Amazing vid man! Love clem <3
Cheers Martin ! Glad you liked it 😃
Hi!! I just wanted to thank you for putting this together and all the work in general to make Clementine such a beloved character. She has always been one of my favorite characters due to the way we watch her grow and these designs really encapsulate that. Also I’m so glad the mystery of her red jacket has been solved ^^ 💞
Hi Annabel, and thank you! I had a great time putting this bit together and it was a trip down memory lane. Glad you enjoyed it.😃
OKA4live So sorry I deleted your comment by accident and can’t recover it , but thank you very much ♥️
Omgg heyoo
I just wanna thank you for all the hours you have put into making clementine she’s my favorite character ever knowing how much effort and care was put into making her is so evident, thank you so much for making such a memorable wonderful character from start to finish ♥️ Hope you’re doing great and found better opportunities and doing what you love huge respect for you!
Thank you Sully! I really appreciate your comment and yes I am still making characters and enjoying life. I hope you are doing what you love think and loving life too. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. ♥️🌞
out of curiosity i just checked and seems that Telltale is dead again. for some reason they've bet their last years brief resurrection entirely on a little known IP from TV series that was canceled shortly after. nobody bought it, nobody cared. I've watched all seasons of Expanse and i still don't care about this game. Why not "The Wolf Among Us 2" or new "Walking Dead" ? who knows, i guess some license thing. Their website is dead and abandoned, only spambots and a handful of weirdos still post on the forum from time to time.
Ae man, thats disappointing , I think they spread themselves too thin before, too many expensive IPs, might have been better to do less, but better?
PS: a Fables sequel would be cool and they have all those assets they could repurpose , ( I assume.)
This video is dedicated to JJones and everybody else who has subscribed and supported me and this humble channel. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment's and support. I hope you all have a wonderful and Happy New Year!
Happy new year SMoore's Characters! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, they're really appreciated 😊
You're welcome Emily, and thank you for watching, Happy New Year!
Thank you so much, I love it! In two weeks, I have to give a presentation in my Game Design studies about the TWD Telltale art style. It's really hard to find the right information on this topic. This video was a great starting point! Thanks
Hi Midaaas, I'm stoked you got something out of the video. I'm working on another short bit that will go into Clementine's evolution. Hopefully will have that out in a couple of weeks.
@SMooresCharacters Oh cool, I'm looking forward to that. Thanks again! This is all really helpful for my presentation. I think I'll focus a lot on Lee's design. Do you happen to know anything about references for Kenny? For Lee, you mentioned a few actors and that he’s supposed to radiate warmth and strength. I’d like to highlight Kenny as a contrast to Lee in my presentation. Oh, and what exactly is the situation with cell shading in the game? I think you said there wasn’t any. Did that change in the later games since the general art style changed? I hope the questions weren’t too confusing or too much 🫠. I just find all of this really interesting 🙃.
@@Midaaas Regarding Kenny, the initial model was outsourced and I did some polish work on him: painting over his textures, particularly the beard. I'm sorry I don't remember what the possible influences for him were.
@@SMooresCharacters Alright. Thank you for the answer tho :)
@@Midaaas PS: regaring the cell shading, we did make a conscious effort to upgrade the visuals on Season 3 and 4. We went for a more realistic sculpting style, developed some special tech for the ink lines,( actually borrowed from the Fables project, I believe) which enabled us to get much better resolution for the lines and I think we also included outlines on the Characters in Season 4 and possibly season 3.
How can i do this on blender? No matter what i try it doesn't work
I'll do some research this week and see if I can figure it out.
Have you ever thought about making a version of Rick or someone else from the Comics in the Telltale style since you made the original models for Lee and Clem? It would be sick!
Thanks that's a cool suggestion. I did make Michonne back in the day, but I don't think i have a record of her. I have been mulling over doing a tribute to Clementine, maybe her battling a Zombie :D
@ thanks for replying bro. You seriously don’t know how much of a legend you are for your work on TWD. Seriously iconic 🤝
omg the music is very distracting ...
Yea, you're right, I have toned it down in recent videos.
