I HAD YEARS, PEOPLE.. YEARS! LOOKING FOR THIS SONG! OMG ... I THINK I'M GONNA CRY, I AM SO HAPPY I FINALLY FOUND IT!, I LISTENED TO IT ONLY ONE TIME IN MY LIFE AND IT'S BECAUSE MY BROTHER HAD A DIESEL U MUSIC.. BUT I ONLY LISTENED TO IT ONE TIME! I WAS A LITTLE GIRL OMG.. THIS MELODY HAS BEEN IN MY HEAD ALL MY LIFE.. BUT I NEVER KNEW WHAT WAS IT NAME OMG OMG IM SO HAPPY NOW.
Your comment is disturbing! I just spent my last 5 complete hours just to find the name of this music! And after I expressed my joyce for listening this song, I see that the first comment is yours, it's not usual to see that kind of comment! Happy for you and for me.
+Ana Esquivel I know that feeling all too well. Some times I dream shoegazey type tunes and they stick with me for *years*. The la la la's in this song touch me every time - when I first heard it I thought "where has this song been all my life?" and get teary eyed but feel it deep in my spirit as well. A lot of Shins does this to me as well as Queen, The Beatles, The Cardigans first album Emmerdale (check it out if you love The Shins like I do)...so so many. Glad to see you found your beloved song again and music touches you the way it does :3
I made that mechanical caterpillar! Wow, that was like 20 years ago in Portland. The outside body form was dryer tubing and spray foam sprayed with olive oil. The gears and whatnot were being cranked by a few guys behind it. I loved the creative freedom I had with this. I got into props work cause it was like arts and crafts meets puzzle solving. Using creative problem solving to make something fit into the scene. This one was the height of that.
@@GeorgiaGrowGuy my mate Tyler was hired to make it for the video and asked me to help, cause I’m crafty as a mofo. He’s more mechanical, so he made the moving parts
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And the best part is it's not the tiniest bit predictable. The Shings are definitely in the top 5 active bands as of 2007.
Christina Marie you short sentence captures the song perfect perfectly it's one of the songs that sticks with you the first time you hear it never goes away and remains one of your favorites of all time thanks for posting
I was in love with a girl from grade 9 when I first heard this. She since married and became a nurse. Im also very happily married with kids but its still fun to go way way back in the day and remeber how this song made me feel about somebody. Just for the pure sake of nostalgia.

My mom played this song so many times for me as a baby and it sounds so familiar its unreal. Its giving me memories & flashbacks to my childhood and I may or may not be crying happy tears.
I remember my dad playing this song in the car in about 2004, and it was an instant favorite. Can't believe how I still need to listen to it every time it crosses my mind; it just doesn't get old.
You're right it never gets old. The writers lyrics are always impressive and take you by surprise and I love the classical bent unfortunately I can tell by your dating the song that I am too old to remember the singer's name but Don was he good can't believe the only two albums out but they're awesome this song is just amazing always makes you feel so warm and good inside it's cool that you learned it from your dad

I remember this one channel on cable TV that would showcase new upcoming bands. I remember seeing The Shins on the list, hmmm, The Shins, catchy name, let me check them out. And it was this video, this beautiful song. The list was long, there were bands like The Battles, Silversun Pickups, Die Mannequin and something told me to check out The Shins. Now every time I hear this song it takes me back to that moment, that time in my life. A nice memory.
I appreciate that post because I could not think of the main Lyricist name. What a talent for speaking from the heart and the poetic terms of phrases he invented in a way that we don't usually hear. Hi, too, would love to meet -& than him as well. I think that they're all from NM. I just miss them playing in a small venue when I moved there from NJ. Suffice it to say missing a Shins concert in a small, intimate venue by a mere few weeks should have alerted me that things may not bode well for me in NM.
The high octaved and strong delivery the second time of, “Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you Nothing holds a Roman candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside” along with the beautiful overlapping backing vocals, makes my soul leap with joy, and strikes a chord that not many songs can do. God Mercer is a pure saint. Saint MERCER
The first time I ever saw The Shins live was also the first time I heard their music. Just stumbling into a random festival tent on a sunny day in 2004. What a set they pulled off. Needless to say, I stayed for the whole thing. Those two first albums are indie perfection. :)
i had this song on my mp3 player when i was like 6 years old. it was my favorite song. this is the first time ive been able to find it in about 13 years, i honestly didnt think i would ever find it again. also wow 6 year old me had interesting taste for a child 😂
I grew up with the Beatles, and Beach Boys; these clever boys have taken that legacy and built on it. Borrowing from them of course but adding their special approach. But who hasn't? Even Mozart was "borrowing" from Bach(JC and JS) - fact.
I woke up this morning with line "Mercy's eyes are blue" over and over in my head. Took the kids to the splash pad. This little girl looks up at me as her dad says "time to go Mercy"... Mercy's eyes were actually brown : )
I found this song by waking up to it playing next to my bed. Some radio of music related to one of my playlists started playing while I was asleep. Really appreciate that moment
Known about The Shins for a long time now but just barely dove into chutes too narrow for the first time and jesus christ have I been missing out. This one gets stuck in my head the most “nothing holds a roman candle to.....”
~ Damn. This song is so fierce. I love it. The lyrics and words are so deep and lovely. If only all the music of this generation had that same type of theme. Damn, this world would be a better place already.

I don't agree that they are better than the Beatles, but I do understand where you're coming from. They have some fantastic vocal harmonies, as in this song, and they have a knack for really sublime melodies. I love 'em!
Rick Astley I always say Wincing and Port Of Morrow are my favorites but I find myself listening to Chutes the most. It’s really hard to choose, though.

Fr!!!❤ it's overwhelmingly "hope" that I feel everytime that "mercy's eyes are blue" starts
If the last minute and a half of this song were an island, I'd want to live there forever.

i think im gonna try and hold on to mine
The artistry in this song is unparalleled
Lyrics;
After all these implements and texts designed by intellects
So vexed to find evidently there's still so much that hides
And though the saints dub us divine in ancient fading lines
Their sentiment is just as hard to pluck from the vine
I'll try hard not to pretend
Allow myself no mock defense
As I step into the night
Since I don't have the time nor mind to figure out the nursery rhymes
That helped us out in making sense of our lives
The cruel, uneventful state of apathy releases me
I value them but I won't cry every time one's wiped out
I'll try hard not to give in
Batten down to fare the wind
Rid my head of this pretense
Allow myself no mock defense
As I step into the night
But Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you
Nothing holds a Roman candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside
There's no measuring of it as nothing else is love
I'll try hard not to give in
Batten down to fare the wind
Rid my head of this pretense
Allow myself no mock defense
As I step into the night
Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you
Nothing really holds a candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside you
✨

You have made me feel very old. Also, I love this story.
I bet money you're lying
You'll pretend when given the facts that you thought it was some other song
I was a teenager when I first heard this (the song was relatively new at the time). It feels like it was just yesterday. I am old 🤯.
The part with the strings during the break in the middle of the song gives me chills and goosebumps...I love it.
I heard this song today and got goose bumps
Anne Marie Ruljancich did all the strings and arrangement. She earned her $60!
Of all the beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, I continue to come back to Saint Simon. Nothing else compares.
The Conservateur nothing else is love...
