    Ninas voice is even more amazing. You heard about the half of her range. If you are not afraid of weirdness, try the life versions of Naturträne or New York, New York. Prepare yourself. 😅

      Yeah. Anyone who sees this video should come away from it thinking “I need to hear more Nina Hagen”

  • @justston188
    @justston188 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The crazy thing is that the Rammstein singer who is known for his deep voice sings this song quite high while Nina is actually known for a very high voice.

    • @UranusHz420
      @UranusHz420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She’s known for having a six octave range. Which is just unheard of.

    My own thought on what Nina represents in the video is that she's a Siren. They lured sailors into the rocks by singing to them. The skull dress, the extinguishing of the lamp at the lighthouse all suggest certain death for the sailor rowing his boat to what he thought was safety. Nina's range is vast, what we hear in this performance is just a small amount of her vocal range. Her work here with Apocalyptica is exceptional, love it.

    Nina's talent is extraordinary. I've seen her twice. The undisputable Mother of Punk can do Christmas songs, (Silent Night, Ave Maria), Big Band Standards (2 albums worth, check out the live version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow), David Bowie inspired Glitter rock (New York, New York) to Janis Joplin's (Move Over) to Hendrix-inspired (Live on Mars)... Universal Radio, (the remixes), So Bad, Tiere, Love Heart Attack and so many more. One of One, she is.

    Thank you for this nice video. The song is basically about loneliness. Someone is begging another person to become a part of his/her life ("Komm in mein Boot" - this is sung in German, but sounds the same as English). But he admits that he will be the "Helmsman" ("Steuermann" in German). Its teasing and commanding at the same time - after all its Rammstein. Nina is known as a little lunatic in Germany, but her voice is phenomenal. Her best performance ever is "Natur-Träne", where she's mocking an opera singer. More fun is "TV-Glotzer": Binge watching TV.

    now this brings me back to my youth, snogged some random bird round the back of a pub where some band was playing at, few years later i see the same chick on stage at another venue, turned out id had nina hagens tongue in my throat, bloody brilliant

  • @lukaluka1214
    @lukaluka1214 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I truly enjoyed your reaction. Just one little thing: The line "komm in mein Boot" just happens to sound like "come in my boat" .... thanks to the influence of the Angles and Saxons, both germanic tribes, to the English language .... if you listen closley you will hear the "n" at the end of "mein" - so she did not sing it in English, as you suppose, to make the message more comprehensible to non german speakers - it´s a pure coincidence

    Nina can sing opera but in bass :D She is one of our old school punk chicas from back in the day. I know you lsitened to Tote hosen and so on. She is like 70/80s Punk. Also performed with the british punk scene back then. Her daughter Cosma Shiva Hagen was born in Los Angeles. She is an actress, but I think she only did german movies.

    Glad you liked it! It's just an amazing combination of a great original song, a great band, and a great singer! It was kind of a safe choice introducing you to Nina with this song, her own songs, and other covers are definitely more her, meaning a bit crazier, more playing with her voice (she can hit those high notes). Definitely got more from her on my list for you :)
    Oh and yeah as the others were saying there's no English in this song, it just sounds very similar

    Nina is a legend here in Germany. You were not wrong guessing she sings opera, because that's what she's able to, too 😉 If you like weird you should check out her performance of "Naturträne" live. She kind of invented opera with Rock music 😀

    Nina Hagen was always more punk rock in operatic style. When I requested Naturträne a long time ago, I thought you would like her operatic style of singing and her crazy show. The highest tone in this clip is not as high as her lowest tone in Naturträne. I'm shocked how much her voice has degraded over time. When she was younger she sang over 4 octaves. You really should do Naturträne at rockpalast to compare now ;). What Alanna said is true. We tend to color black and white in our minds. I remember being convinced that a childrens tv show in The Netherlands about a clown in my youth was in color, but as it turns out, we didn't even had color tv until years after the show had stopped. :D