Looks amazing! I'm curious about the 'morph target' in Marvelous. I always used an animation and it's a huge pain in the butt. I'll definitely be looking into this.
Yea, I had trouble getting animations to work in Marvelous Designer and still need to figure that out! The Morph Target is useful for getting Characters into a pose, but if it's an extreme pose you sometimes need an in between pose. It worked well for puffing up the chest though.
Thank you man, this was incredibly helpful. You the best
Cheers ! that means a lot to me 😀
duuuude you answered my concern <3 love you
Thank you so much, I hope it helped.
Well done! I was about to jump into MD in a couple of days. This is gonna help for sure.
Yea! Ya know in game cloth simulation is a thing now, so MD skills will help for sure.
Good tip! Side note: It's cool to see that you use the hotbox in Maya as much as I do! There are so many different programs that I've become very selective about what I decide to use custom hotkeys for. Too many programs! 😁
Oh yea, regarding hotkeys: it get's super confusing sometimes, switching from program to program. :D
what about uv and top stiching you brought from md
Sorry, it's been a while since I made this video so I'll have to go back and refresh my memory.
@@SMooresCharacters when i use zremesh i loose my uv that i made in marvelius software, like puckerings and stiches.
@@elyootafaridzadeh1164 Yes, sorry but that is unavoidable, however, I did a test and you could copy the uvs from your original mesh that you exported from Marvelous Designer to the new ZRemesh version using a tool like "Transfer Attributes" in Maya and copy the UVs based on World Space. I try to make a short video demo in the near future.
@@SMooresCharacters lovely, thou i use blender, i found my way somewhat different, mine is export from marvelous in flat version aswell and then retopo flat version and get a projection Uv from it and then use mesh deform to form it around my first obj... for any one who wants :)
@@elyootafaridzadeh1164 Glad to hear you found a solution!
If you don't mind me asking, what are your thoughts on Generative AI and Ai "art"?
I think that love it or hate it, it is here to stay and we will have to adapt to new ways of doing things. I understand the frustration of people who have had their work stolen without being compensated. In the near term I am trying to learn more about it so I can be better prepared for the future. I have learnt that it is very hard to predict the future so I remain optimistic.
PS: It's a big subject and so that's my attempt at an abbreviated answer. I hope that's cool ?
That's so cool!!! Thank you for uploading, love seeing behind the scenes stuff.
Cheers and e3xtra good Mojo for you! :D
Sweet hand sculpted wrinkles my dude!
Aww!🤟
SMoore's Characters, This is great! I liked it and subscribed!
Awesome!
Love these videos about your Telltale days! Thanks so much for uploading them!! One of my dreams was to work at Telltale, but I never got the chance.
Hey Cheers JJones! maybe Telltale Games is no more BUT Skybound is making games now :D
Just wondering what people think of the original Season 1 style, versus the Season 4 Flashback versions of Lee and Clementine?
Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I have a soft spot for the season 1 style. They just had more character somehow. I notice that the eyes are bigger in the game version. How did that come about? Was that modeled in later, or added by blendshapes (or something) after the fact?
@@jjones1032 Cheers! Yea, something I didn't mention in the video: I made adjustments to the meshes in the final. Lee's jaw got more squared off, Lee pointy and unregards to the eyes I think the textures help to enhance them.
Have you tried fibershop, how does this tool compare to it?
Yes, I have tried fiber mesh. Hair Designer is faster and easier. I don't claim to be an expert with Fiber mesh but I find it labor intensive.
PS: I think, if I was do photorealistic pre rendered stuff I might use Fiber mesh for the foreground hair and cards for the stuff that is in the background. My Friend Andrew Chen does some nice photo real stuff and that is his approach.
@@SMooresCharacters I meant the software called fibershop
Oh sorry no, I shall have it check it out. Thanks for the tip.
Awesome tool at an awesome price, cheers for looping us in!
Thanks HelloCorgi, you're awesome!
