first concert 17 & 18 year olds and we loved every second of it…Dio, Twisted Sister, Meatloaf, ZZ Top, Y&T…magic memories
The promoters probably told DIO not to sing “Mistreated” in fear of the other singers not wanting to perform after hearing him sing that. Even tho it was Coverdale’s song, DIO absolutely slays it!
I was at this concert. I remember Cozy Powell's drum solo. We got up at the crack of dawn to get a train up to London and then a coach to the festival from Victoria.
probably the best line up icons of the business coverdale , the late great Jon lord master of the hamond, Cozy powell the one & only never to be repeated RIP the monsters of rock
Was at this gig. Had just got my A level results and four of us travelled up in my girlfriend's mini. We are still all together and every year my mates misses wears the tour T-shirt on the anniversary of the concert. Where did the time go LOL !! Great days though 😀
Marsden, Murray, and Paice were in the lineup in 81, this lineup has Galley, Hodgkinson, and Powell respectively. I saw them in 81 too. Fantastic. People forget just how good Coverdale is as a soul/blues singer. When he went hair metal for the US market he lost that and never really got it back.
@@michaelcottle6270 Ah, now the line up that I saw definitely had Cozy Powell, Bomber Hodgekinson and Mel Galley. My first proper gig after the Buzzocks in 1978, LOLZ. And yeah, I much prefer the heavy rhythm & blues to the 80s hair metal. This was the music I grew up with and loved a lot. And stil do.
I was there that day,I won two tickets in local paper, my mate and I were unemployed at the time and skint. We got the bus from Darlington to Nottingham, then a local bus to Donnington. We bought flagons of cider in the village and walked to Donnington Park. We had a great time and got very pissed. We had to hitch a lift back to Darlington as we were skint.
this band along with Thin Lizzy rehearsed in the early 80s at a studio in Blackpool called Berlin Studios cozy Powell had 2 silverYAMAHA twin bass kits one of those kits is in the loft of said named studio to this very day, and the owner and I are planning to bring it down one summer and showcase it, I believe the second kit is privately owned, a video of that kit has been on youtube called "cozy powells slide it in tour kit"
I was there, but I don’t remember Ian Paice not being there. Last time I thought I’d seen Cozy Powell was when he was playing with the Michael Schenker Group. I also remember going to Bradford St George’s Hall to see that, and the first concert was cancelled, as he’d punched Schenker backstage, so he buggered off! (Proper version of ‘Here I go again’; sadly not the one you ever hear being played!)

I was there as a spotty faced 17 year old in my denim and leather with about 6 mates! Fooking brilliant line up and all round day out! Came down from Manchester all stuffed into a mates Blue Morris Marina, which looked like it was doing a wheelie all the way down the M6! I recall a massive plastic bottle throwing storm at some point, the contents of some of said bottles clearly didn't come from any refreshments stall at the event!! Brilliant! RIP Jon Lord & RIP Cozy Powell ❤❤🙏🤘🤘
One of the best lineups ever as Whitesnake. David, Cozy, John, Mickey, Bernie and Mr Murray on bass. Excellent concert and I was there the year before when Rainbow were headlining.
Not at all, the best line up by far was David Coverdale, Bernie Marsden, Micky Moody, Jon Lord, Neil Murray and Ian Paice. This here line up was good but not as good.

I remember this line up in 83 brum odeon what a voice, next time 2003 nec with new line up along side Gary Moore , the again at the nec in 2015 the purple tour
and he was the absolute dogs bollocks in Rainbow as well. The best drummer Blackmore ever hired, no question whatsoever. Rising is an absolute masterpiece that still stands up today, fifty years later.

Great performance. Jon Lord. Cozy Powell. David Coverdale. All giants. One of the greatest hard rock concerts I have ever seen on You Tube.
Shame Bernie Marsden was out the band by then. But Mel Galley was a worthy replacement.
Bueno en 1990,con Steve Vai no sonaban mal.🤘😎🤘

I saw this line up at Birmingham Odeon in 81. My first big gig as a 16 year old. Bloody marvellous.
Cozy was part of MSG in '81

@@michaelcottle6270 Totally agree, he did a lot more screaming too which ruined his voice in the end.
The way they first played/sang it with Hobo instead of Drifter
RIP Cozy, you made every band better
This line up is a dreamteam. And makes me remember David had a truly fantastic voice.
The dream team was Coverdale/Lord/Marsden/Moody/Paice.👌
What a voice. What a band. Great performance.
This is what you call TRUE PROFESSIONALS 😁👍🏻
Extra ordinary lineup and superior voice of David! 😊
They were inspired here!
No, it was not. Ian Paice and Bernie Marsden better fit for the band, than Powell and Mell Galley
Absolutely!!@@dsecch
Close to the best...only the marvelous Bernie Marsden is missing...the heart and soul of the Snake!
The only reason I am watching this is because of my admiration of Jon Lord, rest in peace ❤❤❤❤❤
Same but also for Cozy Powell. What a phenomenal hitman!
❤❤❤
and Cozy
?
I was there. Loved Cozy's drum solo with the helicopters
what a fucking day will never forget this rest in peace Cozy❤
He lost his Redcar accent by then and now he’s got his James Bond accent. Back in the day when Whitesnake was good. Thanks for posting this.

What a voice!!
Mr. Colin "Cozy Powell" Trevor Flooks 😢
Mr. Jonathan Douglas Lord 😢
Mr. Melvin Galley 😢
Interesting fact: Jon's name was actually spelled as 'John.'
@@grobbler1 Correct, John not Jonathan. But he always spelt it as Jon, just like Ritchie Blackmore is really Richard.
I was there, just £10 for the day if my memory serves me. Great memories and a fantastic bill with ZZ Top, Twisted Sister, Meatloaf and Diamond Head.
10 50 in advance plus booking fee 12 quid in the day
Кто бы что ни говорил~ мне эти парни нравятся! Очень!
