  • On Sunday 10 April 2016 the Royal College of Music welcomed back Sir András Schiff, one of the world's most celebrated pianists, for a masterclass with talented RCM musicians.
In this clip, Schiff works with Alexander Ullman on Haydn's Andante and Variations in F minor.
The Royal College of Music offers a regular series of public masterclasses, most of which are free. To find out what's on visit the RCM website www.rcm.ac.uk/e...

I simply cannot believe that we can watch something of this quality completely for free on TH-cam - what a wonderful time we are living through! Thank you RCM for putting it up.
Alex U was remarkably well able to instantly adjust his well-honed interpretation to the maestro's suggestions, which must be so hard to do (particularly when playing from memory).
Any opportunity to journey into the depths of Andras Schiff's musicality and understanding like this is an extraordinary delight and privilege.

47:30 "This is desperate now". You can really hear it. He plays it so beautifully. That is my favourite part of the whole piece. It's so emotional.

Mr. Schiff has so much credibility and persuasion because he can illustrate all his points by playing them.

In this fabulous master class, which is one of several accessible on TH-cam, the celebrated pianist András Schiff superbly demonstrates not only his pedagogical abilities, but also his boundless knowledge of the classical repertoire.

As Avenarius said, an extraordinary delight and privilege. One learns so very much from Sir András and the students that we come away with our heads filled with new thoughts and ideas. Thank you.

Please see the appeal attached to later RCM videos. Many RCM musicians are suffering hardship from the effects of Covid-19 as their sources of income from teaching, performances and gigs have virtually dried up. The RCM has launched a Covid-19 Hardship Fund and would welcome any contributions to support those students facing financial hardship in these difficult times.