So amazing dude. Also I bet it's pretty surreal seeing models YOU'VE made yourself showing up on people's profile pictures (including mine)
Cheers and I love your profile pic! 😄 and yes, one of the best rewards is seeing fan art or cos play of characters you've worked on.
Great Marvelous D content! 🔥🔥
Cheers! Hellocorgi !
I love your Marvelous work! But be honest, when you started your 3D modeling career, did you ever think you'd also be learning the craft of tailoring? 😁
I can honestly say no, I never thought I'd be creating costumes like a tailor. The world of computer graphics is full of surprises. 😁
I thought you were making something with season 1-2 art style
Hi Azizibrahem, yes it is intended to be a video on the Season 1 and 2 art style. Admittedly I did use a season 3 asset for the sculpt but the focus was texturing. I hope that's OK.
@@SMooresCharacters Thanks for the effort man , I'm actually in Love with this art style, i made some models using a similar method, using watercolor, black lines, and such , you know , for some fanarts n fan made animations
@@SMooresCharacters i wanna ask ya something, will this apply for humans and props? I know it's the same method, but i reckon if that doesn't bother you , you could do some textures with props n s1+2+ michonne human , I really appreciate your effort and love your work
Oh Sweet! I'd love to see.
@@azizibrahem27 Actually no, props fell under environments, and the Environment team took a different approach because they have more assets to create so they tend to keep things simple. For Walking Dead season 1 and 2 I don't think they used normal maps, instead they hand painted diffuse maps and used a library of alpha brushes to help create the sketchy line art.
Thanks for spending your time to share this with us, great watch! Very interesting
Thanks Feintxdd, your comment means a lot . Cheers!
Thank you for sharing your stories and process in developing the look for telltale’s walking dead! Never knew that you were instrumental in the development of the style. Really cool to know how it came together. Cheers!👏
Cheers Shadowscheme!
This is amazing!! Thank you for sharing this!
Awsome! Cheers Ghostrecon,
Nice Cross-Hatch, I think it really ties the texture together. Awesome work as usual thanks for the insight.

Cheers JJones, I always appreciate your encouragement. Thanks !
Oh this is AMAZING! I'm obsessed with art and game behind the scenes looks, and TWDG series has been part of my life for so long! Awesome work

Hey JJones, thank you so much for your comment's and support. I had to delete the latest video that you hand commented on, but I wanted to let you know I saw your comment about playing the Telltale's the Walking Dead every year and I really appreciated it. I hope you have a fantastic New Year!
@@SMooresCharacters You too! Happy holidays to you and yours!
Hi Mr. Moore. I'm really grateful for the information and experience you share on this platform. Thank you so much! I noticed you were grooming thei hair on the character already posed. Did you actually suggest to do that when it comes to make a character in a pose?
Hi Vincenzo, it is true I was grooming the hair on a posed model. The catch is, I kept the head straight and actually twisted the torso instead, so it was easier to work on the face.
Great Tutorial! Thanks a lot for sharing this!
Thanks for watching! 😁
Great video! Hair has always one of the things I've always had the most trouble with. Would love to see some behind the scenes of Telltale stuff!!!
Right On!
Can you please do a tutorial on how to make models in the twdg style
Yes, thanks, that's a cool idea. 😄
OK, I just posted that tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/jrxb5FixVT0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Eie8i3JpdNSbf-k7
Awesome job! Thanks for sharing!
Cheers! and thanks for the encouragement!
I have high hopes for genAI in the future, but right now it's an exploitative nightmare. I feel like most current models are stealing the creative labor from certain people, and selling to others - all without consent, credit, or compensation. Worse, it's being sold as a replace to those people it stole from. Until this gets fixed, I can't bring myself to want to use it.
Yes, I won't try to predict the future, however I do wonder if this is the beginning of the end for capitalism? I imagine some people will make a lot of money in the short term, but ultimately AI might displace the need for human labor: intellectual and physical, and so there will be no market for goods and services...I say this but every time I try to predict the future things happen that I could never have imagined.
amazing!
Cheers Omser! and thanks for the encouragement :D
My pleasure! Big fan of your work man! I really appreciate the insights you have given :]
