Great to see you continue to go outside of your comfort zone, I personally have been getting into single player FPS games starting with the OG Doom, I'm also going to play my first survival horror game being Resident Evil HD Remaster in October. It's amazing to see how many more games open up to you when you decide to dive into new genres!
Spiders has been making Western RPGs like budget Mass Effects for a very long time, this is actually the first time they've gone into the souls genre. Their previous Western RPGs are Mars Warlogs, bound by flames, technomancer, and GreedFall so If anyone is interested go check those out.
I actually wanted to review Greedfall shortly after it came out, but my production process was too slow. Since then, I’ve been working hard to improve on this to allow myself to review all sorts of games this whole time
Just wanted to say because of your review and the trial I just bought this game. Your channel has been really helpful and I like how you explain the game mechanics a bit too
This is interesting, because the design of this game really shows that the creatives behind it are game enthusiasts themselves, and I always appreciate when a game makes effort toward accessibility and approachability instead of just "game l like but ever more harder" I really appreciate the unique premise and setting, too. The team at Spider is one to keep an eye on for sure
This game so far has been pretty good with alot of elements I really like. I loved Thymesia despite it's shortcomings and this game came right after that title & its been really fun to play. Spiders Studio have done an admirable passionate job on this game and I have to commend them for it. 🔥
@@BacklogBattle Yeah but not as often as you do now. Lately (past few months or so) you've even reviewed a classic platformer like the PAC Man world remake.
I gotta say, definitive pick up for me. Though thanks to games like Lies of P, almost made me forget this game just due to how many I need to have free rent in my brain at all times. Thankful I have a PS5 to test if this game can perform as well as on your Omen *jealous grumbling in the background* 😜
I think the game looks amazing, but it also looks like there's some problems with making the animations feel fluid. Still, this looks solid enough to get me sold on the visuals, it's refreshing to see this steampunk get out there more in a vast ocean of realistic, cartoony, or medieval settings. One thing I like about this review? I overall appreciate that you said it anyway, that this kind of a game is more than just its difficulty. I seriously feel as though souls fans miss out the forest for the trees in that regard by being so laser focused on the challenges that they tend to overlook or forget all the artistic work going on into these games, some might think that's an exaggeration, because people do look into the artistic side of it and the story too, but aside from some YT content creators and people interacting with them and some discussions which tend to happen, I'm not saying that they Never happen, regardless of that though I do fully stand by what I said, I think that the fandom at large is far more preoccupied with the challenge in these games than the artistry going on in them and it's a damn shame whenever even FromSoftware's artists work gets overlooked or shoved to the side like that. To me these games are something that brought back a greater appreciation of art and artistic expression and games like these breathe more life into that, which is why it's also great to see that not all of them try to outdo FromSoftware and be like Lords of Fallen, or Surge, or what else have you, instead they try to get a bigger audience into this genre. It's not just healthy for the genre, it also benefits FromSoftware and it's also great to see more people get into these games and be able to appreciate the same things. :)
100% this. I do think that while it’s good that Souls games allow for a variety of challenging experiences, this buries a lot of the artistry and creative work put into the games.
@@BacklogBattle Not to mention, how much it flies in the face of that defense these fromsoft fans liked to throw out there a lot, about Respecting Artistic Integrity.. How is it respecting artistic integrity, to force every developer to drop all their own design ideas when it comes to how they would like their games to be experienced, so as to mindlessly follow Only fromsoftware's design ideas and how FromSoftware likes their games to be experienced? I have a great deal of respect and also love of FromSoftware games, but some of these fans are not even letting these other developers and their game breathe.. This is why I feel that this genre is in such a ditch right now, because of stuff like this one thing that's not happening is experimenting with this genre, which this ARPG / souls-like that FromSoftware popularized needs a lot of right now, especially after it's been over 10 years of it being on a fundamental level, still the same way, with only a game like Sekiro having actually experimented and diverted more from those roots and changing a lot of things. I think what we need are more games as different and wild as Sekiro, not just like it, but in the same spirit of experimenting with new things and new ideas.
I've been very curious about this game and I want to play it even more after seeing your review. Though I am considering getting a PS5 soon and I might wait until I have one so I can get a physical copy of the game instead of playing it digitally on PC.
Great review. What are the boss runs like? I got frustrated in demon souls with some of the runs back to face a boss. Elden ring much improved this with stakes of marika.
There’s no equivalent of stakes of Marika in this one, but the runs back to the Boss aren’t that bad in the beginning at least. I just usually ran past things much like in other Souls games

That’s awesome! I think as a whole trying new genres allows us to appreciate the wide spectrum of available experiences out there!

I can’t believe that I’m about to say this: I love Spiders
@@BacklogBattle I guess you could say they've caught you in their web xD
The design of the player character is very unique, I like the mechanical, mannequin type of look, very unique.

Spiders is a developer to watch for sure! I cannot wait for Greedfall 2!
My physical pre-order got hella delayed :( can't wait to play this!
I hope it arrives soon!
Wow I'm really surprised and glad at the fact that you're reviewing different kinds of games now.
A lot of people say I only review JRPGs, but if you look closely, I review all sorts of games

Perfect timing I just beat Sekiro
And I want to play more Souls like games
You’re probably going to destroy this one!

Just bought the game today. I’m going to record some gameplay for it. Is 40-50 minutes okay?

You should give Mortal Shell a chance
I know about Mortal Shell, but the art design doesn’t appeal to me
@@BacklogBattle I understand.
Gameplay is cool though.
