Step aside, Nina Hagen is one of the top female metal/rock/punk vocalist and one of the top top vocalist of the XX century (as long with Diamanda Galas), saddly not so recognized as she deserve, she was one of the figures wich make the first move on the german music scene in a very hard time of their history. I'm not fond with her style either but her whole carreer is something wich really needs the recognition that she deserves. She born in East Germany and start to sing when she was a child, described as a prodigy by 9 years old, formally debuted in the rock scene in 1974 wich make her one of the first women in a musical industry wich was meant to be for men back then, she put the first steps wich a lot of singers (Tarja, Doro, Sharon, Simone, Floor and many others) will follow decades later. The deep sound of her voice is just the top of the iceberg of her range (I recommend her version of the aria Carmen from World Now, 1985, just as a curiosity to all who want to hear), she has such eccentric and truly haunting voice with a mesmerizing duality from the most deep and dark sound to one the most light and bright operatic sound. Her vocal range is so freaking huge: D2 - B7 (some say C7 as her top range and G1 as the lowest), the only other metal singer I knew with a huge range is Snowy Shaw (one of the many former Therion singers).
So pleased to see you react to Apocalyptica, especially with the Nina Hagen colaboration on the Rammstein song. In my humble opinion I find that the combination of the tallents of all concerned delivers us something very special and utterly gorgeous.I have lost count of how many times I have watched it...

I saw a thread online where someone asked who would be the best vocalist to cover 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson and Nina Hagen would be the perfect choice, IMO.

👍Good Job. One of Nina Hagens best performances I know of is a live version of her cover version of 1940s Zarah Leanders 'Ich weiss, es wird einmal ein Wunder geschehn'. It even contains an english verse. Go search for "Nina Hagen - Zarah (Rockpalast 1999)", it really starts at 1:45. I highly recommend.
If you compare Nina's singing in the song "Seemann" with "Naturträne" (Rockpalast, that's really live! The recording of Top of the Pops is only playback), then you realize what a vocal range she has. "Oh my god, Mariah Carey's vocal range is 4 octaves!" Nina: "Hold my beer..."
Apocalyptica's amplified, distorted, heavy CELLOS are tremendous....they have played in studio and on stage with Till Lindemann and Rammstein many times........"Seemann" = sailor in German.......Nina Hagen ( Haaahgen ) is a punk rock legend....... Nina's last line is...."Time stands still and I am cold !" ......
These Finnish guys don't use guitars and keyboard - just distored cellos and drums!💪 And I think Tim Burton would be a fan of frau Hagen😀 (BTW, Helena Bonham Carter looks like Nina.😏) *She is great,* she's a trained opera singer, she's the German Punk Queen (and she's 67 years old)! ⚡
Even though I like Nina Hagen, but she only has a 1-year education as a pop singer. I know it's always written, but it's not true. So she is self-taught.
