Yes it was amazing. It really felt like you were on the water. We got this game and our n64 for Christmas’96 (i think?). This game forever makes me think of Christmastime.
I got this and Mario 64 on Christmas Day when I was a child and almost threw up from motion sickness or something. Took me a while for the ol eyes to warm up to these graphics.
4:21 “and i got first place as well” *comes in second* 😂 for real though i love this game, and i have been watching every single n64 video you drop. i’m super stoked for you to do this challenge and love your analysis videos when you finish a game. 💪
@@SarahConnor618 Those are points, I assume 4 points = 2nd place since he got 4 points for 4:21 as well. He did in fact get 1st on the final level and he got 7 points for that.
Same, I may end up liking it even more than the Road to 1000 SE levels series, which is my other favorite content on this channel. He's good at making scripted content as well as streaming.
This game was the beginning of me finding the secrets in video games. I remember finding out how to change the jetski to a dolphin and finally getting it and calling my friends over to see. It was the biggest achievement at the time since the only way for people to see it was to have people come over and see it since there was no real "online" yet that you could see this. Thanks for the nostalgia, keep up the great work.
This game brings back such great memories. It was one of the first N64 games my brothers and I got for Christmas. My parents were divorced, and so when our dad picked us up for the weekends, he had a super small house and there wasn’t a whole lot to do and so my brothers and I would just play the living crap out of Waverace and Goldeneye. Good times.
When N64 came out my sisters and I got one for Christmas along with Mario 64 and Wave Race 64. Both those games hold a special place to me because of it. Wave Race though just incapsulates everything about the feel of the mid-90s. I'm nostalgic for a lot of things but this game just hits harder than anything else for whatever reason. The instant I turn it on and hear that music and see the visuals I'm instantly taken back to being 8 years old, sitting in the living room with my family and just loving life.
I really wish Nintendo would put out a new Wave Race game and do it 100% in the style of Wave Race 64. I've been wishing this for about 10+ years now, so doubt it will ever happen.
Honestly been watching you a lot recently. You are so likable, and your dry, the office-esq humor, has me rolllling and laughing like a little kid. You’re awesome dude. Keep it up!! 👍🏼
Fun facts: Wave Race 64 unlike many games on the 64 is the first in the series and a sequel was made on the GameCube called Wave Race: Blue Storm. Wave Race is set in the same universe as 1080 degrees Snowboarding and 1080 degrees Avalanche. The character names are: David Mariner, Ayumi Stewart, Ryota Hayami, and Miles Jeter There's a long standing fan theory that this is the past of F-Zero, with the name connections of Port Blue -> Big Blue, A. Stewart -> Dr. Stewart.
That's so cool!! I immediately thought of F-Zero when they said Port Blue. 😂 What a fun theory. And I had no idea it was in the same universe as 1080! Loved that game growing up.
If you're going to post 'fun facts', at least make sure they're accurate, FFS. Wave Race 64 is a sequel. (Although the names of the characters isn't exactly a 'fun fact', is it. Unless your definition of 'fun fact' is 'basic information').
I don't really have an interest in N64 and I did not watch this series in the beginning, but I am loving it after I watched them. The random assortment of good and terrible games keep it very interesting and Thab scripted content works surprisingly well
I used to love playing this game as a kid. You can ride the jet ski backwards from what I remember, and can also ride the Dolphin in stunt mode by doing a specific sequence of events.
I totally understand the throwback to the past! I'm 34 and my parents gave me the first playstation when I was 9. Now the sounds and music of those games bring me such nostalgic joy
Nostalgia hit me hard with this game. I remember when I was 5-6, this is one of the games I played on the n64. My brothers had the ps2 while I had the n64 and the SNES. Gotta say can't complain especially how many classics were on both consoles
Loved the ice level as a kid since my friends and I would have an awesome time charging at the ice from opposite sides trying to slide into each other at top speed.
I love this game! Did you know that Wave Race is a Trilogy? I only realized that recently… there was N64 and Bluestorm on GameCube, but the first one was Wave Race on the gameboy! I covered the entire trilogy, was a really fun and challenging episode! It’s honestly a tough trilogy to beat!

This game gave me major blisters from playing stunt mode when I was a kid. You do a barrel roll by rolling the joystick all the way around when in the air, so I just remember doing that to the point where my thumb was basically bleeding.
So just so you know those wooden poles are supposed to be where a dock used to be. Often times a docks boards will rot away before the piles that hold them do and you end up with wooden poles sticking up in the water. They're lake hazards that actually exist. It's kind of a neat detail that will stick out to anyone that's spent some time around lakes. Man I remember when this game out and it just blew everyone's minds. Like water physics? What's that!?
I dunno what it is about this game...but it does have I guess very specific audio and visual traits and just hits you hard with the nostalgias more then most other games. I had the exact same feeling when getting it again after having not played it since new as well. The intro, the announcers, the WAVES. Yeah, great game that's still unique.
Select Stunt Mode and enter Dolphin Park. @@Pahricida I love that the steps to riding a secret character (and even the idea you can ride a dolphin caused many school recess arguments alone) are steps that would make your classmates doubt you even further, since they're so convoluted. I think this was and still is a unique game. There aren't a lot of water racing games that feel fun in my experience. But the water physics were so good it almost made this game a sandbox, where I'd enjoy just driving around jumping off waves, crashing into things, and trying to do random tricks and jumps. I think you could even do dolphin type jumps where you dive underwater and pop back up. Then this game was generally pretty realistic (compared to Mario Kart) with just the right hints of gaming flavor imo.
You can do a barrel roll by flicking left then holding right or vice versa. You could also rotate the stick clockwise or counter clockwise and hold up or down to do tricks while driving. If you did one of the combos right you would jump on the front and do a backflip.
