    I'm so grateful I ran across this video. I'm new to the trucking business and have been researching lots of different things. This is the most informative video I've watched. You get straight to the point and share FACTS! You covered so many things in this one video. I've learned more from you in 20 minutes than I've learned from others in weeks. Thanks so much!

    Mizer, I've learned more from you in 3 days, about the hotshot industry, than I have in 7 months on hotshot FB and forum groups.. lol Thank you for that. I've definitely hit that bell.
    I've been in I.T. industry for 25+ yrs, and I'm burnt out. Grew up on 6500ac farmland, love trucking (my dad did it for yrs) and I'm in the middle of getting my ducks in a row to join the ranks here. I appreciate your (and others here, like TP) informative insights into the field.

      Geriatric Ginger that’s awesome man, thank you!! The more you research this, the less it hurts once you’re in lol. There’s always a learning curve. Some days even my best advice won’t work for my own self 🤣. This industry is just as much knowing what to do as it is right place - right time/luck. When they all fall in place it’s fantastic. When they don’t you just adjust. It’s always evolving. 👍👍

    For any new truckers business owners out there or any body of thinking into starting a trucking business. The best company to start with is Progressive because they go by your credit and not your driving experience or years in business. Especially those that don't have that much experience driving. Progressive is King for new trucking business owners if you have a good credit. Also if you add your home insurance and your vehicle to Progressive. The cheaper your commercial insurance goes down. Just fyi.

      I live in Florida. I’m about to start my hotshot company. I spoke with progressive today and they gave me a quote on a policy. It was $24,400 for the year. I almost had a heart attack.I have seen places advertising on the Internet that you can be anywhere from $8000 to $14,000 a year but no where I seen it was over $24,000. I have one accident for an improper turn this year. She said that only affected the policy by $1000 a year. I have absolutely no clue why it would be this much. Everybody says progressive is a good way to go I just don’t know about that. Tomorrow I plan on calling the lady from this TH-cam video and some other insurance companies.

    Lots of good information! Couple of add ons that may help people: beware in the physical damage and find out the towing limits on your policy. We have seen people get stuck with HUGE towing bills because they didn't realize they bought a policy with a low towing limit. A few other items to consider are radius, classification (ie hotshot, gen freight, auto hauler), ELD discounts, and cameras are a MUST. Something to consider when growing is Workers Comp or Occupational Accident policies. In trucking insurance class we were taught that if you are running with high Uninsured Motorist and you have a claim, this could hurt you in the long run instead of having insurance elsewhere to cover this. How could it hurt you? Big claims on loss runs. That's where Occ Acc, work comp, OR even Uninsured Motorist on your personal policy could cover you instead. This is certainly something to discuss with your agent and not take TH-cam advice on though! Everyone's situation is a little different. Last TIP - did you know you can fight bad info on your MC number? Those DOT officers make mistakes all the time. A good trucking insurance agent should be able to help you with that. Stay safe out there, and thank you to everyone keeping our economy going through this pandemic. Y'all are heroes!

    That's good information. Been trucking for 20+ years and many people getting in don't understand how this business really works and why some companies can't hire them. Because the insurance company has always had the say on who gets hired.

    Great video, Mr LM. I gotta say.....I was on the phone for over 30 minutes last week with a rep for Progressive Insurance (that's who my CURRENT company works with in the secondary market....like boat and RV and commercial). I was SHOCKED by the prices quoted. Makes me wonder if during all the talking I didn't check off too many boxes or something. Anyway....told her I'd think about it, lol. Anyway, today I did one of the online quote things which SUPPOSEDLY is being sent to 3 companies for bids....and the initial 'estimated' quote was about 1/3 the price I'd heard from Progressive. Which makes me wonder if not enough boxes had been checked off. BUT. The online quote was way doable. Your video is helping me to ensure that I DO have all the coverage I'll need. I DO know that Limit of Liability, Uninsured/Underinsured, Medical Payments, Cargo, and Physical Damage were included in the online quote I saw. Seems like I'm missing a couple more, but I'll double-check. Hopefully I DO get a quote at least ballpark to the one I saw online. But. It's a website and company from a mailing I received.....so let the buyer beware! Fingers crossed! Need the insurance and the BOC-3 before I'm active. Jesus, you weren't joking when you said that once you apply for a USDOT/MC number that your freaking phone AND mailbox would be blowing up!

