I like your thinking with the cruiser. We run a fleet of single cabs and double cabs in my workplace. I love them for their simplicity but hate them for their agricultural drive. They are over priced for what they are but they are tough but not like they used to be when they ran the 6 cylinder engine. We had a 200 series landcruiser to tow our 22 van for several years. It towed it very well but it was always on it limits. We have recently changed out to a 2500 series American truck. What a difference, it's the next level up in comfort, power and economy. I look at all the Toyota builds with chopped and extended chassis and gvm upgrades etcand the chev looks very good buying in comparison. Yes the American truck is big but you can still take it places (we got out to south lefroy without any pinstripes). Love your setup but extra payload and room of a American truck takes your travel to the next level.
Thanks, mate. Appreciate you sharing your experience and perspective. The American trucks are definitely appealing when it comes to full-time towing. It would've really pushed our budget though to get it to this level.
I had an issue with the side mounts for our Max tracs, one of them cracked and broke on our trip to the Cape this year, fortunately I found a nice man in Wepa to weld it up for me.
Awesome build, very impressive, love it. You highlight how the 3M PPF wrap repels water and dirt very effectively. 3M have been in the headlines re their PFAS (aka forever chemicals) and related products causing high cancer rates and countless cases of environmental PFAS contaminating in AU and overseas, they have poor transparency record on this. PFAS is/was used in water repelling products, so wondering if they use PFAS in their PPF products, IDK, but would be worth finding out, my brief googling on it didn't find anything. Would be great if 3M confirmed PFAS or related chemicals are not in PPF products, so we could be sure use of PPF is not causing more PFAS contaminating and exposure to car occupants. All the best to you, thank you for sharing your wonderful adventures and insights.
Beautiful Cruiser guys. Impressive to approach it with a function over form attitude and still come out with such a cohesive and unique vehicle. Just a little bit jealous....... kidding......a LOT jealous!!!
those rivets would do my head in😉 a panel beater would make them disappear like magic, or, get some TLP & 76 badges made up to cover them. Talk to Chris at Desert Spec in Dalby for a vinyl floor kit, did it for my single cab, goes over carpet.
Great job 👍. From experience - chuck the mirrors straight over the LandCruiser badge and don't give it another thought. It's better than patching the holes. After a couple of weeks you won't even notice and you won't care what anyone one else thinks about it.

Nice rig but was thinking how expensive it was but just watched ADUs walk around of there GMSV 2500 HD which costs over $400,000. Makes the 76 almost look like a bargain..lol..

I appreciate its your home away from home and full time living on the road, but for some of us just way outside what we can afford. Keep enjoying your travels wherever they may lead you.
Love the set up are they front runner boxes just rearranging my set up and trying to work out the best type of storage box. Great videos keep up great content. Thanks
Cheers! Yeah, they're the front runner ones. We're thinking of changing them to the TRED ones soon though. They're a bit higher so will be able to fit more in and use the space better.
Great content on the build of your dream touring rig. Was great to catch up while we were over in the west. Hopefully will see you back on the east coast soon. Just wondering who done the PPF wrap on the car, as it looks fantastic.
I think a NPS 300 is a far better truck to set up for full time travel like some other tubers have. Don’t have to worry about weight and where you going to put things for roughly the same amount of $
We can definitely see their appeal. We wanted something more capable as a 4wd though and more practical for day-to-day needs. An NPS was never going to meet our requirements.
Steve, You need to get on NPS go for good drive. They are not good for touring. Hats off to people riding it while they doing the lap. It drives like dogsh*t and cant take alot of places due to size. It’s nightmare going into City. Driving 70 series which isnt great comfort car but 1000% better ride than NPS. Personally i would get chopped 300 over 70series but it’s another $100k on top.
Nah - if you want a real off roader OKA mine spec - would walk all over the Isuzu every day and with many spending 170 on the vehicle and same again on their van, not much more in cost .
Have you thought about painting the mirror blanking grommets to match the body colour? They’d essentially disappear then for next to no outlay. Can of paint match paint at super cheap and some matte clear and you’re in business.
Great overview! Very practical.......though surprised you didn't mention seat comfort, especially since you are driving full time. I would have thought you may have fitted Recaro after-market seats...... Thanks, Frank
@@TheLifestylePioneers I knew someone who was using an ‘Electronic Rust Protection System’ on the vehicle which from which I understand sends a negative charge through the body of the vehicle and the draw on the battery was apparently minimal. Greeting from SA. Love the build and has given me inspiration towards my own overlander. Out of curiosity when you say the build has cost you guys around $190K is that including the caravan or just what's shown?
Hi Simon or Liz what is your GCM of your fantastic 76 build and mods ,very informative of cost analysis on why you require reliable and fit for purpose mods to a 4x4
Thanks so much. Our GVM is 3900kg and our GCM is 7400kg. Keeping in mind how light the 76 is from factory (about 350kgs lighter than a 300 series) gives us over 1600kg of payload in the car.
Hey Guys another great video! With the shorter wheelbase (compared to the ranger) do you find that the caravan pushes the rear end of the car around any more when you hit a bump at speed, or is it comparable? We have a PM canvas wheel bag as well and love it, we got a length of electrical conduit and a few t's and corner fittings and made up an internal frame to 'perk' the bag up, we call it a "bin bag boob job"
Hey, Ben. It's not something I've noticed, or payed close attention to. Overall though, I'm stoked with how well the 76 tows. Great idea for the PM bag, cheers.
Just think you could have spent 30k less and got a 300 series which is better in every single way, from comfort, to power, economy, ability to tow, technology, offroad performance and reliability. And the last point is interesting because the jmax kits are pretty notorious for damaging diff bearings as the housings aren’t always perfectly true due to heat penetration. Then of course you have the whole wheel stud saga
Appreciate your perspective and opinion, but I think we'd have to agree to disagree. I just don't see a 300 that way. Completely different vehicle with different compromises. You could offer me one +$50k my way and I wouldn't even consider it. No doubt the 300 is more economical and comfortable with a lot more teach (which I see as a negative) but I'd love to see one go head-to-head with our 76 off road and beat it.
@@TheLifestylePioneers there is no compromises with the 300 vs a 76, especially for what you do (which btw is nothing challenging you could go everywhere you have been in a bog stock straight from the sales floor dual cab or wagon in any brand) but the biggest thing you get with a 300 that you can never get with a 70 no matter how much money you throw at it is internal space and comfort. There is a reason why the 200 and now the 300 were by far the most popular touring vehicle out there. And why they sell almost no 76’s at all.
