I respect the "Let me figure things out" but vampirism is the one thing I'd agree with on warning about in the moment. It's not a rock you're holding, that's a grenade with no pin.
I wonder sometimes if that is part of reason the werewolf’s slash other were creatures were not in oblivion Obviously there are none but with how insane both are
Never has a game had such a hold over me. Circa 2008, I used to feel a little (a little) guilty for mostly only going over to my best friend's house to play Oblivion. Being not raised to be rude, I couldn't just demand it. I had to just wait and hope. Sleepovers were 👌. They would be asleep, I'd be affixed to the TV all night. I even made myself get good grades so my parents would allow me to buy an Xbox 360 to get the game. Never has a game had such a hold over me. In Oblivion, it was the first time I got to actually travel to those distant mountains that are usually just painted as background to a game. It's such a uniquely wonderful thing, walking out of that Sewer and just heading towards the highest peak I could find.
It's always fun to see new comers to Oblivion. I don't remember visiting that first cave at all. (Sideways Cave) It is a lot less monotonous than most caves. I'm not sure how much help you don't want, but if you turned your cursor back on, you can see if an object is going to be stolen if the cursor is red. From what I remember, vampirism is a big pain to cure after it progresses. It's okay not to do the main quest at first, but it has a strong story and offers different experiences.
Really great to see someone new coming to Oblivion for the first time. I don't thik I would have the patience to get it setup in a way that I would enjoy playing it in 2024 (modding it is a *nightmare* compared to Skyrim), but I sank at least 200 hours per playthrough (can't remember if it was 2 or 3 playthroughs). Such good memories and good feelings, even from the soundtrack. Also, despite the 'oh no, it's the end of the world because the emperor is dead!' setting, it feels so much more of an optimistic, bright and hopeful setting compared to Skyrim (still absolutely love Skyrim and its more bleak atmosphere, of course!). So many of the gameplay mechanics of Oblivion frustrated me to no end and I'm glad Skyrim got rid of (having your strength attribute drained by a spell, curse or sickness is *just the worst* ), but Oblivion has just such a charm to it. Excited to see you make your way through the game. Also interested to see how you go with Morrowind. That will be a *much less acccessible* game to get into, but given how you've worked your way around the first 6 hours of Oblivion, I think you're going to be impressed with the depth of the story (but also, SO SO SO much more reading since dialogue is not fully voiced). Morrowind does not hold your hand at all (and I had to give up and google solutions --- back in 2002 Google, mind! --- because I didn't know what a "cairn" was, and knowing that was absolutely crucial to understanding a direction I'd been given) which I think you're going to appreciate. Also, if memory serves, the journal is arse and doesn't sort by quest (unless there was a later patch that I've forgotten about that does it). It trades in the cinematic, polished and streamlined approaches of the later games but is extremely deep, and I think you're going to love it. Still and all, I'm going to enjoy following along this playthrough, and I might even go back and check out your Skyrim playthrough, too. The games don't really have a coherent storyline between games (I mean, the history absolutely progresses from each, but from a narrative perspective it's not necessary), and I'm interested to see how you experience/understand the lore of each game progressing backwards. Should be fun! Thank you.
There are many things that bring me nostalgia, but only 2 things make me legitimately feel like a kid again. Californication by RHCP (the whole album), and this game.

@@remrem-gx3ml Obvlivion and Skyrim are so, so different. I like that you chose the game's strongest race (Breton) BY FAR, then proceeded to pick an utterly useless Birthsign because you completely misunderstood what it did... 🤣
I’m glad you’re giving Oblivion a go. It’s a delightfully janky game! A true classic. Be sure to keep track of your gear. You need to repair your weapons and armor. I understand water levels maybe a bit of a hassle for extremely new players, not many people havent played oblivion but those that do almost always have trouble with water levels.
