Thank you so much, I love it! In two weeks, I have to give a presentation in my Game Design studies about the TWD Telltale art style. It's really hard to find the right information on this topic. This video was a great starting point! Thanks
Hi Midaaas, I'm stoked you got something out of the video. I'm working on another short bit that will go into Clementine's evolution. Hopefully will have that out in a couple of weeks.
@SMooresCharacters Oh cool, I'm looking forward to that. Thanks again! This is all really helpful for my presentation. I think I'll focus a lot on Lee's design. Do you happen to know anything about references for Kenny? For Lee, you mentioned a few actors and that he’s supposed to radiate warmth and strength. I’d like to highlight Kenny as a contrast to Lee in my presentation. Oh, and what exactly is the situation with cell shading in the game? I think you said there wasn’t any. Did that change in the later games since the general art style changed? I hope the questions weren’t too confusing or too much 🫠. I just find all of this really interesting 🙃.
@@Midaaas Regarding Kenny, the initial model was outsourced and I did some polish work on him: painting over his textures, particularly the beard. I'm sorry I don't remember what the possible influences for him were.
@@Midaaas PS: regaring the cell shading, we did make a conscious effort to upgrade the visuals on Season 3 and 4. We went for a more realistic sculpting style, developed some special tech for the ink lines,( actually borrowed from the Fables project, I believe) which enabled us to get much better resolution for the lines and I think we also included outlines on the Characters in Season 4 and possibly season 3.
Hey JJones, thank you so much for your comment's and support. I had to delete the latest video that you hand commented on, but I wanted to let you know I saw your comment about playing the Telltale's the Walking Dead every year and I really appreciated it. I hope you have a fantastic New Year!
Hi Azizibrahem, yes it is intended to be a video on the Season 1 and 2 art style. Admittedly I did use a season 3 asset for the sculpt but the focus was texturing. I hope that's OK.
@@SMooresCharacters Thanks for the effort man , I'm actually in Love with this art style, i made some models using a similar method, using watercolor, black lines, and such , you know , for some fanarts n fan made animations
@@SMooresCharacters i wanna ask ya something, will this apply for humans and props? I know it's the same method, but i reckon if that doesn't bother you , you could do some textures with props n s1+2+ michonne human , I really appreciate your effort and love your work
@@azizibrahem27 Actually no, props fell under environments, and the Environment team took a different approach because they have more assets to create so they tend to keep things simple. For Walking Dead season 1 and 2 I don't think they used normal maps, instead they hand painted diffuse maps and used a library of alpha brushes to help create the sketchy line art.
Oh this is AMAZING! I'm obsessed with art and game behind the scenes looks, and TWDG series has been part of my life for so long! Awesome work
Hey, that is so cool to hear, Me too: I love to see how old school movie models are made, and I watch a lot of model painting demos too.
