There are a few problems with the 70 series. The low hanging leaf spring hangers get caught up in mud bogs. The little suspension flex you get out of it means wheels will lift all the time. So without diff locks front and rear you're going to be spinning out. Also the alternator is low down so it gets flooded in water crossings. Other than that tho they are great.
Agreed, also the rear wheel track is 100mm narrower than the front wheel track. Pure laziness. Would prefer front mount intercooler over top mount but thats a personal preference. The snorkel should also be a single piece instead of the heap that it comes with. For the money it’s way overpriced but is currently the toughest solid axle 4wd you can buy. I like how basic it is but it should be cheaper and fix the major design flaws. People keep buying them so Toyota don’t care.
Do you guys ever had an experience with Prado 90 series? I just bought my first 4x4, and I Bought it on well modified mudder. Did you guys have any suggestion what improvement needed for my 90 series Prado. Thanks, greeting from Indonesia.
@@anugrahcahya5964 the 90 is an absolutely wonderfull vehicle. I dont know of you have the kzj 90 or the vzj90 but both are great. If you have the kzj take care of that electronic diesel pump and change it out for a mechanical one if it ever gets faulty. Also put an intercooler on if there isnt one and improve the exhaust piping and make it less restrictive. If its a petrol you dont need to do anything maybe just have a look at the fuel pumps pressire should be around 55 psi. Do look at the ball joints as they are prone to failure. Put a snorkel on then if they dont have one. If big animals are not an issue then dont put a bullbar as it does increase the weight of the front end. All prados have rear lsd but sonetimes they get swapped out for open diffs, do check if yours has the lsd as those diffs do make a huge difference in handling especially over curvy mountain roads at speed. Greating from the other home of the land cruiser, Pakistan.
Our pit patrol 76 series Landcruiser's on our mine site have over 1 million on the original engine , they run 24/7 365 covering 300 to 400 km per 12hr shift.
I picked mine up second hand for $40.000 with 230,000 kilometres in early 2016, still holding it’s value, I wouldn’t lose a cent if I sold it now, it has the troopy engine, it won’t reach the half way mark until 500,000k. Excellent on fuel without the roof rack, as he said no frills, and I carry a good jump starter for when I have accidentally left the lights on.
In Tanzania too but you gotta admit we are not doing justice to them as they do in Ausie ....Tje guys they know what it means to own the LC ...thats why you'll seldomly hear that engine roar back here in Tanzania
Great video Ross! You've inspired me to sell my little lancer and upgrade to the big boys club of the 76ers :D ! Keep bringing out this awesome content. Peace from Rockingham WA!
To me the only vehicle that can match the land cruiser in car life is a range 4over defender , they can both go over a 1 million km and still keep pushing
@@RossReviewsau actually we both want reliability because of the tough terrain The only cars that last are toyotas But we more leaning towards of a 71 to 75 series they all the same though
It’s not retro styled, mate... it just never changed it’s style, because there was no need. The 70-Series is the beefiest and most capable 4x4 in the world, and it didn’t come to the US because our laws and people wouldn’t allow it. Glad you reviewed it, but you should do a whole video on how and why the US doesn’t have this truck... the reasons are insulting and horrifying.
There are 70 series Landcruiser's out there pushing 400 whp and 1100nm , but no one can make a clutch durable enough at the moment to be reliable. Seen low 13's on the quarter mile , 12's would be possible with bullet proof clutch or auto trans.

Best option is to get service companies in the US (Mining, heavy duty, Agriculture) to special order fleets of these. The only reason we get these great vehicles in Aus is due to industry demand. If the US had these trucks it would definitely make a dent in the truck market. But it's no luxury vehicle.
oh its not luxurious at all lol yes the mining and farming sectors LOVE the landcruiser eh.. every vehicle almost would be a 70 series when i worked underground
This truck is available in Canada but only for underground mining. . They’re fitted with a third brake system, locked in low range transfer case , front hubs permanently locked and only 1st and 2nd gear in the transmission. We can’t buy them from the company I work for. INCO ( now Vale ). Just as well because after having had the shit beaten out of them, there’s no much left of it.
we have them here in Australia used heavily in underground mining.. i used to work as a driller underground before youtube haha.. seems crazy they dont sell them tho in Canada would be a great vehicle, only thing i can think of is that they have very thin doors and basic interior might make it cold in winter.
Well we in georgia the country also can buy the 76 series also full land crusers and prados toyotas are mainly very popular here too bad i only can afford toyota aqua tho

Is very nice to see your review and having so much fun but I have to tell you and your audience. In Japan this model (2014/2015 only) is the 30th anniversary of the 70 series and it does not have the diesel V8 engine. It does come with a V6 4000cc that only runs on premium gasoline and unfortunately gives you about 4-5km per liter so it does sucks for fuel consumption but when it comes to speed I can’t actually exactly tell you about the specific timing to 100km/h but I’m positive that it won’t take more than 10 secs. I’ll double check on that and I’ll will edit my comment later ;) any ways they do last for ever and yes indeed there is a very strong reason about why this LC70’s are the most sold vehicles in the countries with the most rough off road scenarios. Best regards and thank you for your video
ah really that's a shame they didn't give you in japan at least a Diesel 6... the turbo diesel 8 this had was brilliant tho i have been told that the 6 is better in terms of reliability.. im sure each have there positives and negatives.. thanks for you comment :)
