- Back to a viewer suggestion. A cover of a Rammstein song we have previously reacted to as well. Apocalyptica and Nina Hagen do a version of Seemann. I loved the track the first time so does this cover hit as well. Does our resident Rammstein fan Lacey love this? Tune in to find out.

Her own stuff was and maybe still is mind blowing. She is definitely one of a kind.

I thought it was so funny when you said, “I wonder what her normal stuff sounds like”. As far as I can remember I think she has never done anything “normal.” It was always a class of her own.

@@PopCultureProductions As a very big Nina Hagen Fan I would recommend all of the stuff she did in the 70s with her old band, very interesting stuff, kind of progressive punk if there's anything like that.
There is a whole concert from the Nina Hagen Band on TH-cam from Rockpalast in 1978... Anything from that would be a recommendation.
Especially Naturträne, Aufm Bahnhof Zoo, TV Glotzer, Spinner and Unbeschreiblich Weiblich, but yeah literally anything from that concert...

She was originally trained as an opera singer in the GDR.
Wonderful. Can't tell you how many times I've watched it.
My love of string instruments really helped for me as well. The last 5 years I have become more and more drawn to violins, cellos etc.

To use the word "normal" in regards to anything Nina Hagen related is quite funny to me.
By the way, she played the evil stepmom in two "7 Dwarfs" slapstick comedy movies in which her daughter played Snow White.
Apocalyptica had worked with Till Lindemann too.

Her biggest hit was „Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" (translation: You Forgot The Colour Film) is a pop single written by Michael Heubach (music) and Kurt Demmler (lyrics). It was first performed by East German (GDR) punk artist and trained opera singer Nina Hagen and her band Automobil (of which Heubach was the keyboardist), released in 1974 prior to Hagen's punk career. The song depicts a young girl scolding her boyfriend for forgetting to bring the colour film for their camera while on vacation.
The song reached the top places of the East German music charts in 1974, and 40th place in the 1975 full-year charts. Though not censored by the state, the song was widely interpreted at the time as criticism of the drab and grey life prevalent in East Germany and the rest of the Eastern Bloc; this double meaning seen in the comical words of the song was apparently well-understood by both the general population and the Politbüro elites.
Two years later, she left the GDR with her mother, Eva-Maria Hagen, after Eva-Maria's former partner, Wolf Biermann (a East German satiric political singer and songwriter), had been stripped of his GDR citizenship while on tour in West Germany. Eva-Maria joined the protest against this decision, and was also deprived of her citizenship.
In 2003, it was reported that around 40 percent of East Germans could sing the song's lyrics.
That is some amazing history for her and the song. I love the idea that a song captures that much of a public consciousness.

Nice reaction by the way. Till's and Nina's voices match the vibe of the song so good. In that case the vibe of the song has a lot to do with the german language and poetry of Till...

I'm pretty sure we will be back for more Apocolyptica in the future as they did a great job with a song I already love. The best bit was hearing the original for the first time doing this.