    As a trucking insurance agent I can most definitely agree with everything you said. It is true Progressive is so easy to work with if drivers and company owners have truck and trailer info, driver info, business information, and coverages then we can get you a quote in as little as 20 minutes, reason being is Progressive doesn't require for us to provide loss runs or MVR's and yes it's usually more expensive for new ventures depending on driving record, CDL experience, and credit but they're an A rated company and brokers love them and you're guaranteed a load.

      Hey Joel it’s Major with Major Transport Services. I just got my own Authority yesterday and waiting for the 21 day clearance to start operating. I also found a great insurance company to cover my commercial side of things but what I was wondering is this, when you put down what state you will be operating in, are those the only states you can actually be in period with a load or can I go through other states with the Load, say to just visit someone. say I have a load on my back that’s not ready to unload for a couple days and decided while close by a family’s place the next state over that’s not covered on my policy bbwouldn’t be returning the load until a couple of days later so I decide to hang out at a friends house. Would I be allowed to be there with that load ?

    • @joelnicholson8606
      @joelnicholson8606 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@majortransportservices Hey!
      So it all depends what radius you put when you bind that policy... typical amount is 500-unlimited depending on insurance carriers. So you would have to go based off that... and even then if you go like 50-100 miles over that radius and then get into an accident you would still most likely be covered. Hope that cleared it up for you! Definitely reach out to your Agent and ask what your current radius is And you'll be able to know from there.

    What you said about aging your MC (that is what some companies do to get better deals later on) - I am doing quotes with A rated insurance companies and many of them are not accepting vehicle below class 8 and even class 6, so it’s good to do that only with the truck that is not 20 years old. Also you CANT drive with a minimum AL you can only wait until you age your MC number enough to upgrade to 1M AL

  • @dusanjovanovic9155

    Sorry for many comments but everything affects your rate. CDL should be at least 2 years old, Radius of operation, clean MVR, not as many inspections, age of the Units, load that you are hauling, if you had any loss runs, IFTAs. That also affects your rating score. The real struggle is to find a driver with more than a year of experience in commercial driving. Progressive is good because their limitations are low, everyone with a bare minimum of experience can get insured.

    One thing you discussed was the younger ages 21, 35 that can affect a quote. What about the other end of the spectrum; at what higher age groups do insurance companies refuse to insure? I see some drivers that are well past the spring chicken age group.

    I’m getting my cdl in a few weeks and getting my own truck and everything I live in North Carolina how much would it cost me average

  • @Repavich
    @Repavich 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question time:
    If I start my Com Ins with my paid off vehicle with the 750k liability, and get my MC, my MC will go active and age as well as me being able to buy my truck and Trailer when appropriate and just update it to the proper amounts and coverage before I call brokers to book loads? Just got a quote through progressive and its 350/mo. Thats cheaper than the 900 dollar truck payment, 200 trailer payment, and 1700 dollar insurance payment for the month (21 days) that I am unable to use it to make money.... lol and if I wait 30 days, Ill be able to get accepted for more loads, right?
    Thanks for shedding light on this as I thought about this as being an option buy was unsure if it was "legal"
    Keep up the great content!

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s exactly right. Just make sure the scheduled autos page shows your truck and trailer as insured and at that point go ahead and drop the truck you were using before and you’ll be golden. 👍

    You should always go with a broker. Because they’re able to shop around for the best rate for you. All the major companies screw you over, and you get rate increases every year. Stick with a broker trust me!

    Hello Man!
    Thank you for your video!
    I just opened my DOT and MC number, got my BOC-3, and to do my authority active I need only get a insurance. I didn't even think that I can get it on my own little car. But weight of my car is around 4000 lbs - is it a problem for FMCSA?
    So... I can make my authority active if I just will get my auto liability insurance for 750.000$ coverage on my car without buying a truck? Do I need any other insurances to make my authority active? Or are there some other insurances you can recommend me for building my good record?
    Thank you Man!

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep that’s all you need is the minimum coverage and your MC will be active 👍
