This was such a nostalgic one for me. The amount of hours I spent playing multiplayer was probably on par with Goldeneye. And it also reminded me that I've never beat this game -- I got stuck on that highway level and gave up. Maybe I'll give it another go now, 25 years later.
I only ever played this games multi-player. I played more of the second attack then this one, but it reminds me of birthday parties back in elementary school.
It was really hard as a kid as well, but once you grow up it actually starts becoming mostly a fair affair. Just go with normal mode and hold on to the heart item and you should be able to reach the end.
The commercial: "Bomberman! bomberman! mass destruction across the land... makes a bomb, any size! And he's yours to customize, look out! Your very own bomberman! I remember seeing the commercials for this game when I was in the 6th grade, love it
One of my favorite little details about this game is if you go back to the early levels after getting the true ending, serius gives pissed off dialogue instead of tutorials.
@@Thabeast721 There is a hidden challenge, if youre interested, you must collect all 120 golden cards on hard mode in under 3 hours to unlock a golden armor set for multiplayer mode.

I wish they still gave great rewards like this for fully completing a game.
If you highlight over Battle mode and press start really fast you'd be able to get the 4 extra levels too. But they would go away after you turned the system off.

Having grown up playing 2D games on the NES, SNES and Genesis, the transition to 3D was incredible. I don't know if I have words to adequately describe it to people who didn't live through it, but seeing previously flat games like Mario and Bomberman make that jump was probably the highlight of the whole thing. There was this feeling of liberation, of being able to move freely for the first time ever. The bright, sunny worlds and carefree soundtracks made you feel like you were someplace wonderful, even though you were fighting and solving puzzles. Hearing that music, even just in the background, put a lump in my throat. These games will always have a special place in my heart, because that transition was something that could only happen once, and I feel privileged now to have been the exact right age to be floored by it as a kid.
This game was a big chunk of my childhood. Love this game, the music the levels and gameplay and puzzles are amazing. Nostalgia is strong with this one too
Bomberman, Mario, Starfox, and Mario Kart were my 4 main N64 games growing up. I never got all the gold cards, so today I learned you get betrayed for doing 100%

It had a huge effect on my taste in video games, stories and art. idk what it is about young kids and super sentai but we just ate that stuff up, This, power rangers, sailor moon, its was all just so cool and exciting. I like the voice clips in this and it definitely has that classic Hudson Soft look, the very bright and cheery art with lazers and robots. very intune to the sensibilities of a child. I think all the Bomberman games were good in the n64 days, this was really his peak as unfortunately the next gen bomberman games werent as good if i remember them correctly. this series has been such an adventure! incredible progress and skills. i almost never use twitch, but this series has me poppin' into your channel now and again to see what's coming in the future. thanks for the fun, high-quality videos!
I am so happy that you did 100% on this. The normal game uses none of the gameplay features you need for the real ending. So i am glad to see you also learned those techniques because for me they are one of the best part of the game.
As a kid I was rather jealous of one of my friends for owning this game. There's a certain satisfaction watching you play and narrate decades later that I just can't describe with words. Plus, your voice grew on me by the end lol
This is a pretty great game with unique gameplay. Very different than other Bomberman titles, but still a Bomberman game. Good puzzles, good action boss fights.
So glad they put this game on Wii U virtual console. This is a game I always forget about when I think of the N64, but it took up a fairly large chunk of my time spent with the system
This game is the "obscure N64 Bomberman game" for me. I grew up with HERO, which I loved. Had no clue it was a sequel, but when I finished it, it definitely felt like there was something I was missing. Really fun platformer that I wish got a sequel on the Switch, not a remake/re-release. A full-on brand-new Bomberman platformer. The boss fights were fun as a kid, haven't been able to play it in a while
It took me a forever to beat this game as a kid and using gamefaqs to figure out all the secret content. It was def a challenge but I loved it. I wish games today made me feel how these oldies did man. Thanks for the nostalgia again!
@@legendcrump2375 We never did figure out how to get every multiplayer outfit fully unlocked. I looked up how to get them all years later and I have no idea how they expected most people to figure most of this stuff out!

I barely own more than a dozen n64 games but somehow with this and the previous one you managed to get two of them in a row. I never got the true ending as a kid after getting pretty frustrated with the gold cards in the boss fights. It was a 2nd hand cart, so I remember also being frustrated with crooked cart issues. I'm upset now to learn it was an entire extra world I missed out on lol, thanks for showing it off.
Cards on that blue dragon is literally all I remembered from this game. The difficulty gap from the rest of the game and getting cards from bosses huge.
This was one of my favorite childhood games. I remember grinding out all the gold cards for the multiplayer extras and then being shocked at unlocking the secret level. Those experiences back then felt so good. Never could get all 5 cards out of serius though. I always thought serius was a jerk, but I realize now that his dialogue changes when you unlock his level but are in the other levels. I played they game too much back then, especially the multiplayer.
I caught up with the youtube video series and i have been following your journey on twitch since Superman 64. This is a great series and congrats on reaching 100 games already!
I loved this game. Didn't get to play it until I read 13 or 14 but I had a ton of fun with it. Story mode was great, but I spent endless hours with my cousin on multiplayer. That music was the best.

However, even thougn i knew about these gold cards, i couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get them all, just some of them (i didn't have internet access at the time, also i wasnt bothered by this anyway). This means that i had absolutely no idea about the secret final level and, most baffling, Sirius betrayal until today. This is so amazing, it's like unveiling a true mistery in a game, something that rarely ever occurs these days.

I haven't played this game in years, but still remember how to get through every single level. The weirdest part is, I have no recollection of that fish boss fight at all. None. But everything else is still intact. So weird..
I always considered Bomberman 64 to be "that game you play when you can't get your hands on Super Mario 64," and for my brother and I specifically "that game we played *because* we didn't have Mario 64 *and* Blockbuster was out of copies to rent." Years later I would voluntarily buy a used copy because of the nostalgia of renting it so much, and only ever reaching the Rainbow Palace world once.
i put so many hours into this game as a kid but as frustrating as it is to say i just couldn't beat the volcano type boss, i'm thinking it's time for a revisit
The fire level robot boss you can actually get a super bomb inside him to deal two hearts of damage if you stun him with a big bomb on his head, causing the chest door to open! Also the fortress mecha boss thing it puts in the center doesn't just make it dark, it actually does slow your movement down
